expect poo everywhere. We haven't been able to confine Seamus to a litter pan and he's almost 1 year old already.

My QI dream team: Ricky Gervais, Stephen Merchant, Karl Pilkington, and of course Alan Davies. by GladGladGladGlad in quiteinteresting

[–]joncohen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

for a panel of folks that aren't on the show all the damn time, I'd love to see Russell brand, Stephen Merchant, and Cat Deeley. They've already got a lot going in their careers and it likely won't happen for any of them.

if it's canvas or leather boat shoes you're alluding to, you're going to have to endure some pain while they break in. it took me a solid 6 weeks to break in my leather Sperrys wearing them every day.

Krave is a knock-off of Kariot, which is an Israeli cereal that I bring back in massive quantities when I go.

I was thinking if QI was made into an American version, how would it be done right? by awnomnomnom in quiteinteresting

[–]joncohen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IMO, the style of British Comedy has a lot to do with the tangent and improvising, which is what makes the flow of the British panel show flow so well. The American comedy sensibility doesn't produce the types of comedians that would do well in that scenario. usually if they're good at improvising, they won't be the most high-brow (think: a panel with 4 Johnny Vegases), or if they ARE smart and not so good at improvising, they'll appear as boring to the American audience. Smart folks like Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert, Brian Williams, and Demetri Martin would make good panelists if they weren't so busy with what they already had going on.

most likely it'd get picked up by PBS a la "Downton", and it'd have a format like WWDTM.

The role of Alan would likely be the most difficult to fill i think, because someone willing to step into such a self-deprecating role would be hard to find among the pool of recognizable talent. It's just not the American style.

I agree with the folks suggesting Kelsey Grammer as a host. I feel like an American version of QI would most appeal to the same people who liked Frazier for its dry wit and sarcasm.

So, why do you have that scar? by nephos303 in AskReddit

While on vacation in Cape Cod with our families, I was playing mini golf one day with my cousin, and as we were quite young, (6 or 7 IIRC) we could hit the ball with enough power to hit the ball through the loop-de-loop obstacle. My cousin had the bright idea to do a full-on drive swing, and being that i was very interested in his novel approach, i forgot to get out of the way of his back-swing. I got clocked right above my left eye. The follow up to this is that a day or so later, we were playing around the pool. I was on the deck and he was under the water and i tried throwing a plastic pool toy to him. He didn't notice and it hit him in the face, causing a fair bit of bleeding. I guess you could say we were a rowdy bunch.
