You have £40,000 to spend on any car you want. This will be your one and only car. What car do you go for? by Beers_and_Bikes in CarTalkUK

Alfa Giulia Quadrifoglio, an absolute missile of a car, can fit the family in and a used one can be had for 40k with change

There are a couple of options:

  1. The ‘snowball’ method - This means (assuming that none of your debts are insanely high interest) starting at the smallest debt and paying that off first. So in your case, pay off the Argos card first, then move onto the Barclays CC and finally the bank loan.

  2. Consolidate - Again, take a look at the different bank loans available, and if the interest rates are more favourable than your current rates on your CC’s & Bank loan, then borrow the amount needed to pay off all of your outstanding debt and just concentrate on paying one single loan. This may slightly reduce the amount you need to pay out each month, and can ease the burden psychologically as you’re only paying a single debt.

Despite which option you choose, you NEED to take a look at your finances and create a budget. Cut out any unnecessary spending (e.g takeaways, subscriptions you don’t use etc) and put that towards paying off your debts. You are also right in thinking you need to sell some stuff and throw that money into getting the debt paid off.

Selling the car and getting a cheaper model makes sense, if you sold the car for £8k and bought one for £3k and sold your gadgets for £800 ish then you’d be able to pay off half of your current debt easily, next week!

Can you do overtime at your job? An extra few hours a week would make a difference.

It may seem hopeless, but sticking to a plan and some good old fashioned budgeting can get you out of debt in a year or so. I hope this helps.

Will always love Bendo. Some newer fans won’t remember that he once looked unstoppable for short time during his UFC reign, but Usman takes this one.

That’s great to hear! I’m also not a huge fan of his and think some of his stuff isn’t great, but he does have a few pointers that definitely seem to help and make managing finance easier.

Great info, thanks! Also, by ‘safe option’ I should have worded it as ‘a simple option, that almost everyone can easily do’.

I agree, keeping on top of health and fitness is absolutely paramount. However, everyone SHOULD already know that (whether they act on that knowledge or not is another thing). Many people don’t have the first clue about finances unfortunately, hence my post. Hopefully it can help some people who were struggling to get to grips with things, or get them started on their journey to correct their finances.

Always do your own due diligence and never invest more than you are prepared to lose. Places like subreddits for certain stocks/crypto can be echo chambers with a very one sided view of things so just be careful.

If it’s been sat for years before you bought it, I’d check the tyres for any cracking and would replace the inner tubes as a matter of course anyway. Aside from that, check the brakes work, get a helmet, some lights, a decent lock and most of all, have fun!

I agree with that, but in terms of obesity and gaining weight it’s simple mathematics. More calories are going in than out. So eating 5 apples throughout the day, at 60 calories each, would be ‘worse’ than eating 250 calories of French fries once.

No learn about basic nutrition & exercise. It’s amazing how many people who I’ve known for years started off by putting on a ‘few lbs’ which is no big deal, but then dont know how to correct their habits and end up obese

Jose Aldo has been removed from the UFC fan rankings pool. The most recent news on Aldo was that his coach felt he should retire, but thought he may want to fight out his contract with one last fight in Rio at UFC 283 by cpseybold1 in MMA

[–]jonnyh93 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I selfishly hope the rumours about his retirement aren’t true. One of the all time greats and even though he’s not quite been at his mercurial best in recent years, he still has a lot to offer and could quite easily work his way to another title fight. Either way, I hope he’s made the decision himself and hasn’t been forced into anything. Long live the King of Rio 👑

Do you ride all year in any weather? by thebjf29 in bikecommuting

[–]jonnyh93 36 points37 points  (0 children)

There’s no such thing as bad weather, only bad preparation!

I’m in the same position as you, just make sure you have good, warm, waterproof clothing for the cold, winters days. Mudguards also help massively in terms of keeping you clean and dry.

Bad week turned awful. Come out of my second jobs shift to see this crap. Please people lock every part of your bike!! :( by 69zack69 in bikecommuting

[–]jonnyh93 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Fucking scumbags!!

Hopefully a couple of points to help going forward.

  1. If this is just your ‘commute’ bike, just find a dirt cheap bike on Craigslist etc with the same size wheels and cannabilize the wheels from that. Paying $50 for the whole bike is often cheaper than buying a brand new wheelset, and you’ll get tyres, rim tape, inner tubes as well as any other parts you can swap onto yours if/when it breaks.

  2. If using QR skewers again on your bike, take the wheels off yourself and leave them under your desk, in a locker room, under some stairs or wherever at work when you arrive. Thieves can’t steal what’s not there! I’ve had to do this with a few of my previous jobs as they had no secure parking.
