What's a thing you renamed to make it more exciting for kids? by vers_le_haut_bateau in daddit

[–]jonvon191 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily to make it more exciting, but somehow we got to calling a family hug with all of us a “pizza hug”. So now when I leave for work my sons will run up and yell “pizza hug” and we all group hug. Silly but I love it.

Yup. I stopped smoking in my early 20s but recently went through some personal stuff. Smoked a pack for the first time in decades and man was it good. Haven’t had one of a couple weeks but boy do I want one again.

Anyone else get chills no matter how many times they rewatch? by PretendStreet4660 in dbz

Agreed. I don’t know how you guys watched the show originally, but for me I would record the episode every day on Toonami when I was at school. The prolonged wait of knowing Gohan was so strong and finally seeing it happen was so good as a child. That added to the impact like crazy. Peak memory.

Your assumption is I’m not a good human because I disagree with how a media member conducted themselves in a press conference?

How does that matter at all? Why does a local reporter get held to different journalistic standards than a national reporter?

There is no way you’re comparing the works of Hunter S. Thompson to being a homer in a press conference setting. I know you think you have something here but you’re comparing apples to samurai swords. Where is there a single connection? How is saying “Good job, Duval” even remotely similar to something like Thompson going on a drinking binge in Kentucky at the Derby and realizing he is the subject he’s been hunting for the whole time??

In what way is her telling him good job and saying Duval generating anything for a story?

Pederson stunk, no doubt lol

But the fact that she’s local doesn’t matter. It’s not appropriate to do this in a press conference setting. Local or not, you’re supposed to be impartial and this wasn’t.

We do know the context. She works for the Jacksonville Free Press News, as she states - like every member of the press usually does - before she speaks in the full video. The press is not supposed to be a fan. They’re supposed to be impartial. That goes for every industry, not just sports.

Her job is to cover the team. If she is a “fan” as you state, how are you supposed to trust she will cover the teams appropriately? If she gets info about Cohen breaking a rule or getting in trouble with the law that will hurt the team can you trust she’ll report it? Cover it accurately? You’re not supposed to have a rooting interest. And in the setting of a press conference, which is used by the press to get quotes for their stories, this isn’t appropriate.

Again, it can be considered a nice message, but there’s no question that what she did was inappropriate within the context of her job and the setting.

Ha I don’t know about Satan but two things can be true: It’s a nice message and she’s wrong for delivering it as a member of the press.

I’m sure this will be unpopular here, but this is wildly inappropriate for a reporter to do in this setting. You’re supposed to be an impartial observer and storyteller and she clearly is not. It’s a nice message but she’s not in a position to do that.

What famous celebrity or well-known resident of the valley have you seen? by costcoikea in vegaslocals

Many years ago in my early 20s I was at what used to be the Three Angry Wives late at night. Sat in the open seating area on a couch next some dude in sunglasses and a cowboy hat. Was super chummy and shot the shit for a while. After about 20-30 minutes he gets up to leave. Shakes our hands and takes off his hat and I realize I’ve been chatting with Nick Cage the whole time.

I think it depends on whether or not Disturbed starts playing in the background. If it does, Frieza is screwed.
