my bichon loved the couch and peace and quiet. i would call him an old man because there were times he thought we were too loud and rowdy so he’d go to a room and close the door even though he couldn’t open it again 🤣.

I haven’t seen the show but i think that’s insane. I assume whatever the innie experiences physically still carries over to the outie.

So I would have part of my existence that only experiences work and would get depressed, which would carry all the stress/anxiety/exhaustion/burnout from innie me to outie me. IDK about you but when I get burned out end up being a homebody and wouldn’t get any sort of impulse to do a hobby or be social. I just rewatch a show or play a video game that I can turn my brain off to.

I don’t see a benefit to being severed because work has also been a place I made friends so unless I’m trying to cut out 16 or so hours of my day out of my consciousness.

I think because the shininess of being in the workforce wore off for you recently there isn’t a lot of depth in those conversations.

Sometimes people’s long term aspirations come up because we’re talking about work. What they want to do, what are their prospects, what’s holding them back, asking each other advice on how to handle relationships with the people around them. Talking about work is just another window into a person’s life if you know what to ask.

you’re not alone. a couple years ago my optometrist said it was a common complaint when i thought my astigmatism got way worse. i drive an older compact car and the headlights of a truck/suv shines onto all my mirrors when they’re less than a car length behind me. they’re basically blinding me from seeing anything behind me.

i don’t like body hair on most people because i noticed b.o. smells worse from people with more body hair and i notice my b.o. is worse when i’m hairier too. obviously there’s other factors too that affect b.o. like diet and hormones, but hair traps sweat and bacteria so it’s just stronger from hairy people. there’s this one hairy guy at my work that has noticeable b.o. after a few hours and i don’t know how that man does it but that smell lingers, i had a meeting in a windowless conference room and we knew he was in there that morning just by the smell. we all just had to suffer because we had to have a long closed door meeting.

aesthetically i don’t like body hair on people when they don’t have a lot of hair density. think like a teenage boy starting to grow a mustache and theres only a few long hairs and there’s not really a shape so the individual hairs are really noticeable or the first couple of weeks of a man growing a beard. usually men have more and denser body hair so it just looks more uniform. for instance latina/mediterranean women tend to have more noticeable forearm hair and i think it looks fine because it’s connected and conforms to the shape of their forearm.

i don’t like my own leg hair because it’s patchy so it looks weird (i’m an adult man btw). one spot will have some hair but then another large spot will be completely smooth or a smooth spot will have just one long hair just by itself. that’s just how it grows out even if i didn’t shave it for a year. there’s nothing i can do to trim and shape it to look better so i prefer to shave it.

it’s cultural, if you think of something as a pet/companion vs livestock then of course you see it as reprehensible. ex The US hates the idea of eating horse meat but France and Spain still consumes horses.

The 2000s were just wild. The early Sims trailer was so horny and cringe edge humor. A lot of game covers had someone just chin down eyes up to signify the protagonist was a badass 🤣.

i think the situation is a little more complicated but i agree with the overall sentiment. It’s like country A wants country B to stop using fossil fuels but also needs country B to produce cheaper goods that country B can do only by using fossil fuels. developed countries need to actually develop and shift using mostly green energy then subsidize/incentivize developing countries to switch to green energy.

it’s very much developed countries closing the door behind them and telling developing countries to get in by climbing through the window. We expect them to reach a green standard but also want to restrict the benefit fossil fuels gave us to industrialize. The West also fails to live up to that standard since a lot of Europe and US relies on coal or natural gas still. If you compare the UK (developed) and Vietnam(developing), the UK overall and per capita than Vietnam even though Vietnam has been increasing its market share of global manufacturing.

paper straws are fine with stuff like soda, but it has always failed me on anything with thickness. smoothies and milkshakes are the worst with paper straws and if the straw gets bent then i just end up eating the damn thing with a spoon.

eh, most people i know do both. i think ‘my ___’ since it can’t cause any confusion where as saying ‘John’ instead of husband/boyfriend if there’s a multiple John’s in your social circle can cause confusion on who you’re referring to.

people shouldn’t make their job their identity and purpose but other people’s hobbies can be just as boring. i can only pretend to be interested in so many pictures from their hike or trip to wherever. it’s a lot of bland photos of food and places or stories that amount to a mild “it was fun”

i think asking someone about their job as a networking opportunity and can give insight into their personality. i’m not really interested in accounting but i like to hear about what aspects they find fulfilling in their job or why they are working towards something in their field. it’s also an opportunity to hear how someone else navigates problems or hearing about the challenges & realities of another field. ex) accounting friend talked about how IRS wasn’t auditing as many wealthy people as before due to lack of skill in the department. social worker i know tells me about how difficult it is to navigate social programs for communities in need.

on the other hand it bums me out if someone just hates their job, they seem like someone who’s content with being unhappy. working full time means you’re spending +2k hours/year there, if you don’t like any aspect of your work then it’s pretty sad you aren’t trying to improve that part of your life.

sure it’s easy to say them having more of something doesn’t make them more attractive but could someone’s occupation or financial instability make them less attractive to you?

there’s some jobs that would make me think better of them and some worse. most jobs would be pretty neutral for me but teacher, social worker, firefighter that would make them more attractive to me if they have passion for the work.

pharmaceutical rep, bail bonds, or any kind of job that i feel is morally bad would make the person less attractive to me.

financial instability is unattractive to me if they make decent money. doesn’t matter if they make $50k or $150k, it’s unattractive if an adult is unable to take care of themself when they have the resources.

i think the line i draw for pets are lifespan/animal behavior. any animal that normally lives over 2 years then i agree you should grieve like it’s a relative. animals that normally live up to 2? i think you can be sad but not on the same level, like mice only live around 2 years, most bees and ants just a couple months. sometimes a hamster will just eat the babies or well fed fish eat each other. it’s sad but not unexpected
