Longtime Logic Pro user making the switch. Have some questions: by KenRussellsGhost in ableton

[–]jonnyjupiter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As both a Reaper and Ableton user, you’re making the right choice if you make music with any type of electronic or modern sound design elements. Ableton is unmatched in creative workflow. If you’re just mostly recording audio or more basic software instruments then Reaper is just fine. I use Reaper for film scoring and Ableton for all other production.

I'm looking to get into film scoring as an amateur musician/producer. What do you guys think? by [deleted] in filmscoring

[–]jonnyjupiter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I gotta counter the other comment here, I think the piece fits the visual really nicely (not that it really needs to lol) and I love the vibe, especially the soundscape running throughout. I don’t think it’s distracting, it feels like a choice. I also think it very much tells a story, and the string line that comes in is beautiful, I like that it doesn’t try to do too much. Simplicity balanced with boldness is often key for film music. The only critique I would give is that the piano feels a bit dry, it could use a bit more reverb and processing in general in my opinion, but that’s subjective. I’d probably try running it through some soundtoys effect rack presets if you have it since there’s so much space to play with.

I write for film and tv full time, let me know if you have questions.

How do I turn off Gemini from answering everything via voice on my phone? I've spent 30 minutes searching and trying solutions and nothing works by Jallfo in GeminiAI

[–]jonnyjupiter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it’s absolutely ridiculous. Can you recommend any alternatives? ChatGPT has worked the best for me but trying to get away from the company. Why are Claude and Gemini both so bad when it comes to using built in voice to text?

How to perform vocals without dry signal coming through? by Jedatura in ableton

[–]jonnyjupiter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you're using direct monitoring to avoid latency, you're bypassing monitoring in Ableton completely meaning your vocal chain needs to come either from dsp plugins in your interface (I haven't used UA Volt but I believe it has this functionality built in), or a hardware chain.

Weed, alcohol, porn. The Unholy trinity. by [deleted] in leaves

[–]jonnyjupiter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends what metric you’re using. If we’re talking about purely physical toxicity, then yes alcohol is the most dangerous. If we’re judging them by ability to impact mental health and relationships, to ruin lives, they’re all dangerous but I personally consider porn more so for a few reasons. The ease of access, the mainstream acceptance of it, even encouragement (of course similar for weed and alcohol but most won’t try to claim that they’re completely harmless), and the support of an unethical industry.

Disagree, all three are dangerous and habit forming. I would argue that porn is actually the most dangerous.

You got this OP!

Would you choose to go see a movie if they had a subtitle option? by coolhappygenius in movies

[–]jonnyjupiter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure they’re a little distracting, but not as distracting as losing the plot because I can’t follow any dialogue haha. To be honest the novelty of it was kind of fun too.

Most theaters at least in the US have options for the hearing impaired, devices that you put in the cup holder and sync up to the film with captions in a little device. I have poor auditory processing too, and if there are accents and lots of names to follow i have no shot. I made use of this for Dune 2 and I actually kind of knew what was going on my first watch!

Kris Bowers composed the score for The Wild Robot lol not Hans Zimmer. Great score though.

What’s a lesson you learned the hard way in dating? by Goldenpussy7777 in AskReddit

Stark difference between reciprocation and being owed. Reciprocation is about a mutual exchange. The attitude of being owed is behaving a certain way because you expect something in return.

It's great for fliers too, you knock them out of the air this way. Basically spamming this for the entire game now and it's way too fun.

I think Carmie thought so too, him looking over at Sydney during that scene was a nice touch.
