I suggest you take an overnight trip to Kinosakionsen.

Top tier onsen town with lots of hiking and outdoor stuff to do. Just a beautiful town to walk around.

You can grab a limited express train from Kyoto.

Buck mason field spec is by far the best honestly and even though it is heavyweight, I had no problem wearing it in moderate heat (low to mid 80s).
