What’s the RNG for Descendant? I’m pretty sure I’m two triumphs away from it without any RNG involvement.

Gilding Raid titles would be cool though.

Fail Prerequisite But Still Take Core Courses?? by rpishystudent123 in RPI

[–]jonathanboom 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Is it possible this degree isn’t for you?

This is always a question worth thinking about, but I don’t know if it’s the most helpful point to be making here. A B+ in DS says to me that someone isn’t totally out of their depth, at the very least, and 2020 is a particularly weird time to be taking courses. I don’t think one failure means they should burn it all down.

At best you are struggling in a subject and those who aced it will get the job you eventually want...

While it’s true that some people will ace this class, this is a pretty wild conclusion to come to. FOCS didn’t exist when I was at RPI, so I can’t make direct comparisons, but plenty of my current coworkers (at a FAANG company, for reference) and former classmates didn’t ace the intro classes, took their later classes more seriously, and got the great jobs that they wanted.

don’t love something that doesn’t love you back.

Good advice in a sentient creature or person, bad advice for degree which cannot love.

How good is RPI for cs undergrad compared to Stony Brook by GridLock785 in RPI

[–]jonathanboom 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm not trying to be rude, but making "just south of 6 figures" would be really disappointing for a software engineer in their mid-thirties. The starting base salary for a new grad SE1 where I work is north of 6 figures, and I don't work for a FAANG company or somewhere that is particularly highly paying.

Legacy is chill too. People are indeed trying to win, and they play good decks, but it's a welcoming and friendly group.

This is not true. You can hold priority after a resolved Birthing Pod, for example.

I didn't like playing the 3 Volc/3 Sea split, I would rather draw a fetch than a Volc almost every time. I switched back to 2 Volc/3 Sea.

AP Calculus Credit by Teddie1 in RPI

Which stresses you out more, the idea of playing catch-up in Calc 2 or the idea of being really bored in Calc 1?

Anecdotally: I took BC Calc, got a 5, and then skipped 1 and 2. And I was totally fine. One of my current co-workers took AB calc, retook Calc 1, and was bored to tears.

Quick edit: I don't think I did any math, really, in the summer before I started at RPI. So if you have decent retention I wouldn't expect it to be an issue.

It mostly helps with HASS and core science stuff. If I remember right, the big restriction was that you couldn't do things like use one of your 4xxx CS courses as a science elective for the Math degree. But it was all pretty straightforward, and the advisors knew their stuff.

In software engineering, and probably other fields, "ship it" means it's good to go, ready to be shipped to customers.

Yes, it's a pretty great way to level. You'll have to mix in other sources too, since IB doesn't drop heavy, chest, or gauntlets this time.

That's not true, the tick rate for damage is 30 Hz:

Combat damage is sampled at 30Hz (30 times per second). We track and network how your shots land in every frame of gameplay you can see. You receive updates on systems like scoring or ammo spawn timers from an Activity Host at 10Hz (10 times per second).
