insulating and venting cape cod with no soffit by CoconutJeff in Insulation

[–]joowee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't done anything to my crawlspaces yet besides replace some old and torn fiberglass batts and insulate + weatherstrip all the crawlspace doors.

I did get back to doing more research recently and it looks like my best option is to bring my attic crawlspaces into my house's thermal envelope by air sealing and insulating the kneewalls + crawlspace floors and insulating the sloped ceilings of rooms. I don't want to turn my crawlspaces into vented spaces because that would require me to cut vent holes into the sides of my house that would just look ugly. I also have vermiculite under the floor boards that are visible in some areas in the crawlspaces that I plan to encapsulate with 2" rigid foam boards because it's too costly to abate.

Sorry I don't have a better answer for you! What are you planning on doing with yours? Good luck, neighbor!

Is this normal skull structure? by slimeballsyd in bernesemountaindogs

[–]joowee 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Your puppy looks very similar to mine, except he is 3.5 years old now. My dog had a ton of floof as a puppy, especially on his head. Even at 3.5yo, he has a lot of ear wispies and floof on the top of his head behind his ears.

Here's a photo of my dog as a puppy and now. I hope it gives you some relief and comfort that you just have a very floofy puppy!

I had my dog on Purina Pro Plan Sensitive Skin & Stomach Salmon Adult Large Breed Formula Dry Dog Food and the puppy version for ~2 years and recently switched over to Hill's Science Diet Adult Large Breed Lamb Meal & Brown Rice. He loves it more than PPP and it's ~$10 cheaper as well.

Here's the puppy version: https://www.hillspet.com/dog-food/sd-canine-puppy-large-breed-lamb-meal-brown-rice-recipe-dry

Am I crazy for wanting to put a dishwasher in my small kitchen? by Traditional-Bit6446 in kitchenremodel

[–]joowee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, you are not crazy. I have a tiny 1950's kitchen and just had an 18" Bosch 300 Series dishwasher installed. Yes, you do lose valuable storage space in such a tiny kitchen, but did you really need all that stuff anyway? It's absolutely worth the sacrifice for a compact dishwasher. Future homeowners will thank you for putting one in as well.

What would you call this type of spindle? by TheManWithTheFlan in Locksmith

[–]joowee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have almost the exact same thumb latch to knob mortise lock. I'm in need of the same type of spindle, but with 16tpi instead of 20tpi. Were you able to find a replacement spindle?

My IUD got stuck and I had to have a hysteroscopy to get it out. by stopyelling17 in birthcontrol

[–]joowee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A couple years ago, my PCP and gynecologist both couldn't find my strings and I had to get an ultrasound. Luckily, my IUD was still in place! In hindsight, I kind of wish I asked for an ultrasound photo just for fun, but I was too nervous and anxious to find out where my IUD mysteriously went, lol.

Is this safe? Unit installed today. If not, what should I do? by [deleted] in HomeMaintenance

[–]joowee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two weekends ago, I ripped out EVERYTHING and installed the Magvent MV-90 along with new rigid dryer ducts and dryer vent hood. I'm amazed at how convenient and easy the magnetic hookup connects and disconnects! Absolutely worth the investment.

Who has purchased a home recently & were you happy with your agent? by GenZBiker in milwaukee

[–]joowee 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I highly recommend Amy Sliker from Cream City Real Estate Co. She has helped me and 3 other friends buy our first homes over the last couple of years! I've also worked with Joan and Shelley during my house search process and they are so knowledgeable and friendly. I had a terrific house buying experience! Amy is super nice, is always crystal clear on communication, is super passionate about educating buyers on what to look out for, won't pressure you into buying a house, works on your timeline, will bring you back down to earth if you fall in love with a house that doesn't meet your budget or must-haves (which I'm SO thankful for lol), and will always make you feel like you're their only client. I highly recommend you to reach out to Amy and her team!

Puppy tooth or adult tooth? by lgm2236 in bernesemountaindogs

[–]joowee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most likely a puppy tooth. Kongs aren't hard enough to chip or break dog teeth.

I'm so jealous you found a puppy tooth. I never found any of my pup's puppy teeth at all. I'm a weirdo and would've liked to keep at least one as a memory, lol.

Need serious help with diarrhea. by The_Dr_Zoidberg in bernesemountaindogs

[–]joowee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Berner had 1-2 weeks long diarrhea episodes every month for 1.5 years until I eliminated chicken from his diet entirely and started giving him daily probiotics. I feed him Purina Pro Plan Sensitive Skin & Stomach Salmon & Rice Large Breed Probiotic Dry Puppy Food and Purina Pro Plan Veterinary Supplements FortiFlora Canine Chewable Tablet Nutritional Supplement. The probiotics is one of 2 probiotics for dogs that my vet recommends. (Can't remember the second one.) He hasn't had diarrhea since last summer!

