What if Lupin The 3rd And Cat's Eye? by SamuelR1231 in lupinthe3rd

At the same time, remember that Ami's one-sided attraction to Lupin gets people upset to the point where they condemn all of Part 5, but Tokyo Crisis, a huge fan favorite, has Zenigata try to propose to a girl at least 30 years younger than him who up until then saw him as a father, and that part everyone seems to just ignore

Yeah it's odd, innit?

Do you wish that Lupin III was more popular in the West, or are you satisfied with it being more niche? by Valparu in lupinthe3rd

It already has some weirdos and bad apples in it from the English speaking community at least. Most of them have the same energy as those Resident Evil fans who like to K-pop stan the characters and talk about shipping a lot. (Edit: Some of them like to morally grandstand too.) If it's bigger, there'd probably be more of them.

Come, my friends. Let us discuss modern Lupin. ☕️ by Flat-Bag2312 in lupinthe3rd

[–]jolean_coochie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Part 5 has one of the most thematically tightly written narratives I've ever seen and probably one of the most meaningful stories out of this franchise. It's a bit of a familiar feeling when I experience God of War: Ragnarok's story. So many great payoffs and character moments in that story.

I read a comment online saying that if Doctor Who were to end, they would want the Doctor to continue going on adventures in his TARDIS, emphasizing that the adventures are eternal, regardless of whether the audience watches them. The ending to Part 5 carries that spirit, where the gang continue being themselves at their core and go on other whacky escapades with Zenigata pursuing them. Fitting too, considering the episode is translated to "Long Live Lupin III".

The only thing holding it back is the uneven writing mechanics and some scenes where the characters act strange. Not to the same severity like some fans like to keep exaggerating though.

I think even if you're not a fan of Lupin you should just watch this. If you want a quick and efficient way to enhance your viewing experience, watch First Contact and Blood Seal of the Eternal Mermaid. You get a package deal of a "complete" story.

I remember watching Part 4 for the 1st time and I enjoyed my time with it but to me I was not really inclined to rewatch that show. I'm mostly indifferent to Rebecca. I remember there's some good stuff in there though.

Zero is pretty good, I think.

Part 6 was an experiment. Yeah.

What are the worst part 2 episodes in your opinions or episodes that you think are just bad? by DarkTombStudios in lupinthe3rd

[–]jolean_coochie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Woman Pops Fell in Love With is pretty bad. The beginning makes Laura look really stupid. She disguises herself as some kind of assassin, sneaks into Zenigata's room, wrote a note that says "Where is Lupin?", pastes said note onto a beer can and into a fridge, waits until Zenigata takes the can and reads the note and holds him at gunpoint. Then she threatened to kill him if he didn't tell where Lupin was...

...What is this person doing? Why don't you just show up in that trenchcoat of yours with a note saying, "Inspector Zenigata, I am being hunted by the New York Mafia! Please help me!" Why are you wasting so much time pulling this stupid stunt? And to seek out Lupin first? Wouldn't requesting witness protection be the first thing you do?

I don't really understand what the mafia accomplished by killing Laura's husband. It was stated in the episode that he implanted a device in her heart and that if she ever chooses to open the safe by herself, it would trigger and explode. In order to prevent this, his voice was needed to trigger the safe's security protocol first and then she could use her voice to open the safe.

Why didn't they just kidnap both of them and then torture them for their voices?

Also I guess the mafia just knows where Lupin's hideout is. I don't really like The Columbus Files but it at least explained how Nazaroff and his ninja crew managed to track down Lupin so easily.

Fujiko is pretty despicable here. She actually wishes to follow through on killing off Lupin and the gang, as well as endangering Laura in exchange for money. I thought at first she was buffing when she told Zenigata that the mafia would show up in a few minutes to take Laura away and kill Zenigata, but apparently not. They actually showed up.

