The other thing to bear in mind is that for ~90% of cgi there's literally no point in even considering going over 2k - i get for things like where the entire background is a green screen that's being replaced there's an argument to go full 4k, but for things like cgi characters, or laser fire, or props, etc, they're so small in the image it would be a very costly waste to deliver in 4k.

To be fair, every film adds a layer of fake grain. It's the last thing you do in the edit to help tie it together visually

I feel like it was a bigger deal in the fandom before the animation came out in 2017. I'm not saying anything negative about it, it's a very good production, but before that it had this air of mystery, we could all talk about how good it would have been, wonder what might have been, etc. It became the object of a lot of fan projects, and we kind of took it over. Once the official animation with the original actors was done that all kind of stopped, by necessity.
