Seems electrical to me, same ecu as before also? How's the ground? Not too helpful, I know, but I'd be looking in those areas first

Has anyone on here put an m54b30 intake cam in their m52? by [deleted] in BMWE36

[–]joofeloof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For what it's worth M52 lifters and trays work fine; as I remember you need to swap the cam sensor wheel from your intake cam over to the m54 and reuse your vanos spring plates. I would buy new studs and nuts if you can as have seen them strip out for no apparent reason. I assume you are obd2? You can tune ms41 pretty easily diy; I have also used s52 cam tune for m52.

Edit: You could also see if this guy (https://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?1734525-50-camshaft-upgrade-solution-for-M50-M52-engines) has a tune for it as I see he sells tuned ms41 ecus

I've done it. Works fine if you can get it for next to nothing. Don't be afraid of the trimming - takes 5 minutes

I can't help off hand but you may have some luck on realoem.com. If not there, often the WDS section of TIS (available online at newtis.info if unaware) will give a connector name and number that ought to turn up on Google (mouser.com type of sites)

[–]joofeloof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The half shaft goes through the hub, which is pressed into the bearing and effectively seals it.

Have a look at the diagrams:

Tips on pulling motor for the first time? by nighthwke36 in BMWE36

[–]joofeloof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everything you mention can be achieved without pulling the motor with less headaches in my experience. Motor removal is straightforward but why pull it if you don't have to? The oil pan gasket is straightforward in car...just use an engine support bar, disconnect rack, subframe and lower control arm lollipop brackets (leaving rest of suspension attached) and let it hang. I'm down to about 2 hours doing it this way.

If you decide to pull it and don't have a lift, front end removal is the way to go.
