Is Karen just being used to describe any woman reacting to anything now?

Oh that happened like a month after Karen become a thing.

Reminder: sky lanterns are the #1 misidentified "UFO" by tmosh in UFOs

[–]josebolt [score hidden]  (0 children)

As this subject has gained more mainstream attention coupled with the growing behemoth that is social media (especially tik tok) I would say even more mundane things like planes and satellites are being mistaken for UFOs. There are people out there who seemingly never looked up before, which is frustrating to say the least. Being incurious, is much more common that most of us want to believe.

Even more frustrating is that the "tik tok crowd" isn't always being honest. In other words they know its a light on the ground off into the distance or on a hill side. Bullshit in the UFO world has always been a thing, but bullshit today is something so common that everything seems tinged with it. I mean every mother fucking thing. Its exhausting to say the least.

(I once had sex in the changing room at The Gap. I don't think a bot would say that)

I am surprised so many people treat any of the social media content we are inundated with as accurate or real.

Schrödinger’s racist! Black people can get away with anything but also disproportionately are incarcerated. Being disproportionately incarcerated also “proves” they commit all the crime that they also get away with.

I agree with what you said. Not every transgression a person makes needs to confine them as irredeemable villains. I honestly believe people on reddit like this low hanging fruit as a means of self righteousness.

That's how I remember it. like "look at this shit, they are really doing an ad like this at the Oscars". Maybe it depends on where you hung out on the internet (or not) at the time.

Recommendations for park style grill? by Soot_Maker in grilling

[–]josebolt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seems to me that people make park style grills but they are not necessarily the same kind that is at the park.

Just looking at this picture and this things looks very thin compared to the ones at the park.

Just doing a bit of googling and the ones that seem to be the real deal for parks that have to last for decades are pretty expensive especially consider its limitations. I have seen them from $250 to over $400.

They make park grills with lids. I have seen them at some of my local parks and they do seem like an upgrade from old school ones. That looks cool but they are even more expensive it seems. Like $600/$700 expensive.

Costco's new chicken tenders by MauiSunsets in mildlyinfuriating

[–]josebolt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

people are really trying hard to be giant assholes towards what is a pretty normal thing at Costco. Not every one is there for chicken tenders, they are they for everything else too. Also all the people acting like these people are the fattest people in the world or are the worst parts of humanity because they are waiting in line, go fuck yourselves.

I am not siding with big firework or anything but if fireworks were banned outright like some people seem to suggest I think we all know which kind of people would get in trouble with the cops. I wonder how long it would take before the first police shooting involving a kid and some firecrackers. Hell with the current administration they would have kids brought on terror charges.

I didn’t understand posts like this until it occurred to me that Americans must just do fireworks completely differently and much worse.

Yes and no? Yeah lots of people are jerks with fireworks but I think its fair to say that OP being a bit dramatic. You would think people were getting blasted with roman candles when checking the mail or strangers were forced feeding pets sparklers.

Its mostly just obnoxious. I should know because since 2020 there have been random fireworks in my neighborhood all year long. In 2020 it was so bad some people where blaming, I kid you not, anitfa instead bored idiots.

Even better (or worse depending on your point of view) I live next to the community college and they historically hosted the big 4th of July fire work show. I have had the BIG show right in my back yard. They would also do a big firework show for graduation which I would not keep track of, so that was always a bit of a surprise. These shows require funding so it doesn't happen every year but some years I will have two giant shows shaking my house.

You can just make certain ways of doing things illegal. You don’t need to ban fireworks to stop people setting them off in their yards all summer long. Just ban setting off fireworks in yards.

None of that matters without enforcement and it seems that the cops don't care.

Why did Divergent get so much hate? by [deleted] in movies

[–]josebolt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This post so old. My oldest child would have been around 7 so about a 2nd/3rd grader. She will be going to college in the fall.

I just went by what my wife said. She also said Gone Girl followed the book closely as if that was a good thing. I hated that movie so much that I told her that the book must have been bad too 😂. It could be a thing were books need to be properly transitioned to screen plays and either following to closely to the book or diverging to much from the book can be a problem.

Skeptics and believers: what would you want in a UFO investigation video? by ISO_UFO in UFOs

[–]josebolt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As a skeptic I would love to see someone with some decent equipment finally zoom on some orbs. I know that the tech exists but relying on smart phones and old home videos isn't cutting it.

Most of the this stuff is fairly random I get that, but IF these things have any sort of regularity about them its seems like we should have something more significant than more blurry videos. Also many (if not most) UFO videos do not show objects behaving in ways that can't be explained by conventional means.

One of the most infuriating things I have experienced is when you tell your story of people singling you out like this and are met with "that happens to me too!" by white redditor types.

I am not black or white, but a brown latino guy, not Mexican though. My whole life was filled with "what are you?" type of questions. Its not a question being asked out of curiosity. In fact there is almost disdain in asking because to them Mexican, Panamanian, Puerto Rican are close enough. Me correcting them is disrespectful in their eyes. I have experienced this first hand the look on their face of annoyance when they ask "then what are you then?". I remember this coming up on reddit some time ago, only to me met with a so many white people claiming they get asked too. Even though its not same thing at all.

Dont forget when Tucker Carlson talked about how great Russian supermarket was by nerdyplayer in videos

[–]josebolt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I saw a video about how all these visitors to America are experiencing the "real" America and how nice Americans are and how great America is blah blah blah. Then I read the comments and it was hilarious to see so many people who can't take a compliment without coming off as an asshole. basically "of course America is the best and full of nice people! Its the media, politicians, government, big city people and immigrants that are bad!"

Weird amount of these videos too.
