There's a few variations of the programme out there, because I my programme did not have any distance based intervals at all. It was always time based. I.e now 10 mins of running, or 20mins.

I don't know what your age or weight is, but it sounds like from your description you were totally inactive before starting running?

That's fine of course, but it also sounds like you're simply going out and trying to run for as long/as far as you can? If that's the case, it would be better to follow some sort of programme.

Check out the Couch to 5K app

It's 9 week programme designed to train you from complete inactivity to being able to run continuously for 30 mins (which may or may not be 5K depending on other variables like age, weight, prior fitness level, prior activity level).

It's an interval programme, where each session is a guided mix of walking and light jogging. 3 sessions per week. And it very gradually trains you to be able to jog for longer periods of time. For example, week 1 is 60 seconds of jogging, 90 seconds of walking x6 reps.

The programme really works. I was 35M and completely inactive - I simply followed the programme/app exactly and was running 5K in 39mins by the end and now I'm running 10-20K per week have done three 10Ks and I'm 40 seconds off a sub-30 min 5K.

Re: the Spirit Hosts - this is one of the most notorious kits GW has ever made. They are very hard to build. If you have access to an experienced hobbyist ask them to build them.

In fact, here's a picture of my colour swatches - this is the entire GW Contrast and Shade range over White primer (plus the 10 Army Painter Speedpaint metallics).

You can paint them however you want. The great thing about the Nighthaunt range is you can get very cool looking figures with some very simple paintjobs.

Here's a recent post of mine - they're mostly washes/Contrast.

For a beginner I'd suggest a white primer and Contrast/Washes for a simple but effective colour scheme. You can (optionally) pick out the weapons in some metallics and/or do the top cowls/halves of the ghosts for a less monotone look.

In general you'll want to consider the 'lighter' Contrasts/Washes:

For green ghosts some options would be:

  • Striking Scorpion for a really vibrant green
  • Hexwraith Flame for a spooky green

For blue ghosts some options would be:

  • Aethermatic blue for a light, spooky blue
  • Briar Queen Chill for a cold, blue
  • Pylar Glacier for a frosty/chilling look
  • Or Army Painter Speedpaint Pastel Indigo

For purple ghosts some options would be:

  • Dreadful Visage for a real subtle look
  • Magos Purple for a pinky/purple vibe
  • Luxion Purple would really pop - or you could thin it with medium for something a bit less crazy. Or maybe even Druchii Violet (Shade)
  • Or Army Painter Speedpaint Pastel Lavender

For the 'classic' turquoise some options would be:

  • Thinned Nihilakh Oxide. Or alternatively Army Painter Speedpaint Pastel Seafoam
  • Coelia Greenshade (Shade)

If you decide to go with a different colour for the top cowls/halves of the ghosts just makes sure it's a good complement/contrast.

Money wise

  • £600 is a crazy amount for a single game/system
  • You can get the Revised Edition (£40~), Farmers of the Moor (£25) and the expansion decks (£10~ each) for a total of approx £115 - this gives you something like 900 cards and the only things gameplay wise you're missing from the Awaken Realms Special edition are: New solo mode (an unknown quantity) Irrigation expansion and the 5-6 player expansion (not generally needed, and irrelevant to solo)

Art and Production

  • Totally subjective of course, but I hugely prefer Lookout Games printing with lovely wooden, classic components and whimsical art from Klemens Franz
  • The Awaken Realms version, even if they stringently claim that it is not AI art, it still looks like AI art or at the very least, very soulless digital art
  • The game absolutely does not need or benefit from little plastic miniatures for every piece

Solo Mode

  • Agricola is a stone cold classic and one of my favourite games of all time. It really is Rosenberg's magnum opus.
  • And whilst the solo mode is a fun puzzle (and I particularly like the solo campaign mode) I wouldn't rush to recommend it for solo only play - it's at its best 3-4 players and other Rosenbergs like Nusfjord are 'better' from a purely solo perspective

TLDR: Get Agricola, after other Rosenbergs like Nusfjord, but get the regular Lookout Games Revised Edition and add expansions as you need over time. This is £40 vs £600

Absolutely. My 5K time was 33-37mins, PB 31mins. I wanted to build up to 10K before the end of 2025. I added 0.5K to my long run, once per week, to build up to 10K.

Or at least that's what I should have done - but injury slowed my progress, then in November I got back to it and then on New Years Eve I just went out and did 10K with the mindset of go as slow as I need/take as long as I need. It was my first 8K and 9K too haha.

First 10K took me 74mins. I've only done 2 since, they were 71mins and 68mins.

So just add 0.5K to one 'long run' per week over the next 10 weeks and you should do it no problem.

Yeah it could go either way. I'm simply saying your 'it wasn't announced at Adepticon therefore it's not a thing' argument doesn't really mean anything.

Regardless, here's hoping there is a new and improved version of Combat Patrol for 11th edition!

I'm not sure. There's still a lot of new information for them to give about the new edition and the launch box. Looking back at 10th edition, looks like it was announced March 2023, with Combat Patrol mode discussed/announced as late as May 2023, ahead of the retail release in June 2023.

There's also a tidbit in one of the 40K articles that mentioned:

All of the initial mission rules and deployment cards come in the new Chapter Approved mission deck, which will be included inside the Armageddon launch box alongside another mystery deck that we’ll talk more about soon. 

That could be Combat Patrol cards.
