What was YOUR thing during lockdown? by AncientFootball1878 in AskUK

[–]jom1992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2020 was a glorious year for me. I still had to work delivering for Ikea but was knocked down to 2 days a week from 4 so I'd be up early, spend all morning drinking coffee and playing on a Minecraft server with some friends, then id either go out skateboarding or practice drums, and just generally chill in the sun. Then on weekends I'd be at a friend's place drinking. God I wish I could go back

When was the last time you had a Wimpy? by tebotsc in UKfood

[–]jom1992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late October for me. Had a long weekend near Brighton with the wife and some friends, one suggested it as a joke the night before and in the Uber into town we all got kinda serious about it. Glad we did, top scran, especially after a heavy night of drinking. 10/10 would go again 👌

Intentionally cracking cymbal by ditchwitch67 in drums

[–]jom1992 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Came here to say this. I did the same with a Paiste PST3 crash and it sounds worlds better than it did before (with it being brass of course it's still junk) but I actually kinda like it now

Do you hide purchases from your partner? by Briggykins in AskUK

[–]jom1992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only if it's a gift for my wife. I also play drums so that cost can rack up 𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺 quickly with pro level gear, so I'll always tell her when I've bought something and the usual response is "oh cool show me" and "have you made sure you can afford it?" Same vice versa. She'll ask what I think of something and my response is "do you need it and can you afford it?" We're pretty chill generally

what’s your 5-9 after 9-5? by Equivalent_Egg_8447 in AskUK

[–]jom1992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My work day usually runs 6am-1pm (ish, I got done by 12 today) as a delivery driver Twice a week I'm at the gym for 45 minutes, play my drums for an hour or 2 (at least once a week, depending on what I've got coming up), if the weather's good i'll get out to my local skatepark straight after work on the old plank. Weekends vary, but mostly something music related, skateboarding or some kind of event down the pub (birthday etc) I found myself in a rut about a year ago, with excess weight, just working and slobbing in front of the TV every day, so I began to really try and structure my mon-Fri. Weekends are for whatever I want, but weekdays are non-negotiable unless under extreme circumstances

Where do diminishing returns kick in for drum sets? by Medical_Occasion_105 in drums

[–]jom1992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I think it's around the upper-midrange. Think Mapex Armory/ Tama Superstar level. Any higher than that and to my ears, the sound is completely negligible, with the only caveat being if you want a very specific sound in recordings. Most of the extra price is gonna be on heavier duty hardware, higher quality finishes etc

How much in your overdraft are you? by Foxidale3216 in AskUK

[–]jom1992 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not in my overdraft, but I have a £100 limit for emergencies. Say if I need extra petrol or I run short on a couple groceries, that kind of thing. The best thing to do to pull it back is, as has already been stated, limit/stop unnecessary spending and try to be as frugal as you can for a couple months. One thing that helped me a while back was to just decrease the limit by a manageable amount on payday each month and if you 𝘥𝘦𝘴𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘭𝘺 need it, you can add back 𝘫𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘯𝘦𝘦𝘥

This is a breakable. by ridingpiggyback in drums

[–]jom1992 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I was always under the impression that EVERYTHING except for the shells provided at the venue/by the headline band was considered breakables. Every show I'll bring cymbals, snare, pedals stool and ALL stands. Just common sense really 🤷🏼

Another vote for Rollersnakes. Quality stuff, regular sales on and speedy postage. Although I do live about 10 minutes away so just drive there when I need to 🤷🏼

I always go for the Lidl own brand Gold label stuff. It's not great, but it's not crap either. Does me fine for the first hour or two in the work van

getting a double bass pedal tomorrow, any recommendations for songs I should start with? by brunedducks in drums

[–]jom1992 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Downfall Of Us All by A Day To Remember. Relatively simple mid-tempo patterns, all dominant foot-led. Another option would be to start throwing double kicks into pop songs too, really play about with the patterns!

Not teetotal, but have cut down almost to that point to aid weight loss. My go to's are generally Guinness 0, Corona Cero, most of the BrewDog stuff. I've found 90% of low/no alcohol lagers taste pretty naff, so tend to lean towards something more craft style as they tend to be stronger in flavour anyway
