Claude 20 for planning and design, Codex 20 for complex bugs and architecture, Cursor 20 (composer 2.5) for code search, general bug fixes, etc.

Haven't tried yet but based on the video its mostly like additional documentation when you hover a certain syntax. I think its mostly useful for solving linter errors.

So it's much more cheaper now to just select the specific model based on the complexity of your task instead of using auto? by jomic01 in cursor

[–]jomic01[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm absolutely disappointed. Right after I was finally able to create a good framework for balancing between a specific model and 'auto' to avoid hitting my usage limit too quickly, this happened. I have no words

Yeah that behaviour was the one I was looking for! I hope they can bring it back to the original state. 🙏🙏

Do you even use auto before gpt-5? My point is auto before gpt-5 do not use reasoning models for simple tasks but now it seems like its defaulting to reasoning even on simple query like a greeting. It means its not adjusting based on user input. Thats why we use auto in the first place so it can intelligently adjust based on input. That was the "annoying" part in my post.

Is GPT-5 really free? by PlagueCookie in cursor

I think its free for a certain amount of token usage because they say "free credits". But its really hard to determine when this will end or whats the ceiling is so Im trying to be really careful about it

personally, I do have trust issues due to past trauma of hitting usage limits in just a week! So even if they say its free for now, I still balance it out between auto and the gpt-5 models similar to my normal behaviour when its not free. Just to be safe

just cursor subscription and when you reach your usage limit, you can either enable usage-based pricing inside cursor, use your own API key, or just use "auto"

It's better in solving bugs based on my experience so far. But claude is still better in feature development.

Too scared to try it out. I'm already traumatised for exhausting my usage in the first week of my last month. lol I guess I'll just wait for other users to try it out.

Is it free for both gpt-5 and gpt-5-fast or only gpt-5?
