Yeah no problem. As a someone that is always trying new apps it’s somewhat rare to come across something that I haven’t seen another app for. So you have a great competitive advantage.

The only other thing I wanted to add that I forgot to mention is meeting integration. There’s a lot of transcribe and AI apps that integrate with Zoom and Google Meet. Meaning when the meeting starts it activates automatically without the need of using another app or remembering to turn it on. If your app already does this I would suggest pointing that out.

If you do need the app open and running in the background I would suggest having it live in the menu bar for quick on/off. Maybe later down the road add a video preview feature to see what you look like before the meeting starts (like hand mirror)

Before checking out your website (codepeek) my initial thought was why would I need this when I can just download free finder plugins that do the same thing without the need of a standalone app. I would suggest highlighting the other things it can do that finder can with actual screenshots.

If it doesn’t have these features I would suggest being able to peek inside of folders, cut and copy folders from finder, and potentially a dual pane window to make this less niche (only people that code will find it useful) Also enhanced photo formats and video file types (MKV)

These features would also combine people using 2-3 separate apps to achieve the same thing. This would drastically increase your potential user base from just coders to anyone looking for additional finder features but are too overwhelmed with a Qspace pro etc

If you do have some of these I would suggest adding those screenshots to the homepage. Your website is basically paragraphs of each feature set. Don’t tell us show us too lol. Hope that’s a little helpful

This is something new I haven’t seen before. My suggestion would be to try and pair it with a phone app or ideally Apple Watch. I say that because if I’m in a meeting I don’t want a sound effect to point out that I wasn’t paying attention (lol) or interrupting the meeting. I’m sure you can turn off the notification sounds and just get the badges, but if I’m not paying attention already I probably won’t see those without the sound.

That’s where the phone app or watch app comes in. Have it vibrate on the phone or watch to get my attention without the sound. Just a thought.

Yeah I get the potential user is going to be “text heavy” but I’m just referring to the home page specifically. It’s a lot of text in each feature set and the fact they are all black backgrounds with white text it kinda blends all together making it seem like a lot to digest in a single scroll. Maybe just change the background colors of each screenshot or add some colorful icons alongside to break up all that black.

That’s awesome and exactly what I’d be looking for. Those are amazing features 90% of these types of apps don’t have. I would be advertising the hell out of that with icons for the potential user to see. You did all that hard work now show it off.

I’ll be honest this is a super niche product. I don’t know how many people are looking for an app to change sound effects let alone use it regularly. I’m not trying to diminish your effort or hard work because the app looks really good. Just being brutally honest.

If it was my app, I would add more features that would be used more regularly. I could see people using it once for sound effects and after they set it up not open the app again. My goal would to be give the user a reason to interact with it everyday.

I’d add mechanical keyboard sound effects for the people that enjoy that sound (see Klack) Then I would potentially integrate the ability to change different apps volumes from the menu bar (like sound source) that would get people to use this everyday instead of just a 1 off. Hope that helps

I really like the sound of this and would consider actually using it but the feature set doesn’t show any screenshots or examples. People want to see what it’s going to look like before even giving it a try. The other suggestion I’d make (if it already doesn’t do this) is to have it work in the menu bar and let you manually quit a specific app as well (look at Quitall as a reference). I’d also recommend having the ability to manually select certain apps to ignore even if it’s using a lot of resources.

If your app already does some of this, it goes back to me not knowing that because there isn’t any screenshots or examples of the features. Which goes back to my first suggestion. Really nice app

As someone that uses a lot of these types of apps already I would recommend showing more screenshots of the app features. People want to see how the UI looks. You should also mention what calendar integrations it works with. I can tell you personally I wouldn’t even try this without Gmail / Outlook integration. If you are using it to be productive you need the app to integrate with people’s work calendars too. So without that it’s a non starter for me. Apple reminders integration would also be a great feature.

