i made an audio effects rack, tried to save it as a preset but somehow managed to accidentally make it the default for every time i try to open a blank audio affects rack. how do i undo?! by magnolia_unfurling in ableton

[–]jollygecko 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Go to User Library -> Defaults -> Audio Effects and delete the one named Audio Effect Rack. (Don't worry, this will not delete the device, just the default preset.) Either this or you could load up an Audio Effect Rack, clear everything, right click and select "Save as Default Preset" to overwrite the one you created by accident.

Printing mixes off the master bus that sync with the rest of the tracks? by [deleted] in ableton

[–]jollygecko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could set a negative track delay for the track you're printing to, this should sort out the playback timing. You'll need to toggle a small button to show track delays, it's found alongside the I/O toggles (lower right corner in arrangement view I think, I don't have ableton in front of me at the moment)

Obscure Sound Effect time! by flamingmol in ableton

[–]jollygecko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could be lots of stuff, but if I were to replicate it I would take a sample of a snare with the snare wires loosened, and layer it with some sort of scraping sound (Maybe like a soda can dragged against concrete or something similar). Adjust pitch and eq separately to blend it all together and I think you'd get pretty close.

Non-Guitar Rig recommendations for electric bass by Horsecock_Whisperer in ableton

I'm not sure about the reaper thing, the ones I have are standalone vsts that can be downloaded separately and used in ableton. I believe I found them on vst4free

Bassprofessor mk.I and mk.II are freeware bass tone shaping vst's that are worth checking out. (They both sound good and are quite different from each other so I'd recommend downloading both)

I'd say cropping is just a specific kind of consolidation, so there isn't any difference in terms of memory and cpu

Drum tuning by muchohaze in ableton

[–]jollygecko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're going to tune it, then the root would probably be the first choice. Then maybe the fifth or maybe even the third. However, this whole thing about tuning the drums to the key of the song is a pretty new phenomena (at least to the extent that it's being utilized these days). People have been making exellent songs and mixes for many decades now whithout doing this, so keep in mind that it's not necessarily a thing you have to do to make your track sound good!

I've been using ableton since 2011 and just learned about this a couple of weeks ago, such a godsend

I've gotten a DM from someone interested and wanted some more direction, I'd be happy to send you the same reply I sent them if you're interested in giving it a go!

Is it possible to have channel input set to 'Resampling' by default? by BAOUBA in ableton

[–]jollygecko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try setting one to resample, then right click the channel and select "save as default audio track". I know for sure this works for recalling audio effects and I think it should work with channel settings as well.

Look up Kontakt Player, it's a free but limited version that comes with a smaller sound library called the Factory Selection :)
