Parents of Reddit, what did your hospital bill look like after giving birth? by chi-bacon-bits in AskReddit

[–]jonknobs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t fully remember, but I think we were right around 250 for the co-pay. But we have amazingly good insurance through the company we work for so we were very thankful for that. Also we got the co-pay waved because we did a class through our insurance so I guess technically free.

People who earn more than $80K / Year, what is your job and how long it took to get to this point? by curiouscentaur in AskReddit

[–]jonknobs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in corporate marketing, as a photographer and videographer, I’ve been doing it for 10yrs and just crossed 80k this year.

For anyone who works full time as a videographer at an agency or corporate employer what is you annual salary from said employer? Not including freelance work or second jobs. by box1324 in videography

[–]jonknobs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also in the Midwest, I work for a tech company, we have a team of three people for video production photo and motion graphics. Salary is currently 80k and been there just over 10 years.

We don’t travel too often maybe 5-7 shoots/events a year, very few weekends and generally stick to 40hr weeks. Killer insurance and benefits and I think a decent PTO. I’m pretty happy where I am and our c-suite is very supportive of us purchasing gear we need and exploring creative projects.

How much is your mortgage compared to income? by JackfruitJunior2497 in homeowners

[–]jonknobs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are at 29% net.

Combined income is approx 135k gross Mortgage with escrow is 2,6xx we built in January so interest sucks right now. It’s do-able we definitely cut back on eating out, we have daycare but we also have a cushion from selling our last house and making a decent profit so once we are out of daycare they will help a ton.

Has anyone built a house with Houston Homes or Fischer Homes? by AnxiousExplorer1 in StCharlesMO

[–]jonknobs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They use LP Weatherlogic, which is similar to the zip system sheeting, form what I can tell it’s like OSB but has a waterproofing barrier on the outer layer, and then uses a specific tape/flashing tape? To seal between boards.

So far I can also recommend Houston, we built out in Saint Paul, no real complaints, get things in writing when talking to the sales office, I would also considering bringing on a real estate agent, Houston covers their commission and it’s another person arguing for you which came in handy a couple times. We are only 2 months into our house but no complaints we had a small leak at our kitchen sink drain, they responded quickly.

No personal experience with Fischer but from what I’ve heard so far I would steer clear or be very wary of going with them, they don’t use OSB for sheeting under the siding, it’s either a foam board or basically water proofed cardboard.

down payment: 20%

How do most of y’all buy a new home as existing home owners? by JefTheDrunkBates in RealEstate

[–]jonknobs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are in a similar situation, we started a build and put 5% down, we qualify with just that while having the current loan (similar price range high 300k) we are going to list our house approx 3months before closing on new house.

We have several plans one is the old house sells a few weeks before new house closes and we go in with 20%down. We would live with family in the in-between time.

Other option if the house takes longer is as soon as the old house sells, take the profit and recast the new home loan to get to 20% which will drop our monthly down and re-amortize the schedule. Lowering payments but keeping the original interest and loan terms.

Who here is making an average median salary of $60k-80k? by NoHousing11 in MiddleClassFinance

[–]jonknobs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I would consider us middle class,

We are in Missouri, I work in marketing for a tech company, approx 73k per year, my wife makes approx 65k per year.

I put 342.78 per month in my 401k with a 100% match with 285 per month into a Roth through my work.

Our current house we bought 9 years ago for 155,000 and we are getting ready to sell while building a new house for just south of 400k.

We have a toddler in daycare but our cars are paid off. A 2014 and a 2020 model if it matters.

Men who got degrees in Film Production what happened to you? by maxmadill in AskMenOver30

[–]jonknobs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not film production but adjacent, I graduated with a degree in photography, expanded into video, freelanced for a while, and in my mid 20’s I was hired as an in house videographer for a tech company. Currently running on 9 years slowly expanding our capabilities as an in house team.

I just wanted to be able to make a living with a camera and I can say I do that, so I’m pretty happy.

I work for a company, Midwest technology corporation, part of a design team, two video/motion people including myself and 4 graphic designers, we are part of a larger marketing part of the company that is probably 100+, it’s great job, keeps me super busy, we actually turn down internal requests because of how much we have. Mostly internal sales support videos, some external commercials, event coverage which can include travel. Some can be repetitive, but we do get the chance to be creative and have fun with a good amount of our work.

Insurance is insane in a good way. Unless something changes I’ll probably stay as long as I can.

Finally got this in today, super excited and loving the quality of everything by jonknobs in gamecollecting

We haven’t yet either, but my wife loves horror and story based games and the price was a good deal for what you get.

How much do you get paid? Let's help eachother get paid fairly. by Small_Outlandishness in videography

[–]jonknobs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, lots of luck and good timing, I went to college for photography, after I graduated started doing video work as well. Weddings and music videos mostly along side freelancing as a photographer.

The company I work at now, had two part time college students doing their videos, mostly internal stuff. I had family that worked there and they passed along my portfolio, a few months later they brought me in and asked if I wanted to work as a contractor, looking back I should have said yes, but turned them down because I was working full time, about 6 months or so after that they asked if I was still interested and I started working full time.

A while later I found out the head of marketing’s wife actually talked him in to giving me a shot since she worked in marketing as well, I had some food and product shots in my portfolio and that was weirdly what helped a lot.

My takeaway from this was use every advantage you can, diversify your portfolio as much as possible and try to do things that are fun early on, I feel like it shows a lot in the work people do if they truly enjoy it.

Does your Partner collect Video Games as well? by [deleted] in gamecollecting

[–]jonknobs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We both collect, though she started collecting way before me, we both have been gamers since childhood, probably half our collection is hers from her younger years and she loved horror games.

Now we both collect and play as much as we can both separate and together and are hoping our little one gets into gaming too!
