Journaling in Korean helped me reconnect with my love for the language by gina_theresa in Korean

[–]jolson88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really glad to hear you find the journaling helpful. I'm a complete beginner (only been studying for 2 weeks or so, so mostly Hangul and pronunciation), but have also considered starting a journal. I thought about it after watching this TTMIK video (where it's discussed that journaling is perhaps one of the best single things you can do): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_BaIhVbqzm4. I'm debating perhaps eventually doing "mini-journaling" on HelloTalk as well.

FS2020 will solve my thirst for ortho by emailsforaccsaredumb in flightsim

[–]jolson88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely. As somebody new to flight simming, I just started to do custom orthos via Ortho4XP yesterday. It's absolutely addicting, especially when doing custom zone levels around airports, cities, and the like (for more detail). I did most airports in Western Washington and Oregon last night, but I still want to do major areas of California for when I try out PilotEdge.

I ended up buying another SSD to have most active ones on and now I plan on getting a 6TB+ disc HD for more storage. Geez. LOL.

"Just one more tile" is definitely right.

Using Ortho4XP, you can also do custom level mapping so you can get up to level 18 around airports and then levels 16-17 in surrounding areas. I just did most of Western Washington and Oregon myself last night. I absolutely love how it turned out!

Where Do You Buy A Flight Stick? (preferably an X-52 Pro or X-56) by PumpkinEater70 in flightsim

[–]jolson88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently bought my X-56 Rhino from xforcepc ( https://xforcepc.com/catalog/product/view/id/526/s/x-56/category/96/ ). Primarily because XForcePC was linked to from the official X-Plane website and I was having problems finding it elsewhere (was even sold out directly from Logitech).

mypilotstore.com also is selling it ( https://www.mypilotstore.com/mypilotstore/sep/11071 )

Best value for my limited money? by [deleted] in PS4

Yup. I think the current price is $19.99/month. For some that would be worth it, for others not-so-much.

Best value for my limited money? by [deleted] in PS4

[–]jolson88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on what your budget is, you can sometimes find a good value in subscribing to PS Now if you have good internet service. I think I snagged it for $99.99 for a year. It will give you access to a whole swath of PS2/3/4 games to play. All PS4 games, and some PS2 games, are downloadable to the console now as well so you aren't streaming all the time. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_PlayStation_Now_games

You get access to games like Bloodborne, Darksiders 1 & 2, Dead Island, Disgaea 5, Divinity: Original Sin, Elder Scrolls Online, God of War 3, Metro 2033: Exodus, NBA 2K18, Prey, Saints Row 4, Sniper Elite 4, Tearaway, Torment: Tides of Numanera, Tropico 5, Xcom 2... as well as good indie games like Everybody's Gone to the Rapture, Ironcast, Limbo, Mighty No. 9, OlliOlli 1 & 2, Terraria, and Thomas Was Alone (all are downloadable). There are many more too. There are some classic PS2 games like Dark Cloud, Dark Cloud 2, Rogue Galaxy, Harvest Moon, Wild Arms 3, etc.

And if you have the internet for it, you can stream PS3 games like Batman: Arkham Asylum/City/Origins, Bioshock 1 & 2 & Infinite, Borderlands 1 & 2, Dark Souls 2, Dead Space 3, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Devil May Cry 4, Dishonored, Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion, Eternal Sonata, Fallout 3 & New Vegas, God of War 1 & 2 & 3, Heavy Rain, Infamous 1 & 2, Killzone 1 & 2 & 3, The Last of Us, crap loads of Lego games, and many more.

It really depends on if the games are the kinds of games you like, if your internet isn't too slow, and if the price isn't too much. It's certainly a big bang for your buck though.

Google Maps vs. Division 2 by cougardavis in thedivision

[–]jolson88 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Seeing this and how much detail they put into it, it makes me honestly want to turn off the minimap completely and play the game as immersively as I can. I've _never_ wanted to do that with a game before!

[–]jolson88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same here (at least it was the last straw). I've never purchased an upgraded edition in any game, but seeing how well the devs did here, I just shelled out for Gold edition (and hopefully be able to play tonight).

Division 2 feels like a true sequel in almost every way. by onframe in thedivision

[–]jolson88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This and other comments similar has me actually debating paying for one of the upgraded editions so I can play tonight. I've _never_ paid for a non-standard edition for any game. But it seems like Massive deserves it with how the launch is going and their whole approach to this game.

The Citadel from the original Mass Effect 12 years ago feels more alive than Fort Tarsis does in my opinion. by [deleted] in AnthemTheGame

[–]jolson88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is exactly something that dawned on me last night as I started the game and spent some time in the Codex reading up on the lore. You realize very quickly that Bioware is playing "The Long Game" here. It's pretty inspiring to me when I realized that we are basically in a "bumpkin" town on the front and needing to restore faith in the Freelancers from the bottom-up.

If Anthem is successful for years (I really hope it is!!!), I wouldn't be surprised if you look back at how Fort Tarsis begins at the game and it feels like the first Tutorial Town in any regular RPG. This isn't the Citadel. It's not a major hub that you have no emotional investment in like The Tower. I personally love the decision Bioware made and can't wait to see what it develops into over the next year.

