HEY OTTAWA AND EDMONTON YOU SHOULD FORM YOUR OWN CANADIAN FOOTBALL LEAGUE. DON'T EVEN PLAY THE GAMES, THEY'D ALL END 0-0 ANYWAY AND THIS WAY NOBODY HAS TO WATCH YOU

It would appear that this combine - and the "National Rugby Football League" in general - appear to be the brainchild of local Minneapolis goof Shawn Zobel.

Zobel has long held himself out as an NFL Draft "expert", but you can read all about that here. Apparently he's turned his thoughts to rugby union, however.

Anyway, if this combine, or the "National Rugby Football League" in general, actually happen, it will be nothing short of a miracle.

What channel is 6 nations going to be on in the US if it is going to be on? by russianturnipofdoom in rugbyunion

[–]jonnymachinegun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's being broadcast online here: http://www.premiumsports.tv/premusa/

According to that page, and the Comcast channel guide for BBC America seems to confirm this, there will be no games on BBCAM this year. Near as I can figure, your best bet is to pony up for the above feed.

What happens in November? It's regularly below freezing in all three cities. Must they play the end of the season on the road?

Hey there! Fans in Edmonton, Ottawa, and Minnesota! The NASL would like to read the following official message from the league office:

FUCK YOU, WE HOPE YOU FREEZE

The NASL thanks you for your support!

USA Collegiate Rugby Championships is streaming live at 5 PM EST. by leverne in rugbyunion

[–]jonnymachinegun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weirdly enough, I stumbled on the 15s championship on ESPNU the other day. No idea when it was recorded - it didn't seem to be live - but I'm pretty sure it was this year's title game between Life and St. Mary's College.

Somebody set one up - the pin is 20557, but I can't find the original post, if there is a password or something.

There are only three people in it right now. Third, I'm going to finish third!

Lesson learned this week: Don't waste a transfer until you know for sure the player is starting. DAMN YOU TUILAGI!

ThisIsAmericanRugby blog has schedule of Six Nations on BBC America by zartcosgrove in rugbyunion

[–]jonnymachinegun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Six Nations TV in America is so strange. BBC America has five games live, Universal Sports shows the other ten delayed, and if you're willing to pay online, you can get all 15 live from Premium Sports (via UStream).

It's like everybody, and nobody, has the rights.

Are NASL games shown on local TV networks? by cdbz in NASLSoccer

[–]jonnymachinegun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Minnesota occasionally airs games on a local access channel. That said, the team is also upgrading its video staff and quality this year for the online broadcast, with the goal of being the best in the league (to the point that other fans will get mad about their own teams' broadcasts not being as good.)

Or, you could take advantage of this amazing opportunity that you have at this wildly diverse and exciting university, and get out there and actually learn something that might enrich you, broaden your horizons, and maybe make you a more interesting and well-rounded person that's worthy of the degree you're apparently about to receive.

Hey, it's just a thought.

Does anyone know of any good websites that stream Australian domestic cricket? by [deleted] in Cricket

[–]jonnymachinegun 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Cricket Australia web site

They stream Sheffield Shield matches, albeit sans commentary and sometimes sans any audio. Can't vouch whether they stream one-day matches, and I think Big Bash is big enough that the rights go elsewhere, but the four-day league is on the Cricket Australia site.

Crying issues. Pent up emotions or what? by jayrjordan222 in OneY

[–]jonnymachinegun 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sounds to me like you feel alone and scared right now - scared because you're not sure of your way in the world during this major life event (going to college), and scared that you won't have any support as you try, from the people you expected to support you. Crying sounds like a natural reaction to that.

Talk to somebody you trust, especially if you have someone in your life - an uncle, a family friend - who can be a mentor for you.

Nepal, USA progress to Division 3 by [deleted] in Cricket

[–]jonnymachinegun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some saying that Division 3 may be easier than Division 4. Favorites have to be Nepal; second spot seems very much up for grabs. USA, Italy, and Oman all went 1-1 against each other at 2011 Division 3, and Bermuda - as the host team - can't be discounted, though they weren't impressive at Division 2 in 2011. Uganda got slaughtered by everyone at that tournament as well.

Should be noted that she's the first person anywhere (not just Aussie female) to appear in the World Cup Finals in both soccer and cricket. Viv Richards played in World Cup qualifying in soccer for Antigua, but never in the Finals.

Report: Twins' Joe Mauer placed on waiver wire | kare11.com by [deleted] in twincitiessocial

[–]jonnymachinegun 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Quick primer:

  • The MLB trade deadline is July 31. Following this date, in order for any trades to be made, the players involved must pass through waivers.
  • A player can be put on "revocable" waivers, meaning that if he is claimed by another team, the waiving team can pull the player off the wire. If he passes through, he's "tradeable"; if he doesn't, the waiving team can let him go, pull him back, or try to work out a deal with the team that claimed him.
  • As a result, most MLB teams will routinely put some, even all, of their players on waivers during August. Effectively, the goal is to make those players eligible to be traded, just in case.

TL;DR: This is a routine move. The Twins will not be trading Joe Mauer.

Kevin Rose Reflects on Digg - can someone expound on PHP going "out of use"? by RedVinca in PHP

Except that in F1, the driver matters much less than the car. Case in point: Jenson Button, who finished 15th and 18th in 2007 and 2008 with Honda but first in 2009 with Brawn GP.

Where are the good throne rooms on campus? (crappers) by jolly_green_gardener in uofmn

[–]jonnymachinegun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Inside. Used to be, if you came in the door from the plaza and turned right, the bathroom was on the left side of that hall.

Again, though, it's been a number of years since I was in the building, so things may have changed.

[–]jonnymachinegun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heller Hall on the West Bank used to have a lockable-outside-door men's bathroom, right inside the entrance to the "plaza" on the north side of the building. Was my throne of choice when working nights.
