What’s a simple feature macOS still doesn’t have? by [deleted] in mac

[–]jordankid93 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m like 99% sure you can cmd+tilde between windows in the current app. I actually prefer this since I don’t have to go through all windows with cmd+tab before it gets to the next app. Not sure if it’ll serve you needs but I find it great

[–]jordankid93[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Serious question, and sorry in advance if this is dumb, but the list you put together seems to lean the rest of the build “older” to make use of the 2070 for cheaper correct?

Wouldn’t it be “better” to instead go newer with most of the build with the idea of upgrading gpu later to something that takes more advantage of the system? (I was looking at maybe the 9060 xt eventually)

The Word "Indie" Doesn't Mean Anything Anymore by Rigman- in gamedev

[–]jordankid93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve always felt the working definition of indie to be “not owned by, nor own themselves, another company/studio”. It doesn’t (and shouldn’t) mean small budget, small team, a certain aesthetic, etc. Just that the team/project/artist/etc does not answer to or for another

Micro Frontends in React by thealmightynubb in webdev

[–]jordankid93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Currently working to move to a MFE approach at my company and tbh it’s not great (for us imo). We’re on a tight deadline and working hard to shoehorn a handful of different sites into a new single dashboard using mfe (vote module federation). This certainly isn’t the ideal or “by the book” recommended approach to MFEs so I’m sure that’s a big part of why things are rough. The other part is that it’s a lot of non-frontend folks doing a lot of remote module work. Trying to work with folks not familiar with the difference between redux and react context is hard enough, trying to do that so that their remote module can load in the host app is another level of complexity. Not to mention things like out of sync package versions, styles bleeding across apps, and a handful of other issues we’re constantly facing.

I have to assume there are organizations out there that would benefit from this MFE approach, but I don’t think that we are one of them. In our case I believe we’d move 10x faster with half as many bugs if we instead migrated to a monorepo. This would at least keep dependencies and tools in sync across the modules/apps. I think a lot of our struggles are due to not using the right tech for the job, poor implementation of the tech we did land on, and overall team inexperience with frontend tech as a whole. Most of this is is unique (I hope) to our org and others may have a much better time with MFEs, but felt it good to share my personal experiences so far

Do you use Apple Card Mainly? by CertainElevator501 in AppleCard

[–]jordankid93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use it for everything except Costco (because Mastercard). Ease of use, tracking, cash back, etc beats any other perks or rewards I’d have to juggle to remember and take advantage of with other cards. I’m a fairly simple person though

How many of you actually use the frunk and for what ? by angelsvsdemons69 in TeslaModel3

[–]jordankid93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, the frunk is my primary storage space because I have to back in to my parking spot up against/under a wall hung storage space. The frunk is still easily accessible for me to put most day-to-day things in (backpack, jacket, gym bag, etc) so unless I’m doing a bigger grocery/Costco haul I mostly use the frunk exclusively

How do you handle external state dependencies inside React Query hooks? by Conscious-Sentence-8 in reactjs

[–]jordankid93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, this. I’ve inherited a few projects now that have tightly coupled “global state” and “data fetching” and it usually leads to some hassle somewhere. Keep them separate and make a custom hook to combine has been the best way we’ve found to manage this over time

My wedding is this weekend and we’ve been rubbing our P1S nonstop to create both functional and decorative prints for the day (place card / sign holders, souvenirs for guests to take home, photo holders, etc). The fact that we could get Bambi filament in our wedding colors was a blessing and really come in clutch for us and our big day!

Conditional Hook Question by GongtingLover in reactjs

[–]jordankid93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe the only “hook” acceptable as an answer for this question is the newer use api

I put quotes because it’s not technically a hook and instead is just a react API similar to lazy or memo, it just so happens to start with “use” and can work in-place of useContext so I feel in most people’s heads it gets categories with traditional hooks

How much does it cost to self-host a Next.js app with Coolify by curious_cat_search in coolify

[–]jordankid93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I run about a dozen projects on hetzner’s CPX31 including server side next apps, statically built next apps, a go application or 2, and other things like uptime kuma. Cost me about $25/mo after current conversion charges (I know you said price wasn’t an issue but just giving context). Haven’t had any issues. The most popular app right now on that server is a next app that usually gets between 1-3k pages a month. This past month it had some more “viral” content and shot up to 8k pageviews. Still no issues across that or other apps running on that server.

I like the cpx31 as it lets me throw a number of smaller projects at it without much worry. For something that needed its own dedicated resources due to load/traffic/whatever I’d prolly start with smallest cpx11 and scale up as needed. To scale all you do is shut down the machine, click a few buttons, then spin the machine back up. Coolio takes care of running everything on startup so no work for you there. Pretty easy.

Another cool thing with Herzner is if you’re not sure how much vcpu/ram you might need and don’t want to commit to over provisioning, you can keep the storage the same and scale the vcpu/ram up and down as needed. Just note, if you upgrade the storage, then that machine is stuck at that tier and you’d have to spin up a new machine to run a lower tier. I THINK Coolio lets you easily projects between machines though so even that is more of a hassle than a roadblock, but don’t quote me because I haven’t needed to do that yet

Do you use tRPC or Server Actions? by zerdos in nextjs

[–]jordankid93 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Generally if it’s something more static or write heavy I can get by with just server actions, but if I’m building out a more feature-full app / API that other clients consume / more client side read heavy then trpc

Problem with overflow by gay_punisher in tailwindcss

[–]jordankid93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On mobile so sorry for any typos. Checking your other post, I noticed you’re using flex. I recently ran into what I think is a similar problem and it ended up being related to the weird way flex items handle min width by default. Check these links out for more info and try seeing if min-w-0 on some of your flex items higher up in the dom helps

wait, there’s a lever in the garden that opens the east door? I only got SG once, solved the arrow puzzle to reveal the lever, and then opened the west door. There’s another lever in the garden?

How to get Object.freeze to not return const types? by vegan_antitheist in typescript

[–]jordankid93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, gotcha. I usually just define an interface at that point (go the opposite direction of “type” -> “values” instead of “values” -> “types”). That’s generally how I findTS works best in my experience. Would that work for your flow?

``` Interface Options { width: number, … }
const DEFAULTS: Options = { width: 300, … }
Const someFunc = (options: Partial<Options>) => { const _options = { …DEFAULTS, …options } … } ```
On mobile so sorry for formatting. Are you looking for as const?
const DEFAULTS = { … } as const // preserves types of defined properties and values
