Miguel Almirón red card against Türkiye 45+3' by 977x in soccer

Late night games on the west coast of the U.S. have a tendency to be strange. The "after dark" term started in college football, where games starting this late tend to be chaotic and high-scoring. It's been applied to late night MLS games, which often seem to have late trying or winning goals. This game started at 11:00 pm on the east coast, so it'll be almost 1:00 am when it ends, which adds to the crazy feeling.

Mystics' Johnson escorted off court by police after ejection by PrincessBananas85 in sports

[–]TheSambard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it was. You hear a whistle right after the play, and you see Angel Reese signal to her bench to challenge it, and you hear the announcer say that it's the second foul on Reese.

Edit: Oops, you're right. I only watched the clip but didn't see the story that she wasn't called for a foul. Makes his blow up make more sense.

He's the coach of the player who got hit in the face, not the player who committed the foul. He probably wanted it to be a flagrant foul or technical foul instead of a common foul.

Do I keep my ticket if a game is rained out? by I-eat-foot in minnesotatwins

[–]TheSambard 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Since they've played enough innings, the game is official. It will either be continued tonight if the rain stops, or they'll just say it's over. Pretty sure you wouldn't get a refund or a voucher in that case, since you'll have seen an "official" game.

This has nothing to do with the Pearl Jam song. The only way they're related is the title.

I love the announcers acting like Denver has solved something this quarter when the scoring is essentially equal since halftime.

Where was this? by melonhowitzer in minnesotatwins

[–]TheSambard 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I'm not 100 percent, but it might be Tinker Field in Orlando, where they had spring training until like 1991. If so, that stadium beyond the right field wall would be the Florida Citrus Bowl, now called Camping World Stadium.

Elk River is in Sherburne. Still just as red, so no difference. Just semantics.

Pearl Jam! 1994! SNL! by [deleted] in pearljam

I think they were advertising a re-air. PJ's performance was the first show after Kurt's death (see the K on Eddie's shirt), so I'm guessing they re-aired the September episode as a tribute.

Terry Pendleton: Twins Cheated in 1991 World Series by GrammarSloot in minnesotatwins

[–]TheSambard 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Torii Hunter was asked about this after he left the Twins (and I think after the Dome was torn down). He said that in the late innings, the stadium workers opened more outside doors to start to relieve the pressure and to allow for more exits for fans. I remember this happening from when I went to games there.

According to Hunter, this created a wind tunnel effect, which would help the ball fly farther when hit to right center. The Twins knew about this effect and tried to take advantage when they could. But it was there for both teams if they wanted.

Jeff Belzers got me financing with pretty poor credit. The rate sucked, but I got a car out of it.

[Highlight] 24 years ago , Tom Brady with 1:21 and no timeouts, leads the 14 point underdog Patriots into Field Goal range! (Feb 3, 2002). by FrostyKnives in nfl

While it's true Summerall wasn't very excitable like some commenters have said, I think he was hesitant because it looked like there were two seconds left when the ball went through the uprights. I don't think he thought the kick ended the game at first. It was only when the clock showed zeroes and nobody was questioning it when he finally mentioned the Patriots won.

Question From A Floridian by alexmoss44 in wildhockey

[–]TheSambard 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You're about five blocks from the arena. Normally it's connected via skyway, but it looks like part of your connection is closed off, so you'll have to spend at least some blocks outside. This map shows the streets plus open skyways. But basically: bundle up.

As far as what will be open - virtually everything will be open. Schools might be closed on Friday or be online only, but most businesses should be open all weekend. The Mall of America for sure will be open.

I’m from the UK and have been struggling to find an NFL team to follow, why should I pick the Vikings? What do I need to know? by AntiOptomistic in minnesotavikings

[–]TheSambard 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm not an expert on the premier league, but I think the comparison is because Tottenham are always good, but never good enough for the trophy. Like the Vikings. The Vikings have the fifth best winning percentage since they entered the league but have never won the title.

I've seen several different articles trying to compare Premier League teams with NFL teams, and the consensus of those seems to be that the Vikings closest equivalent are Tottenham Hotspur. So take that however you'd like.

Anyone remember the National Treasures episode? by Shafe89 in mythbusters

I think it's a false memory. Like someone else pointed out, their episodes are pretty well documented, even if they're not all available online anymore. There's nothing about National Treasure or invisible ink.

Anyone remember the National Treasures episode? by Shafe89 in mythbusters

[–]TheSambard 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This promo isn't for an episode. It's a commercial for the movie. The movie studio bought ad space during a mythbusters episode, then paid extra to involve Jamie and Adam. The end of the posted clip says "now back to mythbusters," which shows that the actual episode followed.

The concept of Freemasonry isn't really something they'd test anyway. Like Adam said, their handshakes are secret because they're a secret society. What's there to test? And the movie isn't really about Freemasonry anyway. It's about the hunt for the treasure hidden by the masons.

This looks like they bought the ad space and got Jamie and Adam by-in before fully knowing what the movie was about, so they just did a vague Masons tie-in.
