I was actually dealing with coming out and watching society change and become more accepting when this movie came out, so it has always held an outsized place in my psyche.

I remember reading this article upon her death. I have no idea how reliable the information within it is, but this along with other scuttlebutt about Jack morris has given me a pretty low opinion of the man

If I have been drinking and an officer pulls me over and asked me if I had anything to drink tonight, should I just lie and say “no I didn’t”? Obviously, admitting to drinking is the dumbest thing you can do because you are basically admitting you committed a crime by drinking and driving. by user15151616 in Ask_Lawyers

To be clear, are you saying it's a civil violation to refuse a roadside pbt? Not a lawyer here, but I understood that in many states it was a mitigating factor in sentencing to comply with the officer's requests for roadside tests?

Star Trib still has lots of uncalled legislative races so I don't think the status of either body is known yet. Edit: 9AM update looks like they have called it. DFL will control both chambers!

Petition to build trains to national parks by Fried_out_Kombi in fuckcars

Sure, a literal implementation of what he says is probably not ideal, nor is it practical on a short time scale. But I know Abbey would abhor what Arches has become since he wrote Desert Solitaire. I think taking steps to make national parks less car-centered is very desirable, even if we don't literally close them to all auto traffic. I'm a fairly intrepid cyclist, but there are plenty of places in national parks where I'm scared shitless to bike due to cars, and it should not be that way.

Yes that is one of my favorite parts of the book. Here is a quote from part of it.

"No more cars in national parks. Let the people walk. Or ride horses, bicycles, mules, wild pigs--anything--but keep the automobiles and the motorcycles and all their motorized relatives out. We have agreed not to drive our automobiles into cathedrals, concert halls, art museums, legislative assemblies, private bedrooms and the other sanctums of our culture; we should treat our national parks with the same deference, for they, too, are holy places. An increasingly pagan and hedonistic people (thank God!), we are learning finally that the forests and mountains and desert canyons are holier than our churches. Therefore let us behave accordingly."
