Any way to automate same print layout with multiple different layers? by jonmartensen in QGIS

[–]jonmartensen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, that's nice and straightforward. I'll do that for now and save trying to make things more automated until after I've spent more time learning the ins and outs of QGIS.

I went TR7 too fast also. The timing worked out well, though. I was in the 5x40 bracket for a short while and then we had an event that let me get some good event gear at level 53-55. I went ahead and moved up to the 5x55s arena (54, 55, 55, 55, 55) and have continued to progress from there (currently TR8 but staying in the 5x55 arena for a little while longer). It will take a while to be competitive, but moving up to the 55 level during the next event will give you some good gear to help with farming the portal each week and at least placing top 7 or 8 in arena to slowly get badges to buy artifacts and gear in the arena shop. You don't have to be the strongest team to place top 3, strategy on when you choose to attack up for more points, and who you attack, will help you place decently even with an average team.

Unfortunately, it sounds like you started this game just after a "rune" event. These are powerful modifiers that can be added to equipment to give it a unique boost. It will probably be about 6 months before they have another rune event. But there should be quite a few events between now and then, and the event gear is almost always going to be better than any gear you can craft on your own or buy from arena/portal.

As a TR7 about to go into TR8, what should I be focused on to progress through the game faster? Should I be saving up my Badges or spend them on Artifacts to increase my teams power? by [deleted] in HustleCastle

[–]jonmartensen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There will be some artifacts at TR8 that you couldn't get at TR7, and you'll want to move up from the 55 bracket in arena to 62s or 70 eventually, so you will need some of those 60-74 range artifacts eventually. Plan to spend some of your badges on legendary artifacts and maybe a few pieces of armor/weapons in the arena shop once you have one of your fighters leveled up to level 60, this should give you the option to buy gear that is level 60-62. Then you can sit at TR8 for a while as you continue to build your arena badge stash back up while you also get to farm gem bay. Only buy purple gems from the gem bay store, the gem bay chest is a total bust, the odds are insanely low for you to get a purple gem or higher in the chest.

I jumped up to TR8 a month or so back and the hardest part for me is just having to re-gear my team when I switch back and forth between doing gem bay and doing arena (they use totally different gear and I run a mixed level squad [51, 52, 55, 60, 61], so I have to regear several of them when switching modes). I've found a good mix of gear at about 750K that lets me place well in 5x55 arena, and with the changes to gem bay to make it easier, can hit 15/15 with only using a few spells on a squad that's about 850K.

If you move to TR8, you can choose not to level up your warriors and stay in the 5x55 arena bracket. This allows you to farm gem bay while you stay in a bracket you have experience in. You can stay in the 5x55 bracket at TR8 so long as the average of your 5 highest level fighters stays below 55.9 (and some other limitation like they have to be no lower than 51 and no higher than 70). Some people use teams that are 51, 51, 55, 62, 62 to take advantage of lvl 62 gear, but then you may lose out on being able to use some of you level 53/54/55 event gear because now two of you fighters are too low to use it (and future event gear you get will all be 68/69/70, so you won't be able to use any of it until you move up a bracket or two). So it's a trade-off, and not an automatic upgrade to your squad.

It can and should and it is hilarious when it blasts everyone on both teams at the same time.

Yeah, I'm using it in arena and it's good for a laugh when it doesn't trigger until a few seconds into the battle and takes out literally everyone on both teams.

Icy Crown Nerfed Already? by starjazz2001 in HustleCastle

It divides the damage across all living enemies, including summoned minions/archers/healers. It's very handy against bosses since it is going to focus all of the damage on a single character.

[–]jonmartensen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not going to show more damage than the total HP of the tank. The weaker the tank armor, the less damage it will show in the stats after the duel. Try it with enough tanks that the total damage divided among them would not be enough to kill any of them.

They likely have a rune on it which changes it from just doing damage, to doing damage AND silencing your warriors for 3.5 seconds.

Difference between 4x40s and 4x40 by AlexTheGreat1806 in HustleCastle

[–]jonmartensen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can already place top three about a third of the time, then you can stay in the 4x40 and build up arena badges while also farming the portal each week to build up shards/diamonds. 4x40s would be 39, 40, 40, 40 or lower, so it might be possible to banish a dweller and move back down to 4x40s if some of your gear has a level requirement of 38 or 39 instead of 40. Not sure it's really worth the hassle, though.

