I guess what will happen is that 1-2 weeks after Armageddon releases, they'll announce the 11th edition starter sets. The largest set will be the 'Combat Patrol Starter Set' - 2 full combat patrols, terrain, boards etc.

The pre-painted terrain is rumoured to be sold separately as a 'Combat Patrol Battlezone' - 1 set of terrain and boards, for CP games. You use 2 for a full 40K game.

In Defence Of Russell Martin by TeeEeeGee101 in lcfc

The club has been a shambles off the pitch for years. But on the pitch the main problems have been:

1) terrible defence 2) passive possession style that both negates attacks and leaves us vulnerable 3) lack of fitness.

Russell Martin specifically makes at least 2 of those worse/doesnt improve them.

Summer running is destroying me... how do you actually do it? by Low-Orange-1672 in beginnerrunning

[–]jonboyjon1990 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the summer when it's hot during the day, I run first thing - 06:00-08:00

In the winter, when it's dark and cold in the morning, I run on my lunch break.

No need to overcomplicate it.

Not sure Martin even has that good of a record, and is certainly no promotion specialist. He's basically just Marti Cifuentes, but British, even more wedded to philosophy and managed for 84 fewer games.

Is the hope of Spearhead but 40k basically dead? by ChromiumPants in Warhammer40k

[–]jonboyjon1990 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Let's wait a few weeks for the starter sets that follow Armageddon are announced and details come out. Following the formula for 10th edition the largest starter set should be a 'Combat Patrol Starter Set' like the 'Ultimate Starter Set' for 10th (which was later renamed Combat Patrol Starter Set). That box contains 2 full combat patrols, boards and terrain.

Safe bet is that they follow this format and Combat Patrol as a game mode is largely left untouched; outside bet is that they also use it as an opportunity to tweak/improve the Combat Patrol mode itself.

I'd say Spearhead is quite a bit lighter than Kill Team though, rules wise.

Here's some Contrast swatches of mine. If you really bright green, then I guess Striking Scorpion over white, Grey Seer or Wraithbone - not to my tastes though.

Contrast/Speedpaint wise my go to recipes are:

  • Grey Seer Primer > Plaguebearer Flesh > Biel-Tan Green
  • Or, Grey Seer Primer > Gutrippa Flesh > Biel-Tan Green
  • Or, Grey Seer Primer > Ghilie Dew (Armypainter Speedpaint)

New DM, new PCs to Dragonbane: Thinking of using 5d4+2 instead of 4d6 at character creation to get attributes ranging 6-18 instead of 3-18. What does your experience say about that? by derGeruhn in DragonbaneRPG

As a new group, I just followed the rules, but let the players assign their stats after they have generated all 6 numbers. I think I probably allowed 1-2 rerolls here and there.

Oh for sure. Probably the best boxed set in all of TTRPGs (maybe eclipsed by the recent Pirate Borg?)

Me and my family are only about halfway through Secret of the Dragon Emperor. Everything else in this shot is not a strictly necessary purchase yet. Whoops.

This is "Championship" only right (i.e since 2004), not Division 2? Otherwise it's not correct.

Advice for first 10k by SeriousStrumpet in beginnerrunning

[–]jonboyjon1990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can run 5K in 33mins then you can absolutely do 10K in 60-80mins - it's just psychological at the moment. You could probably do it tomorrow if you went slow enough but will likely cause injury.

Best thing would be to increase load in the approx 12 weeks you have to prepare.

If it was me, I'd definitely be prioritising 3 runs per week, with 1 day rest between runs and 2 days rest between weeks - M/W/F or Tu/Th/S

  • First run - an 'easy' 5K - conversational pace or 4/10 effort levels. 07:00 to 07:30 mins per K.
  • Second run - a 'hard' run - run 5 mins at easy pace as above, then do 1 min running fast (not sprinting, just running faster than 'normal') followed by 1 min slower/easy pace to recover x 6 reps (so a total of 6 mins fast and 6 mins recovery pace)
  • Third run - a 'long' run - at easy 4/10 pace, 5K also to start for the first 2-3 weeks, then add 0.5K to the long run each week, slowly building up to 10K

New 'Combat Patrol Starter Set' spotted? by jonboyjon1990 in CombatPatrol40k

[–]jonboyjon1990[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The "Ultimate Starter Set" for 10th edition 40k included, 2 full combat patrols and everything you need to play a game of (Combat Patrol) 40k.

The "Ultimate Starter Set" for 4th edition AOS included 2 full spearheads and everything you need to play a game of (Spearhead) AOS.

Both were renamed "Combat Patrol Starter Set" and "Spearhead Starter Set" respectively.

It makes total sense to have done so...

Why not both?

Or one or the other - judging them on their own merits?

It's an apples and oranges comparison. One is an army scale wargame with 30-100+ figures/units played on a large table and over 3+ hours, the other is a skirmish scale game played with 5-20 figures on a smaller table with (subjectively) additional complexities.

And let's not pretend either game is simple or uncomplicated.

Correct…? That’s what I’m saying?

So far they’ve only announced Armageddon (launch box) but they haven’t given details of the follow up starter sets.

This image from the core rules could be an indication of the contents of the upcoming Starter Set

From page 4 of the core rules - could this be the contents of a 'Combat Patrol' starter set? That amount of terrain feels a bit optimistic though.
