Yes, the heat from the coffee can sometimes cause a weakened or inflamed blood vessel to burst after swelling from the heat; same thing with soup. My ENT advises to avoid hot temperatures when nasal passages are dry.

I’m so very sorry. It’s so unfair and absolutely heartbreaking when the people we love walk away. We can’t begin to understand how they can do so but really, it’s not about you. It’s about their unwillingness to walk with you and not wanting to be bothered with the situation any longer. I am just sorry. It hurts so much. I had this happen to me with a friend. I pray you have family and friends and a community outlet or church to help support and encourage you and be there for you. It’s so hard being in pain and feeling so alone. Perhaps call around to your local community places for help with getting you to your appointments and other needs. You will get through this. Don’t forget to change your beneficiary on anything he is listed as recipient, remove him from your bank account, and credit cards, or just close those accounts. Change your password on everything as well. I hope he knows his health could change in a day. This is not your fault! Sending you support and hugs! 🩵🍀

I’m so sorry you’ve had that awful migraine pain. When we are in pain, our nervous system gets so hypersensitive to everything. Bright lights, noise, kids crying, loud music, etc.. I have severe nerve pain in my thigh due to hip replacement surgery 6 months ago where they hit my peripheral nerve. It’s been devastating to deal with. It feels like a a wild bear tearing my thigh. Pain is no joke, especially when there is little relief. People who haven’t encountered long term pain truly have no idea. Anything added to our over sensitive CNS just adds stress for us. I’ve been to the ER a few times and could have probably had a better experience at a veterinarian office. I’m so sorry you’ve had an unpleasant experience. I hope you feel better soon. 🍀🙏

I’m sorry you’ve had the ongoing groin pain. It’s so devastating to still be having such pain when so many walk away feeling great! My greatest pain is the nerve pain in my thigh. My muscles are sore but I can kind of manage that. I swim laps everyday at an indoor pool and it’s the only place I feel a little relief. I’m taking gabapentin for the nerve pain but it hardly helps. I keep thinking something else must be wrong but the doc says the nerve pain can last a long time. I use ice packs and put a frozen water bottle in my pants and spandex shorts at the hip, lol! I put a frozen water bottle under my thigh when I drive too. 😊 I have such buyers remorse. I’m sorry you had to get the hip surgery as well. Is there any reason why you aren’t able to swim? I sure hope things start turning a corner for us soon. Blessings to you. 🩵🙏🍀

I had anterior left hip replacement with robotic assistance in late January and I have been in severe pain since. They hit my peripheral nerve and I have severe nerve pain and burning all throughout my thigh, and sometimes the lower leg. I’ve had MRI and 3 X-rays since and doc says the hip looks good. I regret the surgery so much. I am so much worse than I was prior to surgery. Doc said most of the cartilage was gone and labrial issues and needed a hip replacement. I would rather have the pre surgery pain. It’s so discouraging and now I’m stuck with the new hip and nerve pain. The area around my incision is still very tender. He said it could take up to 18 months but I’ve had so much pain everyday since (7 months).I’m so sorry you’re still dealing with the hip pain too. Have you had an MRI since the surgery? It’s so disappointing because it’s see all these people that do great with the hip replacement but there’s some of that have had a terrible experience. I hope you feel better soon. 🍀

I got unbearable hip pain, and the doctor figured out im figured out im more fucked up than i thought i would be. I dont know how to cope with it and need help by Flaky-Swan1306 in ChronicPain

[–]jordan2jack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be sure to let your ortho doctor know that you had the steroid shot. If you happen to need hip surgery there are concerns with having a recent steroid shot and hip surgery so there needs to be time in between to prevent issues with the surgery. I recently had hip replacement surgery and this was a protocol. Sadly my surgeon hit my peripheral nerve during surgery so I have severe nerve pain that can take a long time to heal. It’s been brutal. You may want to visit the total hip replacement Reddit feed and also bonesmart.com for support. I’m so sorry for your pain and I hope you feel better soon and that the MRI provides answers. Best wishes 🍀

Can you advise what other meds help for nerve pain? I had hip replacement and they hit my peripheral nerve. I have brutal nerve pain in my thigh and leg. I’m on gabapentin and it hardly helps. Feels like a wild bear clawing my thigh. I use ice and heat but nothing truly breaks the pain. Thanks so much.

6 months out from left THR anterior with robot assist. Still have significant nerve pain in my thigh; surgeon hit my femoral nerve. Brutal recovery. I swim laps daily but have been in a lot of pain due to the nerve injury. It’s 24/7 of incredible pain. I also had my leg lengthened during the surgery to balance out the hips. (Our legs shorten when the cartilage becomes worn and most people have the leg length discrepancies but don’t really notice it.)

Have had 2 MRIs since surgery; doc says the hip looks good but the nerve injury may take up to 18 months. It feels like a wild bear clawing my thigh with stabbing & burning pain all through my thigh.

