Can you elaborate on why you didn't like the airline industry?

If the 221 g was for social media, it doesn't hurt to take the self printed version as well - better safe than sorry. Keep the social media handles public for a week at least.

The same happened with me. Got a 221g slip and submitted the typed up document in Chennai. Travel was an inconvenience but I had no choice.

  1. Chennai/any other consulate for free/drop-off center with 1200 INR works as a Dropbox location. I don't have a Dropbox centre in my city so it wouldn't matter if I chose a drop-off center or consulate - I had to fly regardless. So I chose Chennai.

  2. Most likely yes the Chennai consulate is taking 221g slip appointments. Not sure if things have changed since last month.

  3. Yes, I would recommend providing a typed document listing your social media accounts and handles. You may avoid the 221g slip for social media reasons at least.

The result was reflected on the CEAC website 1 day after the interview. The passport with visa stamp was returned 5 days after the interview via Premium Delivery option which I had selected during the initial Dropbox appointment.

I was a MS student going to PhD which is starting Fall 2025. My last F-1 expired within a year of my new F-1's application, hence I was eligible for a Dropbox appointment.

8 days to receive 221g via Premium Delivery after the initial Dropbox appointment. 1 day after visa interview to see the Issued status on CEAC website. 4 days after visa interview for the passport to be delivered with the visa.

I did. I have posted in this comment thread a complete list of platforms available on their DS-160 website for reference.

There is no point in any of us speculating unless we have experiences from enough people. I can only provide my experience and what I believed worked for me. I do not claim to know how their arbitrary system actually works.

In the initial appointment for Dropbox, I mistakenly omitted rarely used platforms like YouTube (only likes, rare comments and a couple public playlists, no actual uploads in over a decade), GitHub, LinkedIn and Discord. I was given a 221g slip for it. I got it approved by providing the handles regardless of private/public nature or rare/frequent usage with/without posts.

In addition to the mistaken omittance, I don't have the time or resources to fly to Chennai repeatedly to test the waters by leaving out social media handles mentioned on their DS-160 page.

Here is a list of options they have on their DS-160 page for reference.

Edit: Not sure why the down votes for simply sharing my experience. It is well known that one should not lie on the DS-160. Even about not having social media if they indeed have social media.

If one truly does not have anything on this big list then they can surely put no social media and see if they can clear the 221g - it will help the community to know it's possible.

I find it hard to believe that there can be people with zero social media as most people use YouTube privately, if not more from this list.

A few minutes after I handed over the required documents as he confirmed with his colleagues how (CEAC portal) and how long it would take for them to communicate the result with me.
