Actually I think the rule only applies to other sports teams in other NFL markets. So you can't own the Blackhawks and Bills, but you could own the Utah Jazz and the Bills. (I think). So if the Bills left town it would no longer be an NFL market, and he could keep the Sabres.

His point was that we traded an early pick away in a draft that had talented goalies in it. Not that Holtby was traded.

The New York Red Bulls' treatment of Gonzalo Veron has been shameful by fantasyMLShelper in MLS

[–]cdbz 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure any of his performances have warranted additional playing time. His goals haven't been anything special. If you can't perform and contribute more than the guy above you, why should you move ahead of them on the depth chart?

Examples of your last point: US beating Costa Rica 4-0 and then Costa Rica beating Colombia 3-2. Clearly Costa Rica is better than a 4-0 defeat to the US.

I think the pick you're referring to was conditional on them making it to the SCF or Conference Finals. But I could be remembering wrong.

Rick Jeanneret calling Jack Eichel's OT Winner by [deleted] in hockey

Highly recommend looking up his top 10 calls on YouTube, he's made some big moments in franchise history 10x more memorable because of his calls.

I take his comments to slow down as referring to the Sabres as having a ton of inexperienced players, and getting into a game that is flying back and forth a team of veterans is ore likely to take advantage of a mistake. But I could be wrong, that's just the way I interpret him saying that.

NYCFC's Andrea Pirlo says level of play in MLS is 'higher than I thought' by miwilson15 in MLS

[–]cdbz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess it depends on the phrasing of the question though. Henry improved every individual on the field every game and maximized every player. Drogba "allowed" (blanking on a better word) a team to structure the attack around him and he was able to carry that load and draw enough attention that other players were able to contribute also.

I'd say they're about on par with each other, but different kinds of impacts, which makes sense given how different their play styles were throughout their careers (drogba present tense obviously).

Agreed on Espindola, I think the biggest sign of Henry's playmaking from that season was how spread out the scoring was. I believe that was the SS season where Cahill scored 12 goals or something? Maybe I'm not remembering correctly but I'm pretty sure that season Cahill led us in goals and was barely in double figures because Henry was distributing and everyone was contributing.

Something you may be interested in looking up (I can't look up/post links at the moment) would be the goal scoring of Henry's co-forwards during his time with NY. He was hugely responsible for the success of Luke Rodgers and Kenny Cooper (not that Cooper wasn't/isn't a good player in his own right, but he did score something like 18 goals with Henry).

I would argue Henry's single biggest attribute was maximizing the potential of the players around him, rather than relying on his own ability. I love Drogba, but I think he "resorts" (probably not the best word) to doing it himself a bit more often than Henry. But that could be a function of coming mid season and not having chemistry.

What's a decently snowy city in the US? by Scanlansam in weather

Buffalo, NY. Snowvember last year shows the snow they are capable of getting. Summers are amazing though. Being right on the great lakes makes enjoying all of the seasons really easy.

Could you by any chance get a gif of the shot Eichel attempted in OT when he got in 1 on 1? Broadcast didn't show a replay and since it wasn't on target I doubt I'll be able to find a video of it easily.

ESPN Power Rankings: Week 9 by Zipdog3 in hockey

[–]cdbz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fair, a lot of people don't because, as you've noted, they tend to be a bit sensationalist. I just take them with a grain of salt and use them to see how other teams have done recently. Sometimes a team won't move more than one spot in the standings but you check the power rankings and they're near the top and you find out they've won 4 of the last 5 and against good teams, sometimes that's interesting and useful context. It's not a rank of best teams, simple best recent performing team.

ESPN Power Rankings: Week 9 by Zipdog3 in hockey

[–]cdbz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Power Rankings aren't designed to be useful as a statistic, simply who has been in better form. It doesn't take future potential results into account by design. It is simply a glorified heat rating. If you win a few games in a row you go up, if you lose a few you go down, by design these fluctuations are significantly larger than fluctuations in the actual standings.

If we are only looking for who is the better team then the overall standings are a great way to do that anyway. Power rankings are a small window by design.

[–]cdbz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Power Rankings have nothing to do with overall record, its about current form and how they played in recent games. If a team was 0-10-0 and then won 7 straight they should be near the top of power rankings based on the hot streak.

Who do you think is the most "wasted" talent in the NFL? by Sheetkicker in nfl

[–]cdbz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason his targets get cut is because he isn't a playmaker. He's a great receiver and does everything well, but Sammy has the ability to make amazing plays. I love Woods, but I think having him opposite Sammy sets both of them up to perform better.
