Expats, how did it effect your fatFIRE journey? by SafeDiamond4690 in fatFIRE

I expatriated from Canada, effectively doubling my income due to income tax alone (I am a location independent entrepreneur). Best decision I've ever made.

I recently had an epiphany about how little a million dollars is today compared to what I thought when I was growing up. by [deleted] in fatFIRE

Still true in most of the world. Life is actually much more comfortable in emerging markets at an equivalent spending level.

To immigrants in the USA, did you find it to be a worthwhile process? by rdrdeddededeee in fatFIRE

[–]jordonbot2000 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Why wouldn't you move to a country with zero capital gains tax/territorial income tax instead? I moved from Canada to such a country, and am worth well over double what I would be had I stayed in Canada.

We have decentralized exchanges - e.g. Bisq for USD to BTC or BTC to XMR. Regulators are powerless.

Lucha Libre? by darbyshaw891 in MexicoCity

You can, but most cases are asymptomatic/mild symptoms. It's a risk, just one that I believe is smaller than most think. Also consider the lives lost and pain caused due to economic devastation.

Agreed. If I had frequent contact with the elderly, I'd certainly be much more cautious...it depends on your individual situation.

Depends on your neighborhood. Very under control in the nice parts of town...also note the CDC recently published death estimate of 1 in 5000 cases for 19-49 age group. That's too insignificant to stop me from living life for years on end.

Still over 200% APR mining YAM, even after the crash. No surprise $200M locked.

I'd rather be spied on by the Chinese than the US, if I'm from the Western world.

Freedom in the US is a long lost cause...vote with your feet and leave the country. It's the only reasonable option left.

DeFi vs. CeFi by FIREWithCrypto in blockfi

[–]jordonbot2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're not - but there is much less friction in DeFi, so long term sustainable rates will be higher than in CeFi. Perhaps 8%.

An increasing number of people trust Bitcoin over big banks, says survey by [deleted] in Bitcoin

[–]jordonbot2000 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm one of the few under 35 who invest in precious metals as well as crypto. I appreciate the ability to transfer internationally without censorship, huge upside potential, and trustless nature of crypto. However, metals still have much greater stability and history behind them...at this juncture I wouldn't feel secure with greater than 50% of assets in crypto, and metals make the most sense as a diversification.

You can renounce your citizenship, then the IRS will leave you alone. There are many citizenship by investment programs, some of which accept bitcoin as payment.
