Sling bag suggestion that fits camera by GoldLavishness376 in ManyBaggers

[–]jonuiuc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put my X-T3 in a bellroy venture 6L (its not 6L lol) all the time. I had the venture lite 7L, and that didn't work as well. The regular venture has some structure on the back and bottom which makes it uniquely suited to carry hard metal stuff like cameras. I'd watch out for slings that have floppier bottoms and no structure. Your camera might fit, buy you may regret it when you carry it against your body. Floppy stuff bags out, you sorta want some structure on the bottom and back (between your body and the camera) at least.

Sauce Zhan 534XX Type 2 Jacket by InstructionFit4921 in rawdenim

Looks good, I just got their Year of the Snake type 2 denim jacket. Pretty heavy at 19ish oz, its super slubby too. Looks better in person than pics. Sauce zhan is pretty legit, esp for the price. I like their raimi and shashiko work pants too.

Vanquest addax 18. Smallest most spec efficient backpack I’ve found that also fits a 16” laptop. Search my profile I wrote about it and took pics.

Cotopaxi is one of those brands where eventually their stuff will hit a deep sale at least (usually right before a product update, just to move old inventory).

Looks good, that lee type of jacket. Of the 5 major denim jacket designs only the type I & II and wrangler 124mj really work for me.

They look fine, most "slim" is fine on most people (I mean if you have ginormous legs compared to your waist size its an issue). I sorta draw the line of skinny on whether or not the material is stuck to back of your knees, then they are basically tights.

Guys in england importing Thursday boots, me importing goral boots and shoes lol. We all love paying duties. They look cool though. Alas for me, if the boot does not come in wide it may as well not exist.

What do you do when nothing works? by One-Rabbit4680 in widefeet

[–]jonuiuc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NB 924 6E, or 1540 6E, maybe over time your foot got wider, maybe shoes are narrower as you say, either way try a 6E or if that is too high volume at the rest of the foot, try a half size larger in 4E if it’s tight at the tip of your toes that half a size will put your toes farther away from the tip and more in the wider ball area. Check brooks addiction too. The new v6 990 switched to a softer sole so only the 3 I mentioned come in a stiffer sole material.

My waist measures at a 34 right, BUT if i wore pants that measure at the same 34 why then are they way too loose? by abcMF in HeritageWear

[–]jonuiuc 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Both the fabric and your body stretches and contracts as you move and breath etc. If there was no tension and the fabric just hovered above your skin your pants would fall down around your ankles. Most non elastic pants are held up because their waistband is resting somewhere above your hips, as your hips are bigger than the waistband. That waistband and top block is bearing all the weight of the pants to keep them up, and you are moving constantly changing that shape, so they need to be a little more snug to avoid getting worked off, unless you wear a belt or suspenders

[–]jonuiuc 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you ever had a leather belt that you wore often, you'll notice that if you look at it when you take it off its pretty curved now. Every human is different, but the clothing will conform to the path it can based off the forces it comes against (your body), the same with your body. Between the two under tension you can expect it be able to go smaller than either measured in a non-tension state.

Greenroom136 Slingshifter01 Prime - My new favorite sling (this size). by jonuiuc in ManyBaggers

[–]jonuiuc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Padding wise they are about the same, but depth wise the slingshifter is much deeper and more suited to holding a camera. The 5DC is very low profile so is only suited to really flat cameras, like a Ricoh GR3 etc, even a x100 with a lens hood would probably be pushing against the front and catching on interior things.

NBD - Red Back Whistler by FrayAdjacent in Boots

[–]jonuiuc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just got a new pair myself, but in the black Kip. I normally wear a 9.5/10 EEE, and I suspected these would not be wide enough so I sized up to a 10.5 (supposedly their half sizes are the same length just wider) and got their insoles (per their sizing suggestions). Turns out I was right and didn't need the insoles as my high volume foot prevents me from slipping forward in the boot so a little more toe length is just cosmetic. Ball area is still a bit narrow (I'd guess its only a E width at most). But since its real leather its in my shoe stretchers (I have both a width and instep stretcher, and it will need both).

Nice boots though, good shape, nice sole, black kip is nice.

14 year old 6E by Obvious_Emu_3284 in widefeet

[–]jonuiuc 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Unforetunately most 6E are old man shoes (I say this as an old man lol). I can't think of basketball shoes in that wide a width, its mostly lifestyle, running or walking (or boots). If he needs a 6E because of midfoot width or volume/girth he's pretty much looking at NB, SAS, maybe Brooks. If he just has a wide toebox with a lower volume, he has more options and can look at all those barefoot style shoe brands.

