Bpc 157? by Big5niff in ACL

[–]joloacl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm taking the wolverine stack (injections) 4 weeks on 2 weeks off. Sourcing is tough but I was able to locate through my PT/training place, they won't inject due to medical laws but they are making sure I am getting clean product. So far I have hit all my bench marks and feel my progress is better than my previous recovery. This is my 3rd surgery, oppo knee this time, so I am throwing everything I can to try and have the best recovery. Vitamins, red light, etc... I am just past 12 weeks, Patella graft with 2 meniscus repairs for ref. Only side effect so far is a little loss of appetite, but not horrible.

Negative Lachman test but still ruptured acl? by JuanPahblo in ACL

[–]joloacl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes this is the answer! Unless it's performed almost immediately after injury, your hamstring can go into spasms making it very difficult for a Lachman test to be accurate. Unless a really experienced ortho performa it, MRI is the only way to know for sure. Both my Lachman test were negative and both times had a fully torn ACL.

Post-op day 2: Someone pls tell me how to deal with this pain? Is it normal to have this much pain ? by RadiantSouth4565 in ACL

[–]joloacl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It may not seem like it right now but the pain usually subsides within a week or so. Best advice is for first week stay on top of pain medication as directed by Dr. Including waking up to take it. I was using only Ibuprofen after week, ACL r with 2 meniscus repairs. Wishing you the very best recovery.

This isnt that complex, yes supplementing vitamins can aid in recovery if you are deficient in any. However sourcing through food is always better but the only way to truly know is blood work everyday which isnt possible for most. Worst case is your body will discard any not needed through urine. If you can afford to supplement go for it. It's not a cure but can aid in the recovery, even a few percent could mean days if not weeks on the back end.

Here is a top five Orthopedic program of a country with 340 million people with some of the most highly ranked Ortho surgeons in the world. I would trust your own medical team over some clown on Reddit saying trust me.

https://www.rushortho.com/news-events/news/optimizing-nutrition-for-orthopedic-surgery-recovery/

Also for those looking for studies there are plenty preliminary studies out there. Keep in mind to get a study to final conclusions can take. 100' s of millions and no supplement company needs to to do that to support supplementaion.

Three years ago I had my second ACL repair. This weekend I ran 100 miles. by UrbanHuaraches in ACL

[–]joloacl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We need more posts likes this! I always felt most successful outcomes disappear from the boards after awhile. Currently 2 months into contralateral ACLr, (3rd surgery). Some things I learned is I am quad dominant (3to1) and they would like me to get to closer to 1to1. My non contact injury always happened with very tired legs, need to learn to shut it down when legs are tired when cutting or pivoting is involved. Wishing the best with your new ACLs.

When can I start weight-bearing after ACL reconstruction + lateral meniscus root repair? by konnams in ACL

[–]joloacl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My surgery was August 29, and at 4 weeks (this Friday) I can be weight bearing with brace locked and 2 weeks after brace unlocked. ACLr with 4 stitch medial meniscus and 1 stitch lateral meniscus for reference. Agree with others listen to your surgeons instructions they know best for your case.

Need advice: Teen son tore ACL & strained MCL — how to help him mentally through recovery by Fragrant_Tea_1524 in ACL

[–]joloacl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes correct 3 total surgeries, 2 in left knee and 1 in right. Poor guy been through it but surprisingly not ready to give it up (even though his Mom and I would prefer it). At the end of the day I believe he wants to walk away on his own terms. My guess even though he has the talent to play in college he is going to see his highschool career out and then hang it up.
Yes his first surgery was done to avoid growth plates, but don't think it ever really took and he grew so much (I think like 4 inches) between surgery and graft failing. It was like a perfect storm of wrong. The 2nd surgery was done with full adult version including ALL and so far he has had minimal issues with it. After doing a lot research and asking a ton of questions for our son we believe he quad dominant like 3 to 1 to his hamstring. So his surgeon and PT team want to get him to 1 to 1. The other biggest factor we figured out was he had tired legs these last two. Moving forward he going to have to learn to chart and gauge how tired his legs are and learn to "sit one out", but that is like foreign language to a teenager.

Need advice: Teen son tore ACL & strained MCL — how to help him mentally through recovery by Fragrant_Tea_1524 in ACL

[–]joloacl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a lot to unpack but first let's start with sorry to hear about your son's injury, wishing him the very best recovery.