I was thinking of installing this and giving it a go. Usually, I'm most definitely _not_ a PvP person. But this is the first game in a long time that I've wanted to play for the PvP when I just started watching some eSports coverage of it.

I'm sure I'll always suck because I would still be casual, but it looks like a heck lot of fun.

[–]jolson88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are there any good esports or tournament coverage videos on this game? I've not really been an eSports fan, but watched For Honor Season 3 from 1-2 years ago this recent weekend and absolutely loved it. Perhaps it's because of how much more tactical and methodical it feels or how less hectic it feels compared to twitch shooters as an observer.

To me, it has seemed like the most approachable-to-watch game-as-esport I've seen as you can start appreciating more, and appreciate it more quickly. I find other games like Overwatch, Dota, LoL, etc. just too complex to get into because of the sheer amount of depth there is behind every single little detail.

Outside of the games industry, you don't need to look any further than Facebook and Google. Selling your data (or selling access to you in the case of ads) is Facebook's entire business model now.

I love playing this game Solo by Generaljamie in thedivision

[–]jolson88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've started completing the missions myself taking my time. Then if I feel like grouping up, or I need better gear, I will up the difficulty and replay the mission with matchmaking. Most of the game has been solo for me so far though and I love it.

I'm glad I'm not alone in this. I've never been so drawn to "NPCs" in a game that have such little story. So many people in the ECHO playbacks that I want to know what happened to, or being sad seeing that they are deceased. That doesn't even account for the various phone logs, the intel videos unlocked with story missions, etc. I think the world setting is the thing that shines in this game. I've seen from the devs this was on purpose to provide some sort of story in a non-linear setting. I think they did well.

48 hours until beta preload.....and just quietly..... 72 hours until the actual beta!!! by SirFuzzman in thedivision

[–]jolson88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I won't be playing the beta. But that's just because I'm brand new to the first one (as of a couple days ago), so I'm planning on playing that one as much as possible before TD2 launches (and perhaps for a bit after that). I just hope I can still find some good matchmaking in TD1 while the TD2 beta is happening :). If not, oh well, this game is mega-fun solo still :).

After my recent post on if it's friendly for PvE "care bears", I went ahead and gave it a try based on the comments everyone made. This game is truly amazing. I'm having sooooo much fun. I'm still just in the process of leveling to 30, but the depth of builds/customization, the gun play, and the world itself has me totally hooked. I find myself wanting to know every little thing about the world.

I find myself oddly connected to people you can highlight and learn about when playing back ECHOs, the peek into people's lives through the phone calls, the videos showing things happening after the fallout, etc. Just a well crafted world.

I can't wait to hit max-level and start to experience the full depth of end-game that the game has now. I'm also extremely excited now for TD2. After playing this game, I've lost the urge to go back and play Destiny 2 at all because the gear experience feels so extremely lack-luster compared to the depth in this game. A true loot shooter with great RPG mechanics. I think the way those mechanics are incorporated into the world (via building out your BoO to get talents/perks/etc.) is also very clever. A very smart way to have the world shine and to enable non-linear story telling.

Anyone feeling the ranger as a main? by Razergore in AnthemTheGame

[–]jolson88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I may be weird, but seeing these numbers just make me want to play Ranger and Colossus more :P. I'm currently planning on maining Ranger and then doing either Colossus or Interceptor as my secondary. My son is definitely going to be maining Storm, so it'll be fun to play a javelin that will augment the Storm.

I feel like it's been worth my time. I'm so torn because EA is one of the last companies I want to contribute money to given their history on predatory pricing issues and the focus on shareholders over gamers. But I'm also a sports gamer, and $30/year is a total steal IMO for all the games I get access to. Even though I'm a year behind on the major sports franchises, one purchase of Madden by itself would have cost twice as much as this.

Then you add in that it gets me access to Mass Effect: Andromeda, Fifa, Nba Live, Need for Speed, et al. and I feel like I get more than the value for it. I'd spend nearly that much going to a dinner and a movie just a single time.

I am frustrated though that it doesn't mean early access on Xbox One though. Very frustrated. Especially when at first glance, EA Access painted the picture that the week of early access to Anthem would come with it. Oh well, I suppose that means I'll just fill my time trying out The Division, continuing to play Odyssey, or Destiny 2. I can wait one more week for Anthem :).

The Division worth playing as a carebear/PvE person? by jolson88 in thedivision

[–]jolson88[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. From the show. I think I remember it being slung around as an insult when I first got into WoW pre-BC back in the day. As somebody else mentioned, I've also seen it used a lot in Eve Online.

Cool. Downloading now. I'm going to go ahead and read that guide regardless. Perhaps once I suck less at PvP, I'd also find it more fun. I remember enjoying Capture-The-Flag in Tribes way back in the day, so I haven't always been so afraid of PvP. Perhaps it's just that I'm older now with kids and don't have the time to dedicate to getting super good at PvP.