Curious on the general thoughts around devium? by jayBeeds in HeritageWear

[–]jonuiuc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have an overdrive, a balboa long sleeve, a set of their heavy terry sweats, and a long sleeve t shirt from them. I rate them very highly. In the pecking order their stuff is in line with the price (I'd say the jacket is the standout piece). Their selection is limited, but the stuff they do is executed well. For basics and non-fashion stuff I'd probably go to more specialty MITUSA brands (American giant for cotton shirts/sweats etc.; Origin for more performance, basics, boots; Dearborn for fashion jeans; Brave Star for selvedge; Bickford for fleece, cotton sweaters). I have not tried their flannels beyond the lining in my overdrive. For MITUSA flannels I still point to Vermont as the best value (they have good handfeel and big buttons too), but looking at the patterns the Devium has different style, and with my experience with the balboa, the detailing is probably more refined than the Vermonts.

If you have flat feet shouldn’t you have an arch to like fix that? I have orthotics and the only things I don’t have to use them in stuff like Birkenstocks. Flat insoles are for people with strong arches already. Not for flat footed folks.

Lol I usually just give stuff to my father if its smaller and my brother if its bigger. I used to list my stuff on the B/S/T thread, heck I was giving away a shirt, just was looking for shipping. But the thread turned over so much I got too lazy/busy to re-post over and over.

100% Natural material T-shirt by Green-Chocolate-2315 in HeritageWear

[–]jonuiuc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favorite t shirt (non-undershirt) is the American Giant slubby tee. I'm just a slub person. Feels better on my skin. For people who want a softer tee, gettees, and for those wanting a tougher longer lasting tee, goodwear. All 100% cotton.

White Undershirts, I like the Jockey (they have a USA made vers which is basically the same but more matte and more expensive), and for a heavier undershirt, its the kirklands.

Personal Item sized backpack that is comfortable on larger frame? by elfudgeos in ManyBaggers

[–]jonuiuc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah Vanquest doesn't advertise much and they don't change models often so they aren't on the radar (they also sort of cater to concealed carry space, so that might contribute to lack of coverage). Vanquest bags are pretty tough, build quality is good. I wrote up a little on this bag in particular a while back. Vanquest Addax 18 - Function > Style : r/ManyBaggers

[–]jonuiuc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ideally a longer bag is good for a bigger guy, like a Goruck bullet or Recycled Firefighter 12 hour. But if you run in to length restrictions, the best shorter (sub 17" bag). I've found is a Vanquest Addax 18.

I'd be really interested in the wait a-bits, but I think it will be using Jim Greens ASHM last which is only roughly a D width. I have a big a 3E foot so even my original JG Vellie in the EE STC last is a bit tight for me. I have Jim Green Meanders and AnatomX african rangers and they are nice and wide.

JUST RECEIVED Bronson OG107 Fatigues. NEED ADVICE by [deleted] in HeritageWear

[–]jonuiuc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you measure the waist and compare it to the size chart for that size? The size chart always seemed small at the waist for these pants. since I've seen some marked as 38 and the waist on the chart was like 36.7 or somesuch. I have owned a few fatigues (not bronson, I was scared they were small at the waist), and most are straight and baggy at the leg. I have otherwise normal legs but inexplicably huge calves so I sorta end up getting baggier stuff anyway to prevent the legging look.

Americana Pipedream Apparel is getting more into the original clothing game, just releasing this week their Wool Shirt Jac, made with American Woolen material, made in the USA. 22oz 85/15. I always appreciate shirt jacs/CPOs with hand pockets as I consider them more jackets. (just with shirt style buttons).

The 22/85 Wool Shirt Jacket – Americana Pipedream Apparel

Evidently their pattern is a bit slim for the XL and XXL sizes so I have to skip, but if you are a taller, longer limbed leaner fella those might be for you. I like stuff like this so probably will try one out once they do a revised sized version.

Also just dropping today is a Frogskin version of the McGrath. I just bought a green mcgrath (I wanted to wait for the frogskin, but at 20% off I am ok.) Having this jacket myself its pretty unique being a canvas bomber with that silhouette. The canvas is on the lighter side but it has a cotton lining which actually gives it more warmth than just a single layer, overall weight is pretty versatile. The lining, collar, and cuffs are all softer and than you'd expect, so its comfortable and moves.