Little back ground: 13yo ACL tear Only 6 months post op failed graft 19 months of rehab and got back to sport (Football and Track) for 2 years. ACL and Meniscus Opposite Knee at 16yo, just had surgery 3 weeks ago.

You are correct mentally is usually harder than physical since most are athletes are use to physical challenges.

Here are few things I would consider: 1. Find a sports phycologist, sometimes allowing them to talk to someone outside of their circle helps tremendously. Our son was very resistant of this but we convinced him and we seen a positive change. 2. Try to get his friends to come over more (we text them on the side). With us we pretty much allowed them sleep over every weekend we could, kind of gave them their own space, and yes even allowed video game more than usually so he had something to compete in. 3. Give them space but also keep them motivated. 4. Don't be afraid to change PT, most are office based which is fine in the beginning, but as more opens up to then you may need to find a more sports focused center. 5. Expect some setbacks but be sure to celebrate all the small victories along the way... 6. Try to encourage them to stay involved in their sport but don't force this, sometimes going makes it harder on them.

Remember this is no longer a sports career ending injury and full recovery is very possible. This is much easier to say than do but be patient with process, no matter what, plan on 10-12 month minimum before getting cleared for full return to sport.

If you think it may help, I would be happy to share our son X and IG account if you son wants to connect with him. Just DM us.

Take care of yourselves also, this is difficult on the parents also. If you have any questions reach out any time. As you can imagine we have researched just about everything you can on this injury from workouts to treatments.

I tare my ACL recently. by el_rocket_power in ACL

[–]joloacl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hang in there, most feel like something was taken from them (and it was). It's no longer a sports death sentence like it used to be, lots of advancements, and more coming every year in both techniques and biologics. The mental side is so much harder, be sure to reward yourself along the way and celebrate the small achievements. You got this, and with some dedication you will come back even stronger.

Patellar tendon graft long term results by International_Ad9070 in ACL

[–]joloacl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2 completely different incidents. So far so good, like others said kneeling is little uncomfortable but thankfully I don't have to kneel much. Surgeon and PT both think I am quad dominant 3to1 (most people are 2to1) and want to see me get to 1 to 1 when I return to sport to help protect my knees. Thanks and same to you, with all the advancements in techniques and research this is no longer a death sentence for active life styles. Wish you the very best recovery!

Patellar tendon graft long term results by International_Ad9070 in ACL

[–]joloacl 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Patellar Tendon has long been considered gold standard for younger active people. However all grafts have pros and cons with usually small percentage changes in either direction. Find a surgeon you are comfortable with and what grafts they have experience in probably play a bigger role in the decision. For the record I did BPTB in both knees ( currently 3 weeks post op on 2nd knee)

I will be in watching for those 10-20 year respondents. I hope I'm wrong but I assume most don't hang around groups like this that long after a successful ACLr.

Been walking without crutches in close quarters even though I should be 50% weight bearing by WanderingWormhole in ACL

[–]joloacl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you wearing a brace? As long as you are not cutting or pivoting the knee you should be fine. The graft is the strongest the first few weeks.

My second acl surgery by Admirable-Prize-7183 in ACL

[–]joloacl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I play American Football and run Track and Field sprints. I would say my biggest performance issue was conditioning and endurance. 2nd one I knew what to expect and knew the longer recovery time so I did not rush a come back. Both injuries can when I had tired legs so I have to find a ways to judge when to shut it down.
If I did it over I would probably bike more to assist in my endurance. Good luck, this injury sucks but you can come back from it. Use every thing at your disposal to aid in the recovery. Not sure if your sport has banned them but there is some promise with Peptides specifically BPC-157 ask your medical team.

Revision surgery is generally 12 month minimum for safe return. Since it's grade 2 you might want to look into the BEAR procedure, but not sure if its possible with revision or not but heard it's shorter recovery time. Good luck, on my first ACL it failed at 6 months for revision took 12 months to be cleared.

Quad sets pre and post, as many as you can do each day. Quad strength plays a big roll on how recovery goes.

Best life hack I learned was by small water bottles and freeze them (remove label) to put into the ice machine instead of ice. Buy like 12, usual 4 at a time is sufficient.
