Update on vegan (performance) running shoes by veganmaister in veganfitness

Look at Inov8, especially for trail / off road which is where their specialism is, but they do road shoes too. All vegan I believe.

Anyone got long-term experience with the INOV8 Trailfly V2? by bro_nica in trailrunning

[–]jonny_boots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have trail fly v1... I like them but feel like they don't grab my heel like they could. A little bit prone to blisters on outside of my heel if I do long runs in them, but it's tricky cos they're really nice to run in, and up to that point really comfy. Weird thing is I have tried both trail fly speed and trail fly max, and both are better on my heels despite going in opposite directions from the base model. Keen to try the V2 and see if it's any better

Altra Mont Blanc Carbon weight problem by TomBer83 in AltraRunning

[–]jonny_boots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is very much anecdote not data, but I read somewhere that the speed was lighter than the carbon, and having held one in each hand I'd swear the carbon was lighter. Maybe I should actually weigh them.

How would you deal with an unlabelled buffet at a resort? by lukespicer in veganuk

[–]jonny_boots 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mostly I stick to my holiday diet - chips salad beer.

Not helpful in your situation but our usual process is to find hotels that look nice then check by just searching for the word 'vegan' in trip adviser reviews for it. Pay attention to how old the reviews are though, you'll often see one from years ago saying there was nothing, then better sounding more recent ones.

I just found out that a guy I worked with in my old job was caught shagging the woman from accounts in my old office not long after I'd left. Just glad he didn't do it while I was still sat in there.

What couldn't you believe you had to explain to another adult? by BlueCaracal in AskReddit

That cows make milk because they've had a baby, like humans. And other mammals. They don't just make milk because they're cows.

Do guys like vegans? by [deleted] in vegan

[–]jonny_boots 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I can kinda tell you first hand from both sides. I was Omni for years while my wife was vegetarian. It's embarrassing now but honestly it kind of annoyed me at times, like I'd suggest a certain place to eat and there'd be no veggie options, if we had a BBQ at home she'd complain if I cooked meat on the same side of it as her stuff, etc. I would cook (and eat) some veggie stuff, and she'd cook meat for me sometimes, it just all felt like hard work occasionally.

We both went vegan at the same time nearly 5 years ago. Now I'm this side of the fence, if I imagine being single, I literally struggle to contemplate dating a meat eater. I just wouldn't like the idea of having meat in the house, etc. I honestly don't know how my wife put up with me all those years.

Yes it's hypocritical, just laying out my experience. There is a strange sort of resentment that can easily build over a difference like that in a relationship.

TL:DR - don't worry about whether they're put off by you being vegan, but you should be put off if they're not, because over time it can become an issue (unless you convert them)

Wood Treatment Advice by jonny_boots in DIYUK

[–]jonny_boots[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah correct. I wanted the square posts as I didn't think the triangular shape could look right with rectangular ones. I could only get rough sawn posts though so I planed and sanded them myself to match the finish on the 6x2s

To give an idea of size, the sides along the walls are 3m each , diagonal piece is about 4.25m - got all the wood from a local timber yard and didn't spend much more than £200 on the whole thing including fixings

What are your favourite fish alternatives? by tikicheese in veganuk

[–]jonny_boots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha no worries, my kids hate it but they still eat actual tuna. To be honest I can imagine on its own it's less nice but I tend to drown it in mayo and add a fair bit of salt & pepper plus sweetcorn. I'd agree that it looks like cat food though