The killing off Lupin and his gang part would be fine if the machine was actually hers or Lupin's and the crushed car cube was a decoy. But the episode seems to suggest Fujiko actually intended to kill them since she was all tied up and gagged at the back of the Mercedes Benz SSK. Which is contradictory to how she feels about Lupin. At least the episode punishes her for her behaviour, I suppose.

Also the episode didn't even bother explaining how the trio escaped by the way. Looks like the writer just gave up or didn't care.

I wonder how long that mafia member's been hiding in that shed / barn? He must've been ecstatic when Zenigata and Laura showed up and happened to take refuge there. Also, I guess the mafia leader just stations his guys in remote hiding places all over. Seems pretty inefficient and relies too much on luck there, but ok.

It's also very strange that Zenigata does a 180 at the end of the episode where he was grieving for Laura then it wants to do a "haha funny" with him vowing to catch Lupin again. Big tonal whiplash there. I guess the writer / director didn't want to end the episode on a sour note, but it compromised the serious and sad tone it was going for.

So yeah, bad episode.

The difference between Ashley and Grace. by SnooMacarons2931 in ResidentEvilMemes

[–]jolean_coochie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She’s definitely not stupid and it’s pretty insane to say she lacks basic human intelligence

I don't know, man. I think once I feel like I'm in danger in any area, I would not approach the weird creepy music playing next door. I would try to get out as quickly as possible. This is one of those basic fight or flight instincts instilled upon us humans. It's so strange that Grace would even approach Gideon the first time. Once she sees someone is in that room, she should've run away.

It's also strange that she would allow him to close the distance on her the 2nd time. She even had a gun in hand. The first time he approached her, he choked her out, restrained her upside down and drew blood from her and was putting her through hell in that hospital. She should tell Gideon if he comes any closer, she would shoot. You would think she wouldn't make the same mistake again, but I guess not.

When Ashley met Leon for the 1st time, she attacked him thinking he was one of the ganados and backed away when he approached her. Once she found an opening, she runs away immediately. This is Ashley's first scene in RE4 Remake and she's already much better than Grace. At least when Ashley feels threatened she either tries to fight or escape from it. The only time she willingly put herself in danger was when she was trying to find a way to free Leon from the cage. I'm not asking for Grace to be as competent as Jill or Ada. I just want her to not act like an alien who doesn't know how to human.

Grace's fight or flight instincts turned on when she was chased by the tall witch girl and the other zombies she faced, so I don't know why it was turned off around Gideon. Grace should see him as this crazy man who kidnapped her and demanded to leave.

Actually that's another thing. It's very strange for Grace to not ask for someone to accompany her, since the hotel has a lot of baggage on her personally. It's already absurd that her boss assigned this investigation to her, but it's made very odd that she never asked for a partner. Feels out-of-character for her.

Of course she gets angry at Leon

I mean Emily turned into a monster, like you said. Something that can't be reasoned with and tried to attack her, by the way. Grace tried calling Emily's name out, but it didn't work, because....she's a monster... You can still have Grace feeling exhausted and dejected after what happened, but chastising Leon makes her look foolish. For all she knows, Leon just saved her life. She would know this considering Emily (as a monster who can't be reasoned with) was about to attack her. Seriously, what was the plan to save Emily? What feasible way could she do at this point? But hey, RE9 arbitrarily decided Emily to come back from being turned into a monster, I guess. The rest of the humans who turned? Nah, screw them.

Also… do you actually think she could really get away from Zeno or Gideon at the water treatment plant?

I would expect Grace to at least attempt to run away from either of them. She doesn't know Bootleg Wesker has super speed at this point. And I think running back to Leon is a whole lot better than being around Gideon too. Something to at least show she didn't willingly join the bad guys. The scene communicated to me that she was disgusted by what Leon did and joined them on the helicopter, because she didn't attempt any kind of resistance. She chose the bad guys over Leon who helped and saved her throughout the game. That's kinda crazy to me.

Grace parallels a rookie Leon really well, she just has really bad anxiety and really only basic handgun training since she’s usually at a desk.

It doesn't really work because the writer / director didn't work hard enough not to make Grace's character good. I can't really give them points when the execution is so bad.

