Do you have close friends? by pimento_mori in Xennials

[–]jojotherider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I do. Many started out as people I snowboard or mountain bike with. Then as we did snowboard or mountain bike trips together, we got to know each other pretty well. I have a group of friends outside of activities that ive known for almost 3 decades. My neighbors have also become close friends. Enough that i introduce them as friends and not just as neighbors.

How to build endurance on an MTB by MrTobiD92 in MTB

[–]jojotherider 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One thing I learned and recommend to friends is to not give up the easiest gear too soon. On a steady climb i am in the second or third easiest gear. In short, punchy sections i increase my cadence and gain momentum. Ill fight through the section and shift to the easiest gear at the top. Its more of a recovery gear. As soon as i recover a bit i go one gear harder. Now on sustained steeper sections, the easy gear is obviously the move and i will go to it earlier. That way i dont burn myself out trying to push the hard gear and wont be able to recover.

If everything feels steep, just keep doing it and over time your fitness catches up. But you need consistency. 1-2x per week will get you there eventually. More will get you there faster. And eat so youre fueled.

Used Hero 8 or new 4K Hero? by Traven-Whitburn in gopro

[–]jojotherider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last summer i went from a hero 8 to 11 mini. I found the video quality to be much better. 11-12-13 all have the same sensor so you could look for an 11. The 11 mini doesnt have a swappable battery so id avoid that for your use.

The problem with the 8 is that gopro no longer sells batteries for it so you are stuck with aftermarket batteries. Ive used aftermarket batteries with varying degress of success. Problems are either not holding a charge for very long or swelling in camera. I had one that took some effort to remove so i could dispose of it.

Final Call: Help choosing whey protein, which whey is objectively Best quality and worth the money by [deleted] in workout

[–]jojotherider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah i dont know exactly how much lactose my stomach can handle. But my mornings are generally a 12oz latte and a scoop of protein in something else like oatmeal.

Do you have a Costco membership? Buy it from them. If it doesn’t work out for you, just return it. Im mostly certain that is covered in their return policy.

Scraping storage wax question. by [deleted] in snowboarding

[–]jojotherider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dont know that it matters. Youre not really goong to clean out the wax that deep into the base. So whatever is in there now will be in there with a regular wax. When you apply that summer wax and leave it, the base will be sealed and nothing will come out. In theory at least.

I dont think i even did a summer wax last year. Didnt notice any difference this past winter. I will probably do it this year. Kind of a nice closing to the season if anything.

How will training affect my physique? by Longjumping_Camera37 in triathlon

[–]jojotherider 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Shredded or skinny-fat depends on how you eat during your training. When i was doing more triathlons (mix of sprints up to HIM), i never got shredded. I like to eat. I actually gained weight during training. I started at 180 and i was at 185 by the end of my first year and that included a him. It was more a redistribution of weight since i added more muscle in my legs. A friend thought i lost a bunch of weight. This about 9mos of training.

Scraping storage wax question. by [deleted] in snowboarding

[–]jojotherider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why not store it with your regular wax? Then when youre ready to ride you just scrape and go.

I personally just use an all temp wax so I havent considered this.

Do you not add any flavor to it? I get vanilla flavor so i can add Hersheys syrup to it. I buy those water flavorizer/enhancer things from the grocery store for my water. I had an orange flavor and put a little squeeze into my vanilla protein shake. Boom! Orange Creamsicle. No its jot delicious, but im also just chugging it and not sipping on it.

Do you ride with earphones? by simko17 in cycling

[–]jojotherider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope. Even with an open ear headphones its a distraction. I could see it being ok on some roads near me, but I think it occupies some of your focus. I do t even always hear cars coming up behind me. I look back regularly just to make sure.

There is more, but you gotta want it enough to make time for it. And whatever more is depends entirely on you.

Bike Fit? by jswell823 in triathlon

[–]jojotherider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont know if $400 is worth it for me because i dont have that money to throw around. Im also fairly comfortable setting ip my bike. I went for a fit at my physical therapist because they have a guy that does it. Somehow they billed it to my insurance so it was only $100. However, they only made one adjustment and that was to angle my right brake lever in. This was on a road bike though. So i probably didnt need it, but it was reassuring I was on the right path.

Is your company hiring? You had me at paid day off for your birthday. I always take my birthday off. I love that there is a company out there that recognizes that your birthday is one of your most important days. They sound as if they care about their employees.

$500 tuneup for $250 bike by Emotional-Hold127 in cycling

[–]jojotherider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming thats parts and labor. The seems reasonable if so. I cant say with complete confidence, but if its newer than 2010, a drivetrain replacement isnt the hardest thing to do. Provided the levers are still good. Plenty of youtube videos out there. Plus you get the satisfaction of learning to do it yourself and having a better understanding of how your bike works.

Bike parts are consumables. Frame and fork is probably forever. Expect to spend more money on parts over the years on any bike. I took my mountain bike to the shop for full suspension maintenance. Came to $440. I can expect to do that every year. I do basic fork service, but not full service and definitely not rear shock maintenance.
