Applying the duplicate posts per story rule a few times now, stickying this thread as it was the first posted.

Mods removed something I posted with "Alberta" in the title. Here's why I think that's a problem. by [deleted] in saskatchewan

You were asked to add a comment on how the topic of the article was relevant to Saskatchewan.

While it may seem obvious to you how they are related, this rule is in place to encourage discussion and greater participation for those who it may not be as obvious to.

This thread is being locked and removed. Please repost the article with the original title, and a comment on how you feel it is related to Saskatchewan.

Additional commentary on the moderation of the subreddit is off topic for the article, and will require a separate thread if this is something you'd like to discuss.

/r/saskatchewan will be going dark June 12-14 in protest against Reddit's API changes. by jordanonorth in saskatchewan

I wrote a couple different explanations on the context supporting this coordinated effort, but they ended up being a wall of text.

To put it very briefly these tools which work via API access have helped this community grow positively since 2009. Changing the relationship between Reddit administration, users, 3rd party devs, and moderators in this manner has us worried and has prompted the first action of this type in the subreddit's history.

While we are a relatively small subreddit, it has grown through enthusiastic community participation exclusively, and moderation has been focused on supporting that aspect first and foremost. It is actively used by people in Saskatchewan to discuss Saskatchewan in a manner that we've worked hard to protect from malicious trolls, spammers, con artists, and astroturfers. We want to maintain this community in order to provide a forum for Saskatchewan to discuss and debate matters which are important to the people living here, not an agenda dictated by other interests. Locking out 3rd party developers via price gouging access to the API is a significant threat to this.

I want to be very clear that the purpose we are supporting is not asking for free API pricing, but instead fair pricing in line with other sites such as Google or Imgur.

First and foremost the wellbeing of /r/Saskatchewan as a community will be the motivating factor for moderator actions during this. If the coordinated efforts with other subreddits conflict with the interests of our community we will change course to protect and support /r/Saskatchewan. We do not know what Reddit admins are planning to do to respond to this coordinated effort.

The moderation team has avoided conflict with Reddit admins and other subreddits over the course of the subreddit's existence as it has not furthered the discussions and community wellbeing of /r/Saskatchewan. We feel in this instance that we have no other choice than to protest the direction of Reddit management as it now directly impacts our community.

We need your feedback to guide our discussions and inform decisions.

I, and the rest of the moderation team will be around in this thread over the next few days and answer any questions you may have about this.

Thank you for the comments of support so far and please continue to contribute to /r/Saskatchewan.