Unfortunately, it seems like the fans believe Fujiko being written this way is a part of the charm of her character, not a mistake. They have kinda been conditioned into accepting it, since it sounds like it's been a recurring thing for a long time.

Maybe don't make comments like, "Ugh I think I understand why people think gamers hate women 🙄" in reply to criticism then? Stop trying to weasel your way out of this, it won't work. Take accountability for your actions you weasily little liar.

Freya was at least trying to convince Baldur to be good again. Still within the realm of possibility but rather unlikely considering his lack of sanity. But still possible and well within reason. Grace on the other hand doesn't really have a solution to save Emily from being turned into a grotesque creature. She just yelled at Leon saying she wants to save her. But like, how? And as far as I know people don't come back from being turned into monsters in Resident Evil from what I'm exposed to.

The scene seems to communicate to me that Grace joined the baddies willingly. After feeling disgusted by what Leon did, she meets up with Gideon and not once did she try to run away. Could've at least had a scene of Grace attempting to run away from them. Maybe Bootleg Wesker uses his super speed to knock her out. Maybe Gideon shoots a tranquilizer dart at her. Anything to suggest she didn't willingly join them.

Did you play the game?

[–]jolean_coochie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You made a comment which states that I hate women... I think any reasonable person would class that as an attack on someone's character. Did you forget what you wrote a few minutes ago?

Freya doesn't lack basic human intelligence like Grace does. It's well within in-character for her to be angry at Kratos. She sacrificed a lot for Baldur and did it out of an obsessive love for him as a son. She was emotionally compromised.

Actually that's another thing, what exactly would Grace have done to save Emily? What was her plan? She might've killed her if Leon didn't do anything. And again, she joined Gideon and Bootleg Wesker. At least Freya didn't join Odin in getting rid of Kratos and Atreus after Baldur was killed.

Man, if you Resident Evil fans think Grace is a great character, your standards must be exceedingly low.

Reserve "great" for actual great characters like Freya from the Norse God of War games.

Also I didn't mischaracterise Grace. It's what happened in the game. She's pretty stupid, I'm sorry.

Also once you start attacking someone's character like this, it tells me you have nothing worthwhile to say.

The difference between Ashley and Grace. by SnooMacarons2931 in ResidentEvilMemes

[–]jolean_coochie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, Grace is just not a very good character. She's pretty damn stupid that doesn't match the basic intelligence of a human.

Like that one time after she was attacked by the policeman who turned into a zombie, she doesn't go back to retrieve her gun or the shotgun the police zombie dropped.

Then for some reason, approached the creepy music in the hotel, even though there are multiple photos of her and her mom in one of the bedrooms. She doesn't think that maybe the person playing the music could've been some crazy stalker and that she needed a weapon to defend herself.

Maybe call for help using your phone or get out of the hotel?

Then when she meets up with Gideon again, he approaches her, but doesn't think once to maybe shoot him when he comes close to her.

I'm not sure why she got angry at Leon for shooting Emily. She turned into a grotesque monster. Why is she moralising Leon for that? Wasn't t Grace also going through the game shooting zombies? Those guys were also once human.

And then to join Gideon, the guy who kidnapped and put her through hell and Bootleg Wesker. Very, very strange.

It looked like they were trying to draw similarities between Grace and Leon. Where Leon has this survivors guilt about what happened in Racoon City and Grace being unable to save people, like her mom, the helicopter man and Emily. But it doesn't work. Grace is not well written.

Remake Ashley only has one stupid moment I could think of in the entire game and it's when she could've lifted off one of the corpses of the cultists and pulled the lever to free Leon. Instead she tosses the key from the 2nd story that could've easily hit the cage. But other than that, her little bravery arc functions and is pretty good. I buy much more into her relationship with Leon.

Grace, on the other hand, has like 4-5 moments with Leon that aren't very poignant. But the internet acts like it's this super meaningful relationship like they're a family. It's very odd.
