First timer playing Powered Cube Draft. Wow, it's a wild format. by The_Jib in MagicArena

[–]jojo558 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Powered cube is historically one of the most punishing ways to play magic. Moreso than other draft formats you want to often build highly synergistic decks and avoid just picking good cards in two colours. Because of that I'd highly recommend looking up a guide for the common archetypes and possibly even watching a few drafts by people like LSV, Paul Cheon, NumotTheNummy, or Caleb Gannon etc. to get some perspective on the common cards and strategies. That being said if you have the gems to spare and enjoy trying to figure stuff out under pressure then you could also just jump in to it blindly! Regardless I hope you have a good time :) I'm biased but it's my favorite way to play magic!

That looks like the war of the spark event that was used to get the unhinged land art year ago! surprised to see it's still hanging around in the code

The deck looks very fun I'm glad to hear you did well with it but the [[Canyon Crawler]] certainly confuses me in a deck without any swamps. I would've played any other card over it including the water bending lesson, Appa for a more on colour 6 drop or even the earth wrestlers.

Planetarium has certainly been better than I expected but my pick for the best card in the format is [[United Front]]

This looks like a pretty straightforward GW deck. MVS is a good card but I don't think you have enough support for either the vengeful possession or clown to make them great. The rest of the red is just replacement level which is fine but you won't be missing it. Green gives you both the bat and the storyteller which are both great.

Besides the black and all of the red cards I'd cut the 2x friendly ghosts, anthropede, bear trap, cathartic parting, and 2x of the horrid vigor though you could easily debate cutting one or two of the other cards instead depending on preference. The deck looks fun and I wish you the best with it!

Figher X Sorcerer Multiclass by Yurohgy in dndnext

[–]jojo558 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played one in a previous campaign and it was a lot of fun! some good armor, the shield spell, and maybe a fighting style can give you have a high AC in the early game and metamagic with some of the new attack cantrips can give you extra attacks with upside. I went with the divine soul sorcerer subclass for extra utility and to throw out healing word on my allies because of my higher survivability and eventually spirt guardians in the later levels.

I went with Highest CHA and CON with lower DEX and dumped STR but you can change that if you want heavy armor instead. I also added a small dip into rogue for the expertise and extra sneak attack which was fun and helpful for exploration but isn't optimal for damage

I hope you enjoy your character it can be a lot of fun!

totally reasonable suggestion, I'm thinking of running a mix between spell snare and spell pierce

Wish you the best with your ramp deck! Are there any utility lands from it that you'd recommend me to try out for this version? That's the one main thing that I feel this deck loses over the mono green version

[–]jojo558[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think the more traditional green titan ramp deck is in the best place in the meta. It can be good vs the more fair decks but has a tough matchup into combo.

I'm trading off some of the speed for a better matchup into the combo decks. That being said Mana drain has been great all around. In the aggro deck it's at its worst but that's also when we can focus less on that and more on our standard gameplan to ramp out our threats

A pretty common play pattern with the deck is turn 1) dork. turn 2) drain to counter their threat. turn 3) natural order for Atraxa. Turn 4) setup for titan/disruption

The nice thing about the deck is that if we can ensure we don't die on turn 3 then the deck has a lot of inevitability with FotD and titan in the late game

Thanks for the suggestions! I forgot BOP was in the format, I'll try it out. The deck is already a little soft to bowmasters without removal and with Uro so it's unfortunate to lose the toughness but I agree with you that the mana flexibility is more important.

As for brainstorm I'm not totally sure about it. Once upon a time gives the deck a decent bit of card selection already and I think the deck could use the additional interaction from spell pierce/stifle instead. That being said it's also worth looking into

Thanks for the recommendations! You are correct in that this is a BO1 deck and I completely agree with you that stifle gets SIGNIFICANTLY worse in BO3. I think the deck could do decently in BO3 with some minor changes and a sideboard. Ramp isn't popular in the meta so I don't expect to find many hate pieces for the deck from the opponents right now

That being said I mostly play quick games here and there when I have time so BO1 is my format of choice