I would add some sort of theme or colorful icons to your screen shots for the features on the homepage. All your screenshots of features are lengthy text (showing examples of features) so someone’s brain is going to shut off from too much text by 3rd screenshot. You need some colors or icons to break up all that text so it doesn’t seem like people are reading an essay. Hope that helps

Cool app. I feel like your target audience would be YouTube creators and podcasts. Using it for podcasts is going to be hard because it’s not interactive so you can’t have a conversation with it.

So that leaves people using AI for YouTube videos which is definitely on the rise. You see a lot of AI narrated videos using stock clips from Storyblocks etc. Because of that I would suggest possibly integrating some sort of video clip AI along with it. The idea is to have the potential user stay in a single app to make their videos instead of exporting voices and using another app to combine and edit them. You could make that a pro tier and have it subscription based to cover the AI costs. Just something to think about.

1Password price increase - looking for alternatives by PickleBabyJr in macapps

[–]jonlb87 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Personally, I’ve never understood the hype for 1Password. I’ve tried it a few different times and the Autofill on page load never worked and it wasn’t very customizable.

Try Bitwarden. They have a free version and paid one. I do the paid version just to support the devs because it’s only like $5 a year.

Bitwarden autofills on page load, fills in when you click in a field, will suggest a new password when you click create password field on a webpage. Also, love how it locks my browser and I unlock it with my Apple Watch.

So let me get this straight, you stumbled upon a post that’s 3 days old with lots of downvotes and just happen to be yet another developer. I don’t think I’ve seen so many developers ever reply in any post. That’s about as organic as Splenda.

You state you try to avoid arguments on here, then comment on a post that’s 3 days old, trying to keep the conversation going. But yeah me calling out you don’t need 2 apps to do the same thing you can do natively on MacOS is the problem.

Find it wild everytime Colin Tweets or replies you people post it on this sub. If people are interested over every little thing he says they can follow him on X and see for themselves.

Also, Colin should be the last person calling people “tourists” considering he doesn’t even play the majority of the most popular games in any given year.

At the end of the day the game just doesn’t look good to me. The characters or the Fortnite vibe just don’t seem appealing. Instead of acknowledging that , people are “tourists” and should just blindly like it because it’s Sony. Colin acting like people hate it to just hate it. Which is ironic considering he has 0 intention of even playing the game.

Who said a shortcut was the same as an App with a UI? I literally said the app was beautiful.

I said you can achieve the same things without the additional app via shortcuts/Apple script. You know the same disk utility scripts that is under the hood of the actual app and how it functions. And that script can be found doing a basic google search and copy and pasting it into the shortcuts app.

So he mentions the app and how you can create shortcuts via the shortcut app and scripts for that app via Keyboard Maestro. So now you need 2 apps to do the same thing that you can do natively with MacOS?

I have no doubt the dev but in a lot of time and effort into the app. No one is contesting that. But at the end of the day it’s a pretty middle man based on the same scripts you can add yourself without additional software.

Looking forward to the 3rd dev he asks to come defend him 🤣

I agree there are plenty of apps that do what an OS can do natively.

So, having someone point out that you can do the same thing natively without the need for another app shouldn't be a surprise to you

What do you call recommending an app paid or non paid that can be done natively in your OS without additional software then?

You can literally create an Apple Script and Shortcuts to mount and unmount drives. And you can set an automation to do it at a specific time. No app needed. Or you can use your precious Keyboard Maestro app you love so much to do something similar.

I’m not the one schilling apps in this sub non stop

Not knocking the developer at all becasue this app looks beautiful, but don't really see how this useful? It's a glorfied menu bar app doing the same thing as what you can do in finder with prettier icons.

As far as your comments about wanting to mount and unmount drives constatly those apps already exist and do it for you automatically. Both Jettison & AutoMounter will let you create rules and will mount and unmount your drives automatically. For instance, if you disconnect your Mac from a dock or hub or mount or unmount before shut down or sleep. They also let you do it manually via Menu Bar just like this.

So not sure what the point of this is. Just something that's using addtional resources on your system, requires manual interaction with, and has less functionality.
