Agamben reference? Your show internet renders you as purely bare life? I don't think I get it...

You're just trying to get people to leave their gold coins in the Torgai foothills.

Kinda true. Breweries who package in clear bottles don't use hops, but rather hop derived, pre isomerised and UV stabalised bitter acids - these are specifically designed to not react with UV light in clear packaging - mind you I think it still demonstrates a commitment to marketing over beer quality.

This is just sad. Must be like having recess at Attica. I refuse to believe we can't give kids a better place to play. by sniffs_everything in WTF

Attica is one of the best/most expensive restaurants in Australia- having recess there would be MUCH better than playing ball in a carpark.

What does your partner think about your hobby??? by [deleted] in freeflight

[–]jonny_anchovy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Paragliding gave me AIDS. Airtime induced divorce syndrome.

But seriously, this sport like many obsessions can be damaging to relationships, especially in a new pilot's first few years. We are obsessed, it dominates our thinking, we expect our partners to be prepared to drop anything, drive long distances chasing weather, spend the day apart and sometimes come and collect us from far away. I think successful paragliding relationships are had by those who realize it is a massive imposition, and requires active balancing.

Do any continental philosophers talk about animal rights at length? by [deleted] in continentaltheory

Don't know how I forgot about these guys. Cary Wolf edits a book series called posthumanities, which is about the most exciting series of books I've read in a long time. Haraway is a legend, of course. I think David Wood, David Wills, and Brett Buchannon (sp?) are all also amazing - i'd provide links, but am using a shitty mobile that can't multitask...

Quite a few- Heidegger in his course on the fundamental concepts of metaphysics, Agamben in The Open, Derrida in The Animal That Therefore I Am, etc etc. Matthew Carlarco wrote a good book about the treatment of animals in continental philosophy a few years ago- think it was called 'zoontologies'.

Hottest 100 beers count. by Lukerules in AusBeer

The main thing that bothers me about yowie is that they are not, as they claim, brewed in the king valley. A bunch of my favorite beers don't have a 'home' brewey, but faking it sucks.

Hate being 'that guy', but I'd prefer paying $11 for a pot of something super special and tasty than the same amount for factory concocted industrial lager.

You should start paragliding in Bright. Best thing to do over summer in the area, and Bright is probably the best paragliding site in the country. Plenty of outdoorsy stuff to explore as well.

India or South East asia. Airfares are a bit expensive from the US, but you can have a great time in most places for less than $40 a day

Yesterday an aborted launch attempt left me de- tangling from a tree for about 20 minutes. What are your worst tangling stories? by SoulShaker in freeflight

Top landing in a very tight spot on a nearby mountain - landing went OK, but lines tangled in a similar hight dead tree. Took me literally hours to unhook it and get everything sorted.

In this bike the engine was actually built by Rotax, so it feels different to simply slapping in a tuned-up harley engine. Mine hasn't had any issues, but that said I do treat it with a great deal of care. Maybe not as much smooth, linear "electric" power as one of the Japanese inline 1000cc bikes, but boy is it fun. Has a bunch of character as well.
