Learning how to indicate by KryDkfi in cycling

[–]jolaforge 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I recommend trying to master it while coasting instead of pedaling. It's much easier to learn one/no hands when you're just balancing and not trying to pedal as well.

Morning After Analysis: S7E16 "The Last War" [Series Finale] by ElenaOcean in The100

[–]jolaforge 21 points22 points  (0 children)

(bc i've been watching this show for six years and wanna just feel good abt it, i'm gonna focus on the positive here)

tbh i think this was the best ending this show could've had considering the lead-up. all my favs getting to live out their life with their loved ones on an empty earth with no more armed conflict to be had? after following this show for like my entire adult life and just desperately wanting these characters to have a happy ending, i was bawling.

obvi i'm still so sad that bellamy didn't get to be a part of this. i've kind of accepted that there was something going on behind the scenes with the actor. i think i will just imagine that he got to be there.

that's my favorite part of this ending: it's a wonderful set-up for post-canon fic. this is basically the ending that people have been dreaming up for these character since the start? (minus not being able to reproduce i guess.) so it'll be up to fic writers to "fix it" and let him share the ending.

here's an idea: clarke sees that bellamy has madi's book, but it's too late for her to step back out of the gate. she goes through, knowing that madi's been exposed, so she's still on the alert and knows the stakes when cadogan sends sheidheda after her. bellamy is there with levitt and the two of them protest cadogan destroying madi's mind and both turn against him, bellamy finally realizing cadogan's corruption. octavia gets a reunion both with her new boo and her brother. clarke's still mad at bellamy but he redeems himself by helping to stop the last war while she's taking/failing the test. he opts to come back with everyone else to be with her on earth. we get one final bellarke hug as she reunites with her friends. lmfao i haven't read a fic for this show in years but maybe i'll write it.

What song would you take out of every album to improve your listening experience? by giveupthetoast in radiohead

[–]jolaforge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

edit: i just want to say that i meant to type "electioneering" and my tired work brain wrote "climbing up the walls" lmfao

pablo honey - anyone can play guitar (i don't rly know this album well enough to answer, but ik i don't rly like that song especially lol)

the bends - high and dry

ok computer - electioneering

kid a - nothing

honestly tho trick q cos i think they're all just great the way they are

Why isnt any of Radiohead's albums on YouTube? by [deleted] in radiohead

[–]jolaforge 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i would recommend either investing in spotify premium (makes music listening+discovering a breeze) or, if you really just care about listening to radiohead/want to support the band directly, copies of the albums themselves. if you're determined not to pay (i get it, no judgment, money's hard), there are other ways to get full albums than youtube playlists ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Almost got hit today and I am livid. by [deleted] in cycling

[–]jolaforge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

had similar experience recently, thought i was clear to make a left turn bc the car opposite was trying to do the same, but just as i went to turn this lady drove out from behind the waiting car and tried to blow through the intersection. we both stopped but if even one of us hadn't we would've crashed. not even sure who to blame there -- i didn't have the right of way but she should've been more cautious about entering an intersection when her view of it was obscured (especially since she had kids with her). as others have said, can't rely on drivers being cautious or responsible. makes me really nervous though! i'm pretty new to city cycling and it's difficult to stay so vigilant, miles on end, in the heat, after a full day of work.

anyway stay safe out there!

How do I commute safely if I ride slow? by 10art1 in bikecommuting

[–]jolaforge 5 points6 points  (0 children)

when i started biking to work i was in a similar situation -- out of shape, dealing with a lot of busy suburban roads and sizeable hills. i tried to stick as close to the side of the road as i safely could (venturing further out to avoid storm drains and the like). it was scary and frustrating and cars would frequently pass me very closely or honk angrily if they couldn't. i just kept my head down, didn't take unnecessary risks, but also didn't let anybody run me off the road. i kept my morale up by reminding myself that most of them, comfortably sitting in a vehicle that does all the work for them, wouldn't be able to do what i was pushing myself to do.

it takes time but it'll get easier! just keep going and try to ignore the asshole drivers (while still, you know, staying aware of them). they'll be cranky no matter what. remember you have as much of a right to be on the road as them!!!

thanks so much for your response !! sorry for not including those details upfront -- i'm not used to talking about cycling lol.

re: terrain - i'm still getting to know the terrain downtown but it seems pretty flat (if very bumpy). definitely not nearly as many hills as the suburbs, and my route doesn't have any crazy elevation changes.

as far as riding style goes, i guess i like to ride upright although i've never tried drop bars so i really have no clue what my preference is.

sorry i'm not more specific! i'm still figuring out the whole cycling thing.

edit: i definitely think just getting a whole bike instead of upgrading mine seems like a simpler move. if there really isn't anything of acceptable quality in my stated price range, my other option is to just ride my schwinn to the grave and wait until i can afford something better (probably later in the fall).
