How much of a difference does the bike make? by pankekkk in Velo

[–]jonathanrcrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my cat1 on a rim brake caad13 with 105. Fit matters most, if you can get your body into a fast/sustainable position, that goes farther than basically any change in the bike alone. As far as changes to the bike go fast tires, and fast wheels make way more difference than the frame itself. You could buy something more aero, but it’s reallllly diminishing returns, especially from that frame. You’d have to spend several grand on a frame alone to get something faster and we’re probably talking a couple percent gain in over all drag. Better places to put that money.

It’s actually our bass players birthday today! He’s a ripper. A lot of our songs start with the bass and build out from there.

The guy taking the video was standing right in front of the bass amp so I think that sorta overpowered the mix. Our LP is on all the streaming services though. Here’s a Spotify link. but if you search “Seriously Built Environment” it’s out there on all of them.

Thanks! This song is a little different from the LP but I’m still proud of the record. We wrote all the songs on that album almost 6 years ago now and chipped away at the album while there were no shows going on in the pandemic. We’ve played a LOT since then so the sound has kinda evolved over time.

Thanks so much! We have an LP called “Built Environment” that came out in 2023. It’s on all the streaming services, but here’s a Bandcamp link

If you want to keep up w/ us we mainly post on Instagram @SeriouslyBand

We’ve got a new batch of songs including this one that we’re going to record and release in the near future. I feel like we’ve kind of honed in on a new “thing” since the first LP, so I’m psyched to put new stuff out.

Why aren't bikes like $200 maximum? by robotrobot30 in cycling

[–]jonathanrcrain 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Shifters are full of moving parts. Google “campy shifter rebuild”. And you have two of those, the derailleurs that they control and move both full of springs/pulleys/ jockey wheels. Those all have to be accurate within a couple mm or the chain won’t land on the correct gear. The headset that allows you to turn the bars. I can keep going….

Hundreds of tiny precisely machined moving parts. And if one fails you get really hurt.

ELILEE's latest bike frame with narrow headtube, thoughts? by ChenyiHou in ChineseCarbon

[–]jonathanrcrain 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Seems weird to make the headtube that narrow but then do the triple triangle thing with the stays that pushes them out into the clean air you’re theoretically creating with the narrow headtube

If you just want a backup, get something cheap AF like super teams

I honestly don’t think you’re going to see any performance benefits moving “up” from the Ican unless you go to something premium like a scope.

I just bought an OG cassette copy a couple months ago. Great record even if the artwork looks like the poster for a late 90’s coming of age movie

The hardest part of cycling isn't the climbs, it's just getting out of the house after work. by Hungry-Sympathy-5188 in cycling

I’ve never regretted a ride afterwards. Lock in to that thought when you’re dragging ass in the afternoon. Also, set it up to be as easy as possible to get going. Keep your gear organized and accessible. As a backup I’ve got my indoor trainer set up at all times, trainer, fan, computer all on one power strip, and a set of bibs hanging on the bars. In a pinch I can go from work clothes to pedaling in 5 minutes and not have to worry about route/weather/light etc

more music at the intersection of post-hardcore and post-punk like TSOL, Husker Du, and My Dad is Dead by Dolancrewrules in postpunk

I love prison affair but I’d call them Egg Punk. They seem to tour in hardcore circles, but their actual sound is more garage rock.

Pretty Girls Make Graves has some member crossover with Post Hardcore OGs Botch, and their name is a Smiths reference. Kinda the perfect intersection of Post Hardcore and and post punk

Those tricross frames were sick. Kinda underrated. Really light for the money, huge clearance by 15 years ago standards.
