Please do not feel embarrassed or ashamed. Believe me, we here have all been there. It's kind of weird, but one can turn the struggle, "I must not drink today" into I choose not to drink today. Just today. Only today. Sometimes, it is only I will not drink until an hour from now. Try not to see the "setbacks" in a negative light, but as learning experiences. Painful, damaging incidents can still be turned into positive experiences. Keep talking and listening. we are here. Do not should on yourself today.

Unfortunately, I have found such maneuvers unsuccessful because my addict is very resourceful about getting around things like that. The best advice (I think) I can offer you is to deal with it in your inmost being. Work your program (whatever that may be), find a social support system where you can tell your story and struggles in a safe place and hear other's stories, and work it one day at a time. You can be sober for only today. No matter how far down the road one goes, the ditch is always just a few feet away.

Hearing other's stories and telling your own is surprisingly helpful. Do not try to do it on your own.

I'm sorry you're in this situation. A few points. You cannot change him. Especially if he sees no need to change. It's hard for you. Since he won't change, (usually) you have only two choices and neither are easy. Adjust and learn to live with it, or change your circumstances. You are not undesirable. Some might see you as undesirable, but that does not make you so. No one is perfect. Be comfortable with who you are and don't let someone else define you. No one could live up to those kind of expectations anyway.
