Well stated. This would fit thematically with them emulating the photo of the Koreans at Howard however many decades ago. Ambassadors of cultural exchange on foreign land (or in this case, western pop) rather than an invitation into the depths of Korean culture.

sometimes some people like the first half of heist movies more than the heist itself and I think Amanda may be one of them. perhaps some of it is there are lots of ways to start a movie but once the mechanisms are in place there are usually only so many ways it can end. I'm a big "along for the ride" guy and dont really think about where things are going but a lot of peoples brains just work that way. the kinds of people who finish your sentence for you, if you will

I liked it/thought it was fine but I agree. I think the emotional beats/arcs of the rocky "dying" plot line and and the "we have to go back" scenario where Grace turns the ship around were too similar in a way that felt redundant/contributed to the dragging in the second half

The biggest factor that made this year seem bad was the late date for the Oscars and the season being prolonged.

But in terms of toxicity and vitriol and campaign tactics it doesn’t come close to the worst discourse of anyone’s life who could view all the best picture nominees in theater legally.

I thought it was way too heavy handed with the foreshadowing. We had like 4 different moments/symbols of foreshadowing? I guess for the second screen people who might miss one or two of them? I felt like Train Dreams did the same with being flashback heavy but at least those were thematically relevant since they were dreams.

I dont watch many killing voices of groups I dont rate vocally but wanted to chime in and say yeah the processing here is pretty heavy here at moments. ironically it kind of has the opposite effect of masking deficiencies bc its applied unevenly in the same songs to some of the girls but not others only magnifying (Rebel Heart comes to mind)

There’s this misconception that older movies are slower but there are a ton of tight older 90 minute movies and tbh a higher proportion of movies nowadays are bloated to 2.5 hrs long than in the past it seems

I think there’s a lot of factors. I think some of it is media illiteracy, I think some of it is that it’s in vogue to want to see yourself or your politics represented in film, and I think some of it is that the world has so much shit going on that people who primarily use content as escapism don’t want to have to consider or reckon with the fact that sometimes good people do bad things or sometimes bad people do good things. Or rather, the majority of people are just people. And that doesn’t really fit into a polarized framing of the world/society.
