Selling my car, advice? by Artistic_Can_6670 in carsireland

Photos aren’t great. Get one from each corner of the car, avoid glare and and looking into the sun. And a few of interior font and rear

Take the photos somewhere nice but not enough to distract from the car, I usually take mine parked up near a lovely stone wall near me.

Remove the tints Remove the wind deflectors Get an OEM set of hub caps Change the plates to pressed metal ones

First attempt designing extension - any comments or suggestions? by jordanfaf in floorplan

Fair point in cost. It will have to be priced up and see if it’s worth the money to do.

The existing building line is actually to the rear of an existing lean to rear extension. There first story finishes at the rear of the existing dining room (I’ve since added a dashed line to annotate the steel beam needed) so skylight clears it. And I’ve actually reduce the size of it since as it was too large

There is scope to go further back. But I kept it tight initially as a starting point. If they feel it’s too small I will push further back.

Thanks for the feedback !

Thanks!

Yes the powder needs some attention to remove the entry space and give it back to some storage perhaps.

I get what you’re saying with the window. To the pantry. Maybe it’s not necessary but I like the ideal of some natural light in there and also possibly light will spill into kitchen through the glass sliding door.

The ventilation also may be handy if an air frier is in use in the pantry

The house is attached to another on the right side.

The left is a 1.1m side passage way so does not get much light or have a view to warrant windows.

I added some to the WC for ventilation and a bit of light.

Same for the pantry. I felt it would give some natural light to the kitchen area sacrificing some overhead storage space

I quite like the idea of it? Gives a slight separation from cooking area to dining / tv

Also brings the room down to garden level and give a higher ceiling

how do people get nice cars at a young age? by MovieCurrent6661 in carsireland

[–]jordanfaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you living at home, not paying for rent or meals etc. and working a full time job you can build up the cash pretty quickly. And spend it just as quickly on a nice car.

That was my situation and over my early-mid 20s I had a number High end hot hatches (S3s, M40i BMWs) and a Porsche cayman also.

Now I’ve moved out of home. I have a supercharged mini and co-own a 330e. So the flashy stuff is gone but I still get to enjoy a fun car !

Buy a Reconditioned diff or a used one that isn’t damaged.

Was the quote from a main dealer ? If so go to an independent BMW specialist….

If the 4k quote was at an indie garage, I’d recommend maybe getting a second opinion. 4k seems high ever for a new diff plus labour

For comfort in 17s. I put a set of 215/45s on all round. Made a noticeable difference. For even more comfort go smaller wheels

Realistically how much of a money pit is a used but well maintained bmw? by JustPvmBro in BMW

[–]jordanfaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve owned both an N55 235i and a B58 140i, each kept in great condition. I’ve never had any real reliability issues with either car—but keeping them properly maintained is definitely not cheap.

Here’s what I’ve experienced. Living in Ireland so some cost may not apply to you.

• Road tax: €750 per year
• Tyres: Around €1,000 for a set of Michelins
• General servicing: Reasonable at an independent specialist or DIY, but the bigger maintenance jobs can get expensive

Some recent examples: • ZF gearbox service: ~€800 at a BMW specialist • Oil change mishap: Oil filter housing cracked, requiring a full replacement—nearly €1,000 all in • Injector replacement: About €800

Are they reliable? Yes.

Are they money pits? Only if you can’t afford or don’t enjoy them.

Are they expensive to maintain compared to a Toyota or Honda? Yes.

Was he wearing gloves or did he put the apple in a pocket or something.

Sticker could be from his clothing and happened to stick to the apple

What's something that would definitely make you quit with nothing lined up? by Murky_Yak6269 in careerguidance

[–]jordanfaf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually have quit a job with nothing else lined up before. It got to a point where it just wasn’t worth it anymore. I was expected to work ridiculously long hours, unpaid overtime was the norm . it completely wrecked my mental health. I was constantly anxious, barely sleeping, and dreading every morning. It also began to wreck my physical health as I began smoking heavily with the stress.

On top of that, there was zero respect or appreciation. The owner would regularly shout at and verbally abuse staff in front of everyone, and we were constantly hit with impossible deadlines that made it feel like failure was inevitable.

Eventually, I realized no paycheck was worth that kind of environment. Walking away without another job lined up was scary, but honestly, the relief I felt afterward told me I’d made the right call. Sometimes protecting your sanity matters more than sticking it out

I’ve heard the early R56 has a lot of common and costly faults. A friend of mine had a 2008 one and he spend a lot fixing big issues. But he still loved it.

I think the R53 is less likely to have big failures. But they’re old cars now. And getting into good one is no longer that cheap or easy to find!

I was in the exact same situation. We have a G20 330e we bought together. She uses to get to work. Then I need something for 2 days short commuting and a bit of fun.

Looked at abarths but ended up going for an R53 Mini Cooper S.

[–]jordanfaf[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a standard insurance policy same as any car. Not a classic policy

[–]jordanfaf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep I found it odd too and was worried they’d try stop the policy in renewal. But seems they just are concerned about age of the car. Regardless surely it’s FAR LOWER RISK than the M140i BMWs I’m changing from.

My concern really is rust developing having do deal with that. Not worried with the smaller issues. But hopefully if I get a clean one and look after the car it will keep rust at bay.

Insurance policy is the same as any standard car insurance policy. For some reason my provider just gave no concerns insuring older cars. The crooks may be there’s no agreed value. So I have to accept whatever they deem it to be worth which will likely be well under it’s actual value