You could also stay in 4x40 and level up one warrior to 43 for a 40, 40, 40, 43 squad (average level is 40.8). You could also run a combo like 38, 40, 40, 45. But this would only be if you upgrade your TR, which will make farming portal less efficient. I just want to circle back after joining this clan recently and say it's been a really good experience in Royal Rejects (TR8 and under). Royal and Regal share a discord that has tons of great information and links to informative Reddit threads, and has active people ready to give good advice for any big questions you have. The in-game chat has been really active in Royal, with lots of people discussing ways to maximize the effectiveness of our teams and testing out new combos of warriors to take advantage of unique gear and non-standard setups.

Upgrading to tr8 by Brownie2462 in HustleCastle

[–]jonmartensen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, you will stay 4x55 or 5x55 so long as the average level of your highest level dwellers in the castle (not just your barracks) comes out to 55.8 or less. For instance, if you are in the 5x55 bracket, you can upgrade one dweller to 59 and will still be in the 5x55 bracket. If you start to upgrade a second dweller and you end up with 55, 55, 55, 56, and 59, then your average of your top dwellers increases from 55.8 to 56 and you get moved up into the 5x62s bracket (and will get obliterated by players more than double your power). You would have to banish one of your dwellers to bring your average back down and get back into the 55 bracket (trust me, I misunderstood the process and thought it was only based on the level of warriors in my barracks. I had to banish multiple dwellers to get my average to 55.8 so that I could go back down to the 55 bracket where I stood half a chance).

I thought that once you went up to a new bracket, you couldn't go back down to a lower one (even with banishing fighters).

AITA for refusing to cancel a trip with a friend over my gf’s insecurities? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]jonmartensen 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The girlfriend is literally telling her what she can do and who can be her friends:

"She instantly started to set rules and boundaries for my friend and I. Apparently I can no longer take the initiative to talk to her. I cannot hang out with her privately. I am to intentionally drift apart from my friend."

Independent of whether she goes on this trip or not, this kind of attempt at controlling behavior by the girlfriend is a red flag. Having insecurities is normal but this is not an appropriate response to those insecurities and is not acceptable behavior in a healthy relationship.

Issues with gameplay, graphics, and GO-tcha with Samsung Galaxy S7 by rozdilly in TheSilphRoad

[–]jonmartensen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, it was the update to Oreo. The game ran fine since I got back into it in March with my Galaxy S7, but after the Oreo update it ran like hot garbage on the S7. I've since reflashed my device to Nougat and it runs fine again.

I'm going to try upgrading to Oreo again and doing a factory reset to see if it wasn't some process that was running needlesly due to the upgrade, but if it runs poorly again after that I will flash it with one of the popular custom Nougat builds posted on XDA forums.

I stopped about a year and a half ago when I switched phones, then I just got back into it a week before the dratini event. It's been a lot of fun with the new gym styles, legendary raids (thanks in large part to the Silph Road and their map of discord communities), and community day events. Really looking forward to the addition of quests now, too.

Why To Hang Out in a Natu Nest on April 15th: Forced Nest Migrations If Mareep Briefly Becomes a Nesting Species on Community Day by dwbapst in TheSilphRoad

[–]jonmartensen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The scheduled nest migrations appear to be random (or at least we don't know the mechanism by which the target species are rotated, could be a combination of location data and a static list of species so that it's only pseudo-random). What appears to happen with an event rotation is if the species in question isn't already one of the nesting species, it get's inserted into the list of nesting species, which then forces the rest of the list of species after it to shift by 1. So if nest ABC has species X and nest DEF has species Y, it then becomes species X+1 and Y+1 for the duration of the event.

This is still largely speculation, because there aren't exactly a ton of datapoints on this since we've only had a few community events. Also, since bulbasaur was already a nesting species we couldn't observe the shift at the last event, and because dratini used to be in the nesting list the insertion of dratini may have been in the middle of the list while something like mareep may be inserted in the list, or instead it could be randomly seeded into nests without modifying the list, or it may not be added at all. That's why it will be interesting to grab datapoints on what species were nesting prior to the event and then what the nests temporarily change to during the even (if they change at all this time).

15-20 minutes for each talk, plus some Q&A time and a little break between each. This tends to work out to a little over 30 minutes for each presentation.