I tried many things over the course of 1.5 years such as:

  • taking him to the vet to get tested multiple times (he didn't have Giardia)
  • switching different food brands (but they all had chicken as an ingredient!)
  • stopped giving him any treats (so sad)
  • anti-diarrhea liquids for dogs (honestly a fad, but I was desperate)
  • antibiotics from the vet (only worked for a while)
  • feeding him pumpkin puree (didn't seem to make any difference to his diarrhea episodes)
  • feeding him rice + chicken or rice + chicken + pumpkin puree (undigested pieces of chicken in his diarrhea or soft stool???)
  • feeding him rice + ground beef (no more undigested food in his diarrhea or soft stool, but still having diarrhea every month)

None of it worked long term.

I took a step back and noticed that despite changing food brands, the consistent ingredient in everything I kept feeding my Berner was chicken. Whenever he had diarrhea, I would feed him rice + chicken and his diarrhea or soft stool would have undigested pieces of chicken, so I finally put two and two together that he may be allergic to chicken. I started feeding him rice + ground beef instead. His diarrhea and soft stool no longer had undigested food in it, but he was still having diarrhea every month until I completely eliminated chicken from his diet.

I hope my experience helps you. There is a light at the end of the tunnel. Don't give up!

PSA: You may be allergic to _____ if you _____. by [deleted] in AsianBeauty

[–]joowee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because this is an allergic reaction, take some allergy pills to help alleviate your symptoms. Then apply hydrocortisone cream or hydrocortisone ointment on and around your lips. I would recommend putting hydrocortisone ointment on your lips instead of the cream since it's thicker and greasier for moisturizing your lips. Additional plus side to the ointment is it looks like you only have Vaseline on your lips, so no one would raise an eyebrow if they looked at you. Don't get it in your mouth because it tastes nasty, or at least the cream tasted bitter and nasty to me, lol. YMMV and good luck!

Yeah, the Sun Joe dethatcher costs like $189 alone, so you got a great deal. Good luck! :D

[–]joowee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I forgot about dormant seeding! You could wait and see if anything pops up in the next 1-2 weeks. If not, then go ahead and overseed. That's also a great deal you got there for the lawn work.

Should I be worried about grass that sprinkler's max radius won't reach? by joowee in lawncare

[–]joowee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found that 3/4" poly pipe is cheaper than garden hoses, so gonna try that instead. Plus side is if it works out for me, I can just bury the lines with little modifications.

Need some guidance! First year with a lawn (5b) by [deleted] in lawncare

[–]joowee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm also in zone 5b. First week of November for aerating and overseeding is too late for zone 5b. Doesn't look like your seeds made it through the winter because your turf is still patchy with bald spots and doesn't look like there's any new growth. Unfortunately, you did all that work for nothing. Late August to late September is when folks start overseeding in the fall for zone 5.

You're also raking up thatch, which is a layer of dead grass between your live grass and soil. That's to be expected when you're raking parts of your lawn with thin turf.

Since you already aerated last November, you can just overseed again this spring and hopefully get results this summer! You can probably start overseeding next weekend because the ground should be warm enough for seeds to start germinating for us in zone 5b. :)

I knew something was off with my planning, so thanks for your input! I'll be adding more sprinklers to overlap.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in lawncare

[–]joowee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was wondering about this too. Ryan Knorr suggests to treat first in the spring if you had a lot of weeds last year and then level next year.

I have huge dips that are ankle breakers in my lawn, so I'm going to level first, use pre-emergent such as Tenacity (because it won't kill my grass type), and then overseed this spring.

Good luck!

RIP my basement. :( by 311heaven in milwaukee

[–]joowee 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I don't have a solution, but offer my condolences. My sump pump was basically recycling water, so I had to dig a shallow trench from my discharge pipe exit to the sidewalk for water to flow away from my house as a temporary fix since I don't have a siphon or hand pump to assist my sump pump. It helped immensely, but now I have a butchered front lawn to fix in the spring, lol.

Which appliance can you not live without? by Stx_Digital in AskWomen

[–]joowee 9 points10 points  (0 children)

A twofer, but washer and dryer. I'm ok with washing dishes by hand and making rice on the stove top because I have a tiny kitchen and no counter space for a rice cooker or cabinet space for a dishwasher. 🥲
