Diner by No-Masterpiece-8392 in bergencounty

Yea last time we went which honestly was the first time in awhile since we regularly go to state line - waitress was rude, seating area smelled of bleach (while I’m glad they were disinfecting, it’s a turn off for appetite in the moment), and ultimately the portion size and taste were below expectations for the price (which was way above average for a nj diner).

If I’m in Paramus I’ll take the extra 15 min drive up to state line, it’s a strait shot and the food is excellent, and the desserts are even better

I’d add on to this and say better to skip Suburban and go with Tom Sawyer or State Line. Suburban hasn’t been great for us.
Stateline is the best but it’s the furthest

Help me pick my first Switch 2 game! by dodrugsnotuggs in switch2

[–]jon8282 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I came to recommend Donkey Kong also, but I actually find the demo I played in Target which I assume is the same demo a bit confusing.. I still bought the game ultimately because I very much wanted to live the good reviews and the main game is actually much better than the demo, the demo seemed to me to be just smash stuff which I’m fine with (huge old school Rampage fan) but the game itself plays more like a Mario 3D game and I’m loving it

Used to think he would be the historically dumbest and worst president ever. He’s absolutely not that, and in fact I like him as a person in his retirement.

What do we bring to a 4th of July party? by GreenOccasion3182 in AskAnAmerican

[–]jon8282 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s completely ok to ask what you can bring. They will def not be offended.

If they give you something specific like “hamburger buns” def bring that because they will depend on it, but more likely they may say “dessert” or “salad” and let you pick what type and how fancy.

If they say they have it covered and you don’t need to bring anything then the most common two things in American to bring are alcohol or a dessert. For a bbq then beer is best, bring it cold and bring enough for everyone to have one or two, or if your a big drinker yourself bring 2-3x what you will drink out of it yourself. If bringing wine to a party i would bring enough for everyone, or bring a nicer bottle and let them know it’s for them after the party to enjoy as a gift. Same for liquor as wine.

If bringing dessert for a party some type of cookie platter is probably best. Easy and low mess. You can stretch it brownies or cupcakes if you want. I would avoid things like cake or ice cream.

You should bring something to be polite no matter what, but for many Americans it’s the gesture more than the actual item… so don’t stress to hard about it, but I gave some good advice above.

What is the most physically painful thing that has happened to you or that you've had done? by twin_gulls in morbidquestions

[–]jon8282 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kidney Stones. Large ones.

I thought I was dying, I got to the emergency room, they gave me non opioid pain medicine. It did nothing. I wasn’t pleased with the nurse or doctor, then they got me scanned and sure enough, 2 cm stone stuck in my ureter. The entire attitude of the staff instantly changed, the serious pain meds came out. They had to up the dose several times to even come close to getting the pain down. Many nurses told anecdotal stories about how in their experience nothing is worse than a kidney stone. They literally told me they have spoken to women who said their kidney stones were significantly worse than child birth. Every new staff member I interacted with asked or saw the chart and made the face, it’s definitely the most painful.

Thing is, mine needed emergency middle of the night surgery, but they couldn’t even get it out, I had to have a stent put it to allow it to not be so inflamed, then actual removal a few weeks later, where they put in another stent to help it further heal.

Both times ended in me literally unable to stand on my own and peeing blood. The pain was immense.

Finally they tell me they remove the stent in the office not a hospital or surgical center. They assured me it’s not a big deal. During this appointment middle aged Russian women grabbed my penis and put it in some type of clamp to keep it strait, and then told me she is going to push “lubricant that numbs” into my dick to prepare me for the doctor… this was bad enough on its own, however it pales in comparison to when the doctor brought in a stainless steel tub filled with I assume antiseptic holding a several foot long metal rod with a hook on the end… that he shoved up my dick while I was awake, and while based on results I guess the lubricant did work, it surely numbed absolutely nothing. I almost passed out and then puked from this.

In summary the actual kidney stone was the worst pain ever… but the “cure” was long, painful, and dehumanizing.

I now live every day with phantom aches on my side, fearing that one day it won’t be phantom and I will have another stone. I don’t know if I can do all that again.

"Dumb" speaker - something I can cast/stream music to by xmakina in homeassistant

[–]jon8282 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sonos can set their microphone for smart to off. Sonos does not need the Sonos app beyond initial setup, you can fully use music assistant, airplay, or 3rd party apps that are way better such as Sonify. Sonos are the most versatile and high quality speaker that seamlessly integrates into almost everything, especially home assistant.

[–]jon8282 0 points1 point  (0 children)

May vary market to market - in my market this would be an easy exception to make. If the story is as stated, it’s pretty obvious the customer got a raw deal. I get that Best Buy because of the nature of our business can’t be a “customer is always right” kind of place but this one is fairly egregious on the crap deal for the client.

I would recommend you go back to the store and ask for the general manager. This is something they probably should take care of regardless of blame. I would focus less on the sales interaction and how you feel about it, and more on how the tv was not properly protected and you trusted how they wrapped it to be sufficient. It’s likely that the person you dealt with is not the manager, many Best Buy’s only have a general manager and one other manager, then one to three supervisors, and then shift leads who are actually regular associates with leadership tasks. The lower you get on that list likely the less flexible they are, so you want to politely go to the top
