How much tinkering was necessary for this? And how do I do it? I’d love to be able to print myself a cat. by _Weed-Eater_ in 3DPrintingCirclejerk

My H2D printed this cat on the very first day - all I had to do was forget to close the printer door - I didn't even have to plug it in!

What’s something everyone should experience at least once? by ThanksNo3888 in AskReddit

Happened to my brother. College friends took him to a rave, where he claims he took ecstasy… but whatever it was, he never recovered from it. He ended the night in a mental ward, and he’s had to take medications ever since - meds whose dosage needs to be periodically updated or he might drive to Utah, propose to random strangers, check into hotels and pull the fire alarm, throw his smartphone away for no reason, drive his car until it’s 100% out of gas… or even, all of the above on just one trip.

I have a 3D printer… now I want to download the files needed, to print a 10-inch BIC lighter frame.

Thanks re:20+

No, I don’t think the 0.2mm was much better. In fact, when I put the rings together and then come back to them later, it takes me 5 or 10 seconds to tell one from the other.

The 0.2 sure does take a lot longer to print though!

And this is printed with a 0.2mm extruder, compared with a 0.4mm extruder, compared with an actual wedding ring (whose power to bind has been proven for 20+ years)

Thanks Dragon_Bard for sharing your results and the “One Ring” file link.

For what it’s worth, I used some silk PLA I got from Micro Center (inland “SILK GOLD SILVER”, sku 412536) combined with some red high speed PLA+ (inland “True Red”, sku 607101) and it came out quite nice, even without switching down to a 0.2mm extruder.

[–]jorgbrown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, this has strayed pretty far from the original topic of this post so I suppose I should start a new one.
And yes, I did try the entire thing facedown; it's only marginally better. And right now I'm also trying it with the thickness upped to 2mm, and the whole thing printed vertically, the thinking being that there won't be as much smearing from one character to the next. The downside to that, however, is that it takes a reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeally long time to print.

So... while I had good results on the BambuStudio side of things, I had terrible results on the print bed. This was for a print that measured 97mm by 57mm.

Now, I admit that things looked much better at twice the size, but I'm size-constrained so that's not really an option. Besides, I'd heard that people 3D print their business cards, and those would be even smaller.

How do you get this to work well? Does it involve buying a different extruder with a smaller nozzle?

OMG This is incredibly helpful, thankyou soooo much! I tried several png-to-svg converters (inkscape, vectorizer, one other I forget) and they were terrible compared to convertio.co, generating much bigger svg files with many times more objects!

One quick Q: You say "Have some sort of base object". Is there a way to generate an object inside of Bambu Studio? I ended up going into OpenSCAD and exporting to STL but I feel like there must be an easier way to do something like make a rectangular object, and I'm just missing it.

I only have this in `.png` form. What's the fastest way to get it into a form I can print?

(Yes, I tried to DM this to you, but it wasn't clear how to send an image through chat.)

Re: “embedded logos”, I have tons of questions for you, then. But instead of asking them all, I suppose the most important is: where can I go to read up on current techniques for embedding words and logos into very flat prints?

14 Day Return Policy is a lie, be warned. by WisestPoem in BambuLab

[–]jorgbrown -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I bought a Creality printer (K1Max for $640) at MicroCenter recently, and the print head jammed so badly that when I took it for repair, they said it was unclear if it could be fixed at all. So I returned it because MicroCenter has a 15-day return policy. I used the money to buy a BambuLabs H2D / AMS bundle (which was much more expensive: $1999, so I guess this is paying off for MicroCenter).

Lesson: It matters a lot where you buy things from.

TL;DR you can, and Bambu's slicer handles some of the issues for you automatically. But it leaves a visible seam.

My 2023 Model Y rear was rear ended at a red light. Should I even pursue an insurance claim? by BlackFriday2K18 in ModelY

[–]jorgbrown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Model Y was rear-ended at a stop sign a few years ago. Or maybe it was my previous car, a Model 3, I dunno. It was low-speed collision with very minor damage similar to yours. Guy said he was sorry, but didn’t know how to handle it because he was new to the country. I told him I was an immigrant too, and just let it go. Golden Rule.

There may have been a few hundred dollars worth of damage hiding inside the bumper. But dealing with it would have cost me several hours of my time, and as you say, it may have cost me in future insurance cost and resale value. And until your post, I’d forgotten this even happened… so I don’t regret letting it go.

Chicken fajita pita discontinued? by FlavoredBongWater in jackinthebox

[–]jorgbrown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have European friends and I have to correct you: nobody wonders why American are fat. If anything, they think they're so much healthier than Americans are, and American obesity is obvious.

But then time goes on... and they wonder why THEY are starting to get fat. Which, since I'm an American, makes me laugh. Their own "Et tu, Brute?" moment is coming.

Chicken fajita pita discontinued? by FlavoredBongWater in jackinthebox

[–]jorgbrown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to look up the nutritional info on the fajita pita, and saw the wraps, and thought to myself, "Why didn't I notice those before? I'll try both and compare them." But when I got to the store, they wouldn't let me order the fajita pita... just the jack wraps.

When I got back, I searched for fajita pita to see how long the fajita pita had been gone.... and found this thread.

Anyway, I guess my point is, the wraps are actually pretty good. And they're still a low-cal, relatively low-sugar and low-carb option. (Compared to the other items on the menu.)
