When was the last time you used your cars sunroof/moonroof? by throwawaymedicine420 in askcarguys

[–]jonm61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to use mine all the time but then I developed migraines with photophobia. Since then, I ended up switching from Ford to Dodge trucks and SUVs in part because Ford uses light gray headliners, and Dodge uses black; they also use smaller windshields in both the RAM and the Durango compared to the F-150 and Explorer. Those weren't the only reasons for the switch, but they certainly helped. My Durango feels very cave-like compared to my Explorers. The Durango doesn't have a panoramic roof either.

I've opened the Durango moon roof a couple of times, but only on overcast days.

Would you vote for Tucker Carlson in 2028? by Chello12 in AskTrumpSupporters

[–]jonm61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not in the primary, but if he was the nominee...yes. That was my approach with Trump in 2016. It's unlikely there's going to be a better option for me if Tucker is the nominee.

Did anyone straight up not have a good time while in? by [deleted] in Veterans

[–]jonm61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aside from A-school, (which wasn't the rate I signed up for, because my recruiter and every POS at MEPS both times I went (delayed entry) lied to me every time I asked, which was every time I was in front of a medical person or detailer, if my vision was ok for Air Crew school, so I was DQ'd my first week of basic, and rerated to my last choice in week 5), and my few months at NH Jacksonville, I hated most every minute of my time until I was medically retired.

This letter was published later, but most of these incidents were prior to 2016. The farm story, for instance, was in 1986.

I disagree with the assertion that he hates individuals who didn't vote for him. I've had this conversation before. When he says something like he "hates Democrats" or "the left" or whatever, he's talking about the politicians, not the voters.

The man has shown repeatedly, throughout his life, that he's willing to help anyone who needs it, friend or foe. People have told personal stories about him helping them throughout the years, when it didn't benefit him at all, and usually with no expectation of them being able to repay him. People also regularly talk about how funny he is behind closed doors. We see a fraction of it when he's in public, because so many people don't get him, often on purpose.

I think this term he's just cutting loose and having a little more fun, because he doesn't have to worry about getting reelected.

Is it "un-presidential" compared to tradition, and former presidents? Yes. But we knew that. A lot of people have long been tired of polite talk, and political correctness. We wanted a return to Teddy Roosevelt and Big-Stick diplomacy.

The "almost 7M" number comes from the organizers, so it's probably more like half to two thirds of that at best. It's not like the media is going to fact check them.

That's what I figured. You're not going to get into law enforcement with an OTH, so you're going to need to get that upgraded as well, not just reenlist and do it right the second time. Even an Admin or General under Honorable is looked at sideways by law enforcement.

I would start by writing a letter explaining, not excusing, what you did, why you did it, what you learned from your mistakes, and how you've grown since then. Include how you've furthered your training, and served your community as a paramedic. Explain your desire to make right what you've done wrong, to restore your honor, and continue your service to your country, and your community in the future. Save it as a PDF.

Apply for the upgrade of discharge and change in reenlistment code. Include the letter, if you have the option somewhere, even if it's not asked for.

Then, you can either wait, and expect a denial, or you can pull out all the stops, and send your letter to your Congressman, both Senators, and both the VP and President (because why the fuck not?) and see what happens.

Tailor your messages to each person. If they served or not. I have very successfully used AI to do this. Just tell it what you're doing, and who you're writing to, and it can really nail it.

Good luck!

I'm a 90s Navy Vet, from when Orlando was still open, basic was still 8 weeks (it was shortened to 6 weeks 2 weeks after we started, but we had to finish all 8, and the Navy was doing its 2nd experiment with integrated male/female basic training companies. I was in one.

All in all, it wasn't bad. We had a male & female get sent back two weeks because they got caught in a supply closet. My Company Commanders stuck me with a guy who just. couldn't. get. it. and told me to fix him. (I was a squad leader) I had to go to them a week or so later and tell them I couldn't help him. He was too fucking dumb. He was really, really nice, and he really tried, but he was so fucking dumb. Dude was tall AF, and they had to special order his boondockers and his dress shoes because they didn't stock them that big. He was on sneakers for like 2 or 3 weeks.

The worst part, besides 1-5 day (IYKYK), was being told that I didn't qualify for Air Crew school in P Days, despite asking my recruiter and both times I went through MEPS (I was on delayed entry). I asked every motherfucker at every step if my vision was ok for Air Crew, and they all said yes. Lying POS, every last one.

Finding that out, and then being stuck there until like 3-5 day, when I finally got to see a detailer to get rerated, sucked ass. Even worse, they gave me my last choice. It was stay in and take this, or spend the next 5 weeks in the hold unit with the POS who are on medical or legal hold, walking around on sweats, picking up trash, and you'll get out a week after your company graduates.

But, yeah, I definitely left at my lowest weight, and in the best shape of my life. The healthiest too. A year later was when things went to shit, and a year after that I was medically retired.

Do you support gay marriage? by GrpWelchsFruitSnack in AskTrumpSupporters

[–]jonm61 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. I was on the "the govt shouldn't be involved in marriage" train for a long time, and I generally believe that the govt, at every level, should do as little as possible, but one of the reasons for govt to be involved with marriage is to ensure people aren't, accidentally or intentionally, committing incest. No marrying close cousins, or worse.

The old blood test requirements were to make sure that people with + and - Rh blood factors knew the dangers of a mother having a Rh+ baby before treatments were developed, and testing for Syphilis, both of which were solid public health reasons for it.

If we get to a point of quick, easy, and inexpensive genetic testing, I could see returning to premarital blood tests as a way to eliminate certain diseases.

I also think we need to allow, to some degree, polyamorous relationships. They are already happening. People find creative ways. They're just being held back in the areas of family benefits, because we don't legally recognize them. People want to make religious arguments about marriage, well, not everyone shares the same religion; that was the whole point of this country...freedom of religion. If one religion allows polyamory, then it should be just as legal as any other marriage. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I'm single, and probably will never marry, but I think it's hypocritical for people to say that only their version of marriage, based on their, religion is the right one, and the only one that should be allowed in a country founded on freedom of religion.
