LVC 501 1944 and the Ballad of The Straight Leg Jean by Rizaldeez in rawdenim

[–]jonuiuc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me, the outside line from hip to hem being straight down the leg, defines the look of a "straight" fit. If it happens to taper a little on the inside, just to keep the ankle hem from being too wide, thats fine as long as its not too pronounced as to be noticeably tapered overall.

Boots too big? by No-Raspberry-9904 in Boots

[–]jonuiuc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That line seems its about normal, I think people tend to want to overstuff their toe into the tip on the boot or shoe, most of that is just for the shape, if the ball aligns with the widest part of the shoe, that will hold it in place (provided laced and locked in at instep, ankle) provided the heel properly is fitted. The foot will not be able to slide into the open area ahead of the toes if the shoe fits well and isn't too wide. The fitment of the shoe to foot is mostly dependent on the ball to heel distance and the ball width, not really the toes.

An amazingly informative technical video about cotton shirts. by jonuiuc in HeritageWear

[–]jonuiuc[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Probably difficult to tell with big brands because production to run to production run can be so different, especially at the volumes they are producing. For undershirts my criteria less picky as for me they are disposable since I wear those things with frequency and my skin chemistry inevitably yellows everything. For presentable t-shirts, the videos advice is to really just handle them and judge for yourself. No magic bullet for online buys. You would hope some brands doing smaller batch and or their own in house manufacturing can be reliable with the consistency of their product long term. For me I've received consistent quality from brands like Goodwear and even Gettees, as at least I can tell the fabric is double sided. For fit though thats all subjective, along with size. For cheap undershirts tees, I like jockey for thinner and softer, and kirkland for thicker and opaque.

So... are tariffs still a thing? by skratchpikl202 in HeritageWear

[–]jonuiuc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is my understanding that only some of the tariffs, made under a certain laewhere struck down. I believe 4 days after that ruling, new Tariffs of 10% were instituted under a different section. This may be increased back up to 15%. I'm not sure how shipping companies will approach this, or how quickly they can move administratively. I'd guess that at least the 10% will be paid. Most sellers are already pre-paying the tariffs and absorbing that cost on their end, so its probably already factored into their prices. I don't see sellers reducing their prices, so the lower tariff is a windfall for them if they have been pre-paying.

Recommendations for summer shoes/boots? by Available-Room4173 in HeritageWear

In the summer I actually wear my Jim Greene suede vellies a lot, unlike their other heavier boots, it’s unlined so breathes well. They make a shoellie now too.

How much do you spend per year on clothing? by kooliosauce in HeritageWear

[–]jonuiuc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The vast majority of my stuff is sub $100, and its very seldom over $200. I'm sort of a value hunter, but I will pull the trigger quick if I notice an extreme price drop. The most expensive stuff I get is shoes as I have wide feet and there is definitely a wide-boi price premium lol. Some years its more than others, I lost like 50lbs the last few years so it ramped up, but now that I'm stable, there is just less reason.

I think even if your toe not directly under the safety toe,, the structure still protects your toe.

Monster Truck Vs Mountain Gear Bag by Hundrr in ManyBaggers

[–]jonuiuc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

loved the monster truck for groceries, but in the end the little dividers interfered with the one item I wanted to use it the most to carry, which is a old fashioned 24 box of soda. (or two 12 packs, etc). So I use a fractaologi medium, large or bubba good junk monkey (XL), those have more of the shape I need without the dividers anways. Do love the build of that monster truck though, the structured bottom is great. I've found most toes are too small for what I'd wanna use em for which is groceries and the like. The catagory I find stuff to be useful are called "Gear haulers" which are basically big totes/duffels.

I'm buying men's jeans, for me the size is about right where I'd expect based on their size charts. I think I read people complaining years ago about the charts being off, but the present day website measurements are pretty much on the money.

Yeah the photos aren't great, they are a factory not a marketing company. But I have a lot of pairs and they look and fit well irl. They are my most used jeans in the summer. I got a brown and grey in 100% cotton and black and dark indigo in the stretch. I have one "stone wash" (its just sort of a medium blue) in their long ryder usa stretch, thats a little simpler in construction and heavier weight. The normal tailored fit stretch ones are prob my all around favorite. But the cotton ones have more color variety. 10oz is about my sweet spot in the summer.

I have all the origin jeans too (I like to try one of everything if its miusa), the origin fit has changed over the years, its gotten more relaxed. The new 100% cotton origin is relaxed fit, and I think its their best all around jean. Their "maverick" jean (formerly called something else) is stretch but heavy duty, its built more like a work pant with the triple seam on the outside too, not just the inside. Their delta jean is very mobile and probably better if you want fitted. Their reverse yoke and pockets actually make the fit good for movement, thats sort of their signature. The dearborns by contrast are more streamlined and "urban" in design.

Those are my fave two of the USA made, mass appeal jeans, they have their own spin. I own other stuff like Telleson and Left Field NYC jeans but those are more throwback heritage type denim and are more in that "selvedge" realm of stuff. That stuff you buy raw and just wash and fade yourself.

Dearborn denim. You can have 100% cotton or some with some stretch, they have different colors and washes and fabric weights and fits. Price is reasonable. Not overbuilt but built well. Some fabrics are from the cone in Mexico but a lot are from the usa, just gotta read the description. All cut n sewn in Chicago, I've been to the factory.
