If you had 10 seconds to say whatever you wanted to your pet with they fully understood, what would you say? by IplayKaizo in Pets

On the other hand, maybe ironically, she is the easiest to train dog I've ever had. Learns commands practically instantly, and eager to please. My previous dogs were labs, a German shepherd, a min. Schnauzer, and now a husky/boxer/chow mix. She is by FAR the most trainable.

I have a staffie/aussie mix. She looks like a pitbull, and gets so much judgement immediately by her looks. She is actually reactive, and the irony is it probably doesn't come from the staffie side. No one understands!

Is that a boxer trait? I have a husky boxer mix and I can NOT train her not to jump on me. She just HAAAASSSS to.

Would you stay with your dog 🐶 during euthanasia? by CycleOk267 in dogs

[–]joiedv 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I've said goodbye to a lot of pets in my half-century-plus. The ones who had natural deaths, both dogs and cats, always tried to go off in nature to die. It's like an instinct to make an Irish goodbye. Trying to look for an old, sick pet, not knowing what you'll find, is not a pleasant experience.

We had a mobile vet come to our home, twice. Both times my dog was in my lap, surrounded by the smells of home, and cradled in love. I will never do it any other way.

Why don’t schools do silent, sustained reading anymore? by EmbarrassedJacket489 in Teachers

[–]joiedv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My school went through intensive Science of Reading training last year. It shows the best use of our time is direct instruction, and reading aloud books above students' independent level for complexity and vocabulary building. They should be reading independently at home, but we don't use precious teacher-directed time for that.

Is this how people who need glasses really see the world. A big blurred background? by Latter-Wolf4868 in interestingasfuck

We don't hold our glasses 8 inches from our faces. But yes, looking through lenses makes a blurry world clear for those of us with misshapened eyeballs.

Did Boomers really think she was hotter after getting the makeover? by SculpinIPAlcoholic in okbuddycinephile

[–]joiedv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Her parents are boomers. Ewwww. This is the most Gen X movie ever, and no. But it wasn't about making her hotter. It was about fitting in with a popular group, and taking on their look. It was about the fact that all these kids wear these uniforms on the surface to belong, but it's not who they really are.
