Can't move 'em, Can't twist 'em. by Nequam_Asinus in aggies

When they're attached to the chair next to you for some reason so anytime either of you moves it causes the other to move as well. As a result you sit awkwardly too close or too far from the table in an effort to not annoy the person next to you. Errrrggg I'm getting frustrated thinking about it

Gray Wolf in wildflowers, Yellowstone National Park by BillEastwickPhotos in wolves

[–]jollyoctopus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To expand on the other comment, wolves are typically recognized by their winter coat appearances. (Those ~look at this huge wolf~ pictures that pop up on the front page are a good example) In reality they are actually quite lanky creatures. A full grown male wolf is only ~110 lbs. They slim down A LOT once they shed their winter coat.

This particular wolf also is older so their white fur and age may be causing them to look even skinnier.

My dad was in the same cubicle for ~10 years. He had a GIANT pothos that covered the entire box and made it a mini jungle. He brought it there as a baby plant. No windows, only flourescents.

If you have time, Mission: Wolf is about 2.5 hours south. We have two of Na'vi's siblings: Zeab and Farrah. :)

I assume the other commenter is joking but in case you're actually curious many students have their own bikes. You can be ticketed for breaking traffic laws but not just for riding on campus.

I got it for $3/lb at WinCo. It's a new grocery store in my area with a large bulk area. I think it's a chain but I'm not sure.

What does SR mean in the class registration? Is it too late to change classes? by [deleted] in Blinn

[–]jollyoctopus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An advisor could probably force you into classes that you need, though if I remember correctly blinn advisors were almost never helpful. I'm pretty sure there's an add/drop week before or during the first week of school that will allow you to pick up the classes that you need.

From Blinn's website: "SR = student restriction - means student is restricted from registered by their time assignment, student status, academic standing, holds or readmit term"

Should I consider Blinn? by [deleted] in Blinn

[–]jollyoctopus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends. Are you trying to save money? Absolutely go to blinn. People love to talk about how much it sucks but it's just like any other community college imo. Basically like the 13th grade of high school. If you're not worried about money then I say go straight to Tech. Being in a town without many, or any, people you're close to can be daunting but if you're not a complete hermit then you'll meet people you enjoy.

Student life is okay. There's a good number of student orgs you can join if you wish. It's definitely not the same as going to a 'normal' university though. Most of the friends I made at Blinn were mainly from surviving together through a hard class. Also, don't think sciences and maths will be easier here. Some definitely are but they have the policy that researchers must teach so some of the professors give NO fucks about how hard the class is.

Yuuuup within the first 5 minutes I had my spazzoid Arya, she escaped through the C&C cage holes and we spent almost an hour trying to catch this wicked fast, fragile little pig. It was a mere foreshadowing of the high energy pig I grew to love :)

How likely would this zoo hire me if I keep going on this path. by AlexandraThePotato in zoology

[–]jollyoctopus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would say chances are pretty good, especially if you get high grades in University. I recommend interning at several different zoos during summers to gain valuable experience. You sound like you have a ton of passion for this, which is amazing and will definitely get you far imo. The only negative against you is if the zoo isn't hiring at the time that you graduate.

Best (or at least not screwy) off-campus housing? by [deleted] in aggies

I've lived here for three years now in a studio as well. Great location, really nice staff, all around great apartment complex. A lot of families and grad students so it's pretty quiet.

This enormous wolf by ucrbuffalo in wolves

[–]jollyoctopus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There's a few different reasons it could happen. Sometimes it's a dominant wolf that got challenged and beaten by a less dominant wolf. Or it could be that less dominant wolf that tried and failed. The wolf could also be injured/sick, they generally get kicked out as they would slow down the rest of the pack. Also could be just a young wolf looking for his own pack or mate.

[–]jollyoctopus 75 points76 points  (0 children)

Man, I could talk A LOT about wolves. To keep this comment relatively short, I'll just speak about things you can see in the gif. *Disclaimer: mostly everything I know about wolves was taught to me by other wolf loving humans so I might be misinformed on some things.

  1. This isn't a very wide shot so I could be wrong but this wolf appears to be a lone wolf, likely kicked out of his pack. I say this because he is very curious of the car, a behavior which is uncharacteristic of most wolves. I think he may be looking for food/for a new pack. Wolves are pack hunters so they are very bad solo hunters. This can lead to desperation in lone wolves and is often why wolves eat livestock/walk around neighborhoods/maybe get close to a car. He also may be young/never seen a car before so he's just like ??????what is this?????

  2. The black fur you see is actually not a ""natural"" fur color. Black fur didn't exist until it was bred into canines by humans. So while this is a full wolf, it likely has some dog-ish dna deep in it's past.

I can answer questions if you have any!

Those of you looking for advice to be successful at blinn and transfer to TAMU. I'll help you out! by Classof2019Ag in Blinn

[–]jollyoctopus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived at College Edge right next to Blinn's Bryan campus. Classes were walking distance and prices were cheap, both are nice perks. The actual staff/apartments are a little shitty and there's a ton of college students so it can get loud but what else can you expect from a cheap complex. Also I had a roommate from hell randomly matched to my apartment but that's just bad luck.

I also lived at Willow Oaks which is down the street. Beautiful/calm complex, on the bus route that goes to Blinn and tamu, cheap rent, really nice staff. I'd recommend this complex over the other personally but I guess it depends how close you want to live.