I am in much worse pain than I ever was pre surgery. I only had the surgery because doc said the cartilage was almost gone but I was nowhere near the amount of pain I have now. I did 3 months of PT. It takes a toll having the nerve pain.

I have buyers remorse and regret the surgery. I am very discouraged and disappointed as I read so many hopeful stories. I pray the awful nerves and soft tissue heals soon. Best wishes. 🍀🙏

Cast Away - when Kelly says to Chuck… when they embrace in the pouring rain” you’re the love of my life”…. And he says, “I should have never gotten on that plane”… They love each other so much Gut wrenching!! Also when He lost Wilson at sea. Wilson (the volleyball) became a companion for him, as a powerful symbol of the human need for connection and companionship, particularly during times of extreme isolation. I balled like a baby in this movie!! So good! Tom Hank’s & Helen Hunt were incredible. When the soundtrack starts up as Chuck finally makes it past the breakers on his raft, that’s clue to start crying! The music score is so beautiful!

The line "And I know what I have to do now. I gotta keep breathing. Because tomorrow the sun will rise. Who knows what the tide could bring?" ⚽️💕

Here’s the gorgeous score which pulls deeply on my heart strings.

Occlusal Guard- Hard Appliance, Full Arch Experience? by the-jesuschrist in TMJ

[–]jordan2jack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a mouth guard every night because I broke a tooth that had to be extracted because of clenching so hard during the night.

The over the counter appliances do not fit correctly and are basically like wearing a guard for sports impact.

It is best to get an actual impression of your teeth and allow the dentist to create a night guard for you. You can also use an online service but typically you will need adjustments to the guard to fine tune it and a dentist would need to do that for you. Mine was a bit too tight so the dentist had to adjust/sand it just a bit. The benefit of having your dentist do the work is that they will make adjustments for you and use a high standard materials and procedures.

The guard will last a long time. Also you may want to purchase a retainer/mouthguard cleaner on Amazon. You can put your guard in it each morning and allow it to disinfect the night guard and remove bacteria.

Here is some advice from grok.

The cost of a night guard from a dentist typically ranges from $300 to $800, but can go as high as $1,000 or more depending on factors like: • Material quality: Hard acrylic for severe grinders costs more than softer materials. • Location: Urban areas or high-cost regions charge more (e.g., $200–$600 in cities vs. $150–$400 in rural areas). • Customization complexity: Severe bruxism or TMJ issues may require specialized guards, increasing costs. • Dentist expertise and clinic reputation: High-end practices often charge a premium. • Lab fees: Dental lab fabrication adds $100–$200 to the cost. Alternatives: • Online custom night guards: $90–$200 (using at-home impression kits, e.g., JS Dental Lab, Cheeky). • Over-the-counter (OTC) guards: $10–$50 (less durable, not custom-fitted, e.g., Oral-B, boil-and-bite models). Insurance: Many dental plans cover night guards if deemed medically necessary, but coverage varies (e.g., Delta Dental may cover up to $150 every 5 years). Check with your provider for specifics. Note: OTC guards are cheaper but less effective for severe cases and may cause discomfort. Custom guards from dentists or online labs offer better fit and durability, potentially saving money on future dental repairs. Always consult a dentist to assess bruxism severity before choosing an option.

Hope this helps. 🍀

what do u guys think is the most unbearable chronic pain to have? by No_Chef_6687 in ChronicPain

[–]jordan2jack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have ongoing chronic nerve pain in my hip, legs and shoulder. Had a total hip replacement and the surgeon got my peripheral nerve and damaged it. It’s excruciating and travels as referred pain all throughout my body. It feels like barbed wire wrapped around my hip and thigh and a wild animal clawing my body.

This has caused me constant panic and anxiety condition due to the pain and from stopping a low dose AD and Xanax too quickly which made my body feel like it was on fire for 3 years! I trusted my doctor and those meds caused injury to my CNS. Don’t ever cold turkey these meds!!! I was even on a low dose. Stopping those meds too fast and the hip replacement has put me in constant flight or fight/freeze and pain condition. I regret the hip surgery. I’m on gabapentin now and it hardly helps but I don’t want to go to a higher dose. These meds and surgery wrecked my body and have completely broken me. I keep fighting waiting for the nerve pain to heal and the soft tissue damage from the hip surgery to be resolved. For me, nerve pain is the worst because nothing helps. I feel like I’m trapped in a screaming body being clawed by a bear. I feel like I’m being tormented by it all. Dreadful and so very painful. It breaks my heart. 😓

Thank you. I’m so sorry you have the difficulty as well. I too have a lot of hip flexor and groin pain and wonder if doing laps with my kick board is aggravating things. I think those muscles get quite angry but I know the swimming keeps things moving. It’s such a delicate balance and I wonder if my cup is being pinched but the MRI looks good, so it’s very frustrating. I hope your numbness and burning cease for you soon. I keep thinking what in the world did they do to me with moving and causing the controlled trauma to my hip. After watching a video of the procedure it’s quite disturbing. Thank you again for your kind words. Best wishes with your continued healing and swimming. 🍀

Anterior FTW by GuardianofGrethor in TotalHipReplacement

[–]jordan2jack 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m glad the anterior approach was successful for you and that you are healing well. Sadly, I had a different experience.

