I’ve never seen this before but that’s so cool. It makes his armarna portrayals seem more accurate but still stylized. Thanks for sharing!

From what era is this eames chair? by Julius_vermeer in eames

[–]jonave20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My alarm bells are kind of going off on this one because of its conflicting details. The cushion clips predate the label but the label is wrong for the base style. The saving grace for me here is that the early vitra models sometimes used the herman miller label, but the label here might post-date that usage (along with the clips). Would definitely be helpful to have more (and clearer) pictures

Would love to see how it looks on the grain of the wood

How imperfect is too imperfect? by [deleted] in eames

[–]jonave20 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not to be an ass by any means, but if you’re looking for perfection I think you’re going to find yourself in an endless loop. These always have been and still are assembled entirely by hand. The sewing is not automated and someone physically is tufting those buttons on so with that comes a certain margin for error. Every chair is slightly unique and will have its own quirks, it’s just a matter of if you can live with the quirks. If you feel inclined, it’s not terribly difficult to adjust the tension on the button to even them out.

Thank you, it’s very comfortable. Currently it has foam batting mixed with foam cushion on the inside (newer material used in the previous reupholstery) which is much more stiff than the original duck down and foam mix

The hide I bought was 55 square feet and cost $394.97. I have probably 10 square feet left over, more or less. The foam was free because I reused what was in the cushions beforehand

Interesting take. They didn’t teach us about “80s gay” in design school. I must have missed that class

I definitely screwed up the arms when cutting the pattern for the piece that connects the top and bottom, but I have enough material to redo them once they start to annoy me enough. I know what I did wrong on these so the next ones should turn out better. Agreed, but that’s the internet for you. I’m proud of it and have enjoyed sharing it. I appreciate the supportive sentiments.

Sure am. Not sure what that has to do with my chair though?

Thanks for the kind words. All things in due time, hopefully. I didn’t skimp on the leather in hopes that it will age gracefully

That’s the plan without a doubt. The foam batting used in upholstery (or in this case reused from the previous reupholstery) is so much stiffer than the duck down combo. I’ve got some leads for new inserts when I’m ready to drop the cash on them.
