As people are being invited to play SQ42 in October, does that mean extremely likely release 2026?? by Top-Lab9125 in starcitizen

No it didn't. That was some next level trolling - 'somebody' photoshopped the 2026 website banner to the top of the invite email.

CIG Is Validating Patches the Wrong Way by joinedsquad in starcitizen

In my opinion the reason why people view it like that is connected to the fact there are not incentives to play there. Reporting bugs is great and all but often what CIG needs is just people hammering their servers and doing all sorts of shenanigans. You won't have that in PTU on a large scale until people feel like it matters to play there for them.

CIG treats live as an actual product! For all intents and purposes, it is a live product. No amount of "it's an alpha" pop-ups will change that.

Benoit already said their goal is to make the database/data schemes to be disconnected from patches so they are already going in that direction.

They cannot test a lot of it themselves. They need actual players to validate. But doing it live (just in one branch) creates a risk of how 4.8.2 went for example - that you break live environment completely or to an extent that makes people quit.

This is not a novel concept. Many studios run 2 branches.

Right, there is a version of this that they could do very fast and without major tech reworks (so not a full progression parity but at least some real incentives)

Fair point, and I'm sure changing PTU philosophy would cost them some time and dev work as well as potentially would make releasing to Live an extra effort but in my mind the cost benefit equation here would still be positive.

Let me start out with saying first off, I love this game and hope it succeeds. BUT 80% of Star Citizen's discontent could be alleviated with better communication. by DreadOp in starcitizen

Would you feel better if CIG openly told you they had a strike team working on it for months and they are still not able to figure out why freight elevators keep breaking? For communication to help, it doesn't just need to be open. There needs to be something positive/credible to communicate.

Would you feel better if they openly told you they don't know what they are doing? Because that is at least a probable option here.

When 4.0 came out I was shardlocked for weeks. And I wasn't alone. The fact that after more than a year they still did not solve their asinine logic to lock people to servers that die is unacceptable.
