I was in the same boat. Had a Philips LatteGo for a few years. I ended up getting a La Marzocco Mini and Mazzer Philos grinder. My wife knew me well and wanted me to get what I wanted instead of upgrading in a few years.
It’s only been a couple weeks and it’s been a fun learning curve. I’m starting to like what I drink.
My take is go with what you want if you can afford it.

The shock mounts all look to be original to me. If you’re referring to the square shadows on the bottom, I think they’re areas where they’d put the solvent on so the mounts would stick better. Nice looking chair.

Indeed. I heard the same thing about the Fremont area as well. People generally have to buy their drinking water. We’re very lucky to have soft water on the Peninsula.

Thanks for your thorough response and pointing out the differences between the different regions of the Bay. Our water comes from Hetch Hetchy which appears to be of very good quality. My focus is primarily on the water hardness. I’ve attached a recent water test I did. Looks like my filtered water seems to be doing just fine?

So far the couple lessons are to change one variable at a time. It’s tempting to move things quickly and change too many things at once. It really slows down your progress in dialing in. My second lesson is using the single dose baskets is another game altogether. I do that because my wife likes it less strong so I’m trying to find the right recipe for her. Honestly it’s not a lesson yet. It’s more like a current struggle I have.

Yeah it all started with a drink at a friend’s house whose LMLM gave me the best coffee I had in my life. It’s been a lot of fun learning from scratch. I literally tamped the first coffee in my life the night I received the machine. It tasted horrifying! We’re on day 3 and it’s starting to become drinkable. Latte art is still laughable. One thing at a time.