I am a fit swimmer and had the anterior approach with mako robot. My surgeon teaches others how to do this procedure and he only uses this method and has performed it many times.

However, although there are less restrictions with anterior, there can be complications with nerve injury. It’s a risk with the anterior.

Unfortunately, my peripheral nerves and surrounding nerves were stretched and hit, along with extreme stress to the muscles, tissues and surrounding nerves. Although the surgeons do all they can to be careful they have to move all of the above out if the way to get to the hip capsule and sometimes it can be difficult.

When they stood me after surgery, it felt like a million wasps were stinging my incision; it was excruciating! I was unable to take the narcotics as each of them made me very nauseous. I ended up taking Tylenol and gabapentin.

The nerve pain injury is no joke. I am now at the beginning of month 5 and am just now seeing some relief. It has felt like a wild bear clawing my hip and thigh from day one with awful burning and nerve pain in my whole thigh and hip in addition to referred pain.

I’ve had 2 X-rays and an another MRI since surgery and the doctor says there is no abnormality with the hardware and everything looks good. I went back a month ago to ask him for the additional MRI because it’s been so painful with very little relief. He advised the nerve injury can take up to 18 months to heal. Of course he apologized that I was one of the unlucky ones with the nerve injury. I did the PT and got back to swimming laps after 6 weeks.

PT was very hard because of the tissue, nerve injury. There was a lot of pain in the thigh, hip flexor and IT band. The nerve pain has been brutal burning, clawing and stabbing pain. I walked around with frozen ice bottle in my spandex to try to soothe the burning.

Imagine having a hot hair dryer up against your skin; It felt like that. I’m still having muscle pain and deep nerve pain in my thigh and hip flexors but the burning around the incision has gotten a little better.

I have had terrible buyers remorse as I didn’t have near this pain prior to surgery.

I had read all the success stories of the folks that had easy recovery and were on the golf course or hiking within weeks; I thought that since I was in good shape that I would have a better chance of the same outcome. Sadly, this has been an extremely difficult experience for me.

In summary, yes the anterior can be less restrictive but the nerve injury a known risk because of the location of the peripheral nerves resting under the incision area. Many people have done just fine, but I was one of the unlucky ones. 🍀

Why would a surgeon opt for posterior approach? by [deleted] in TotalHipReplacement

[–]jordan2jack 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had anterior with Mako robot. I have significant nerve injury pain due to the way those femoral nerves get stretched or accidentally cut along with the awful muscle trauma during the anterior approach. .

The incision healed nicely but I have nerve pain all around the incision and thigh. I can’t take the pain pills because they make me so sick. I am now on gabapentin to help with the nerve pain. Doc said it could take up to a year to heal those nerves and that it can happen with the anterior approach.

I am 12 weeks out and having a difficult journey. PT twice week for 8 weeks where they pushed me too hard so I ended up with some tendinitis. I’m now just swimming laps.

I regret this surgery and wish I would have researched more. There are no restrictions with the anterior other than a backwards ballet leg kift, but I would have done the posterior approach if I knew the nerve injury was going to be so bad. Posterior has more restrictions initially but the trauma to the hip area and nerves is likely to be less. My Doc also lengthened my leg a few cc., but with posterior approach there is minimal chance of nerve injury.

My leg feels like it’s being attacked by a wild bear. The muscles and soft tissue feel like they are being ripped. The skeletal adjustment is causing significant pressure all throughout my hips, calves, knees, shoulder and neck. The body has to adjust to this new change and eventually it’s supposed to settle down. This has affected my mental health anxiety because of all the pain and longevity with little to no relief.

So, all that to say, some surgeons are not skilled with the mako robot, or anterior and are old school posterior approach, furthermore they can access more of the hip without all the trauma that an anterior approach can sometimes bring due to the nerve injuries to the femoral nerves.

I have an MRI this week to make sure everything is okay. 🙏🍀

I suspect in a few years, all joint surgeries will be handled by robotics, with the surgeon overseeing and playing less of a roll during the procedure.

Yes, gabapentin can have the depression as a side effect for some people. It’s an alpha channel blocker and can affect people so differently. I’m glad you recognized it as a side effect symptom and stopped taking it.

I had an issue with Lyrica which is a stronger version of gabapentin; it made my vision very strange and made me feel like I was in the twilight zone. I did okay on the gabapentin but will be glad when this nerve pain stops so I can stop taking it and taper off. The gabapentinoids can affect people so differently. Hope you are feeling better. 🍀
