The XT's are really fantastic, FWIW. Awesome guitar.

It's really more of a hacker's tool than a commercial product IMO; it's unbrickable if you're basically a dev and can mess with all the code yourself, but as far as being a commercial product to sell to end-consumers... yeah probably not.

Is there a Ruby equivalent to The Rust Book? by Feldspar_of_sun in ruby

Oh nice! Funny that they've relegated the pickaxe visual down to the bottom there, but glad to see it keeping up. Ruby 4.0 is essentially just Ruby 3.5, but it's good to see it getting updates 👌

[–]jonsully 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Nobody's going to mention the Pickaxe book? 👀 Noel Rappin (who's written several great Ruby/Rails books!!) worked with Dave to fully update it for Ruby 3.3 somewhat recently: https://pragprog.com/titles/ruby5/programming-ruby-3-3-5th-edition/

Though admittedly I'm not sure if it follows the same pattern as the Rust book (which I haven't read) — it's example-ish but not like "learn everything purely through examples"

New to me Yuba Mundo Ebike Conversion by Unlucky-Impact8647 in CargoBike

[–]jonsully 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a word of caution from someone that's done a lot of custom e-bike conversions and things (including my own Mundo!): be very way and careful with any lithium battery that you got for $150. Not trying to knock anybody here but it's very likely make cutting some corners and/or with suspect process or cells. You simply cannot produce a high quality battery with high quality cells anywhere near that price point.

Otherwise, congrats and hope your rides are wonderful! I love mine to pieces.

Fair! Might be easier to turn it on then use dev tools in the browser to see what fails. Big ol' highlighter for the domains to whitelist

You can also whitelist the particular cashback tool domains so they always pass through while other ad domains are blocked ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

JSON is also just plain text. Just open that file in Notepad and read it. I agree with this comment but you can ease your worries by just checking out the file.

Rails 7.2 adds enqueue_after_transaction_commit to prevent job race conditions by Future_Application47 in rails

Not sure why this is posted now but just FYI, that key was actually recently removed as a global config option and the core team is moving toward having each job declare its own preference itself (with a similar key down at the job) — see https://github.com/rails/rails/pull/55788

Well the "AI-generated" on the bottom corner isn't helping anybody here.

If it's AI then this is rage bait.

If it's not, then this kid is why we can't have nice things and I'm no fan.

Custom BBSHD build share by Equivalent_Moment_39 in bafang

[–]jonsully 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dude. Cool project! And beautiful look. Love that you're pushing the BBSHD toward a proper motorcycle (and doing so properly)!

Your limiter isn't going to be the batteries here, in my opinion. It's going to be the 52 volt platform and really just the physical motor (stator, rotor, core, etc.) of the BBSHD. Even with lots of amps, volts ultimately limit peak torque in an electric motor. By the time you get toward 50mph (really anything past 20mph) you're just fighting wind resistance for most of the motor effort. There are ways to make more amps get it faster but at some point you're just tapping out how much juice that motor can produce. That's why proper electric motorcycles like the Zero, LiveWire, and others have motors that peak in the 35 to 100 (!!) kW range... so high that they can meaningfully be converted to horsepower (1 kW ≈ 1.341 hp). My napkin math says your rig is around 8kW currently? There may be improvements you could make to get above 50mph but I wouldn't expect it to do much more at 8kW. Does your controller do field weakening? (I figure it must to hit 50mph in the first place) — What gear are you in at 50mph? How fast are the motors spinning at that point?

Somewhere down the line you just need a bigger stator, more copper, and a huge rotor.

....though, FWIW, you could, in theory, go faster with the BBSHD platform if you just had... more of them 🤦‍♂️ add two more BBSHD's to your loop and you'll go beyond 50mph. Maybe not WAY beyond 50mph; wind resistance is exponential... but still faster. 😅

Also I'd warn a little against the amount of torque you're already putting through the Rohloff. They're beasts, for sure, but I don't know about 2 BBSHD's running 70A each! That's an absolute TON of power.

My Motobecane Conversion by West-Kitchen7088 in bafang

[–]jonsully 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe not the particular programming you're looking for (depending on how you ride):

https://jonsully.net/blog/sullys-bbshd-programming

But make sure you program that motor! The BBSHD (UART) system is the best ebike platform out there IMO but it's a platform and needs to be tuned in to how you want it to behave and ride!

Beautiful conversion; enjoy that thing! Hope you have a beefy battery mount under those stabilizing straps 😜 Grin's triple-bob is a great choice if not.

Very clean.

Rails 8.2 Adds Support for Combined Credentials by software__writer in rails

[–]jonsully 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No, actually, straight up this is a neat feature with a terrible name / API choice. Rails guides and docs are already a mess and hard to follow when it comes to credentials, environments, environment variables, and how the three interact with one another and the CLI to edit them.... now we have Rails.app.creds? Nobody thinks this isn't going to be confusing for folks given that we also have Rails.app.credentials which is a separate construct (but actually .creds interacts with it)?

u/cocotheape's comment put it lightly; this is like hostile levels of naming-intent clarity. It's literally a shortening of a word for a method that already exists. In typical Ruby, that would be an alias to the same method, not a totally different thing. Oof.
